I am not sure if we are crazy or not !!! We are thinking about taking our Great Aunt down to Disney ... She is 90 years old and has never been on vacation EVER !!!!!!!!
She is in a wheelchair most of the time (can walk a little with a walker but gets tiered fast.)
She sleeps in a lift chair (she has always slept in a recliner and we are not going to change her now.)
She can only use a bedside commode and wears pullups day/night.

Questions ...
Can we get a lift chair/recliner in our Disney resort room instead of one of the beds ???
Can we get a bedside commode (I can bring the cleaning supplies and pads.)
Where can I find a list of all the rides she can go on while she still in her wheelchair.
Can she stay in her wheelchair while on Disney transportation ???

Thanks !!!!!!

I will answer the transportion question yes she can stay in her wheel chair both on the buses and monorail.

There are some full-service medical equipment companies in the Orlando area which will rent out beds and other items. Most of them are used to dealing with Disney.

Disney would remove one of the beds from the room so a special bed or chair can be put in, and will replace the bed after check-out. Disney does not charge for this service. However, the supplier would charge for the rental and delivery/pickup.

If you go to the locked sticky Everything About WDW Tickets in this Forum, especially Post #2, you can get a lot more information. An easy way to get to the sticky is by clicking on the link in my signature.

the last three years to Disney and at 87 it was her first time at Disney. This is a great place for older, wheelchaired people to go on vacation.

She's in a wheelchair, too and there are more rides than you would realize that are wheelchair friendly. There's a list already established here about rides; so, refer to it on the other post. There are many shows you can go to, as well. There are handicap viewing areas for the parades. My mom has Alzheimer's in the 3rd stage; so, it's not easy but we do shorter days and we are careful to not overdo. We make sure she has a good sun blocking hat, sunglasses, and suntan lotion on all the time. We alternate doing rides which will be hardest with doing shows and eating. We don't mind if she naps in the shows. The idea here is to get in and out of the sun through the day even in the winter season there.

The bedside commode thing can go either way. You may be able to get a free one from Disney, but I think it does depend on which resort. We have had luck at POP Century with getting one. You need to call and talk with special needs at Disney for your reservation on this aspect. Other non-Disney resorts can be a real hit and miss on any extras. You can rent a commode from an outside source, too. You may be able to get one at the same place as the lift chair recliner rental. At the parks you will not have a commode; so, I hope you can manage on that count. There are companion family restrooms which would probably be the best to use at the parks. Both, male and female can be in a family restroom. There are good bars to hold on in these bathrooms and you get a sink. I have used a portable container; so, my mom doesn't even have to sit on the bathroom seat. I know that's a little gross, but it works for us and it's actually safer in my opinion. Then, I dump it into the toilet and clean it for the next use. She won't sit on a public toilet. You can change diapers easier, here, too.

For Disney transportation, they strap the wheelchair securely; so, she can stay in the chair.

I find Disney to be one of her favorite vacations. She likes Dollywood, too. We just returned from Colonial Williamsburg and Busch Gardens in Virginia and I consider the whole set-up there to be very unfriendly to the wheelchair folks. I would give Disney an A- compared to a C- for Virginia.
