9 month old puppy vomiting yellow frothy stuff- going to vet in the am-help?

It's a good thing for all pet owners to learn how to check vitals on a dog, much like you would do on a human. Temperature, hydration level, shock, pulse, all are easy to learn. Then, when you call the vet, you can say, "She has a 102 degree temp, skin's taking three seconds to snap back, gums are pale, and pulse is...". Doesn't make you a vet, but helps you be more aware of your pet.

Could the pup have possibly eaten something that he's trying to get out of his belly by vomiting? One of our dogs is notorious for stealing footie socks and eating them. DD is also a figure skater and this dog has taken her nylon socks out of the pocket of her skating bag and eaten them before.

His first symptom is that he won't eat or if he does eat, he vomits it back up. He's gone for 2 days without eating his dog food, but then I'd give him something from the fridge like a piece of sliced turkey and he'd gobble it down. At first we thought he was just being picky and didn't like his dog food.

What I try to do if I suspect he's eaten another sock is to get him hydrated as much as possible. This helps losen the sock from his belly so he can upchuck it. If he won't drink his water which is usually the case, I put a packet of the powder you put in bottled water to give it some flavor. I've also given him apple juice diluted with water, or soy milk diluted with water. This gets him drinking and sure enough, up comes the footie sock. I'm so worried that one of these days a sock is going to get eaten and not get stuck where he'll need surgery.

I would check with vet bust most likely its just bile. It happens alot when pet is thursty or sometimes when they've just got a little acid in there stomachs

I'd look at the dog's abdomen. If it's soft--not bloated or full feeling--I'd actually pull the water and food until the vomiting stops. Once the vomiting stops, I'd offer a few sips of water as long as no further vomiting occurred. Take its temperature and see what that is. Then, you could try advancing the diet as the dog tolerates. My vet's had me boil chicken to cut into small pieces and mix it with cooked rice, offering the dog a bland diet.

Our dog did this a few times over a couple of years. After one day of her vomitting 8 times in 8 hours, we took her to the ER vet where they kept her overnight. After 3 days of tests at the surgeon's, they decided that she was allergic to beef flavoring. It's been 4 years and we've kept all beef flavored food & treats away from her and she's not had one episode. Your pup could have a food allergy. They're very common among dogs. If it continues over time, I would have your pup checked for allergies.

Update-

Well, we've been to the vet. Happy to report she apparently is suffering from simple upset tummy. Not too happy about the bill- but that's part of pet ownership!

It never fails, in the hour right before the appointment (kids or dogs) they start behaving and acting completely normal and you just know you're going to go for nothing. Except that I would not have been able to look at myself in the mirror if she had been having a life threatening issue. So, all in all, glad we went and glad I can tell DS that Paws will be just fine.

Vet gave her a shot in case she starts to vomit again and gave us an RX to help that as well. She came right in the house and ate and drank just like normal and then looked up at me, while I stood open mouthed, as if to say "What were you thinking? I'm all good."

We were fortunate. Thanks to all who gave advice. I know others have had terrible things happen to their much loved pets and I know how hard that can be- I've lost pets to tragic illness before too.
