9 days of yumminess on the DDP - 8/24-9/2! - Updated 9/26

At lunch time we wound up at Backlot Express. I had planned to get the turkey sandwich here and B was going to get yet another angus bacon burger. But they had apparently just recently changed the menu and added buffalo chicken nuggets to the menu. The people in front of us ordered a buffalo chicken nuggets and a regular chicken nuggets and said they would share them. B decided that sounded like a good idea so we changed our plan and got the nuggets. We didn't really like the adults desserts listed (can't remember what they were now, although I'm thinking strawberry parfait may have been one of them) so we both got the kid's chocolate chip cookies. Backlot Express also has self-serve soda, and we both got Sprite Zero.

The buffalo nuggets looked good. They had an ample amount of the buffalo sauce on them. And then we tried them and neither of us liked them. I can't explain it, but they just had an unpleasant taste to them. There was a CM near by to us who heard us talking and told us that if we really didn't like the buffalo nuggets that we could go up to the counter and exchange them. She took me up there and told the CM at the counter who got us a plain nuggets instead. The CM didn't seem surprised that we were exchanging the buffalo nuggets. She said "Too spicy?" It wasn't the spiciness, I mean they were spicy, but we both like spicy. We just didn't like the taste. But I'm guessing they must have had some people who were unhappy with the spiciness of them.

Rating this meal, if I was rating based on the buffalo nuggets, we'd probably give it a C+. But considering that we actually ate the regular nuggets and that the CMs were extremely nice and let us exchange the buffalo nuggets, we'd give the meal an A.

After lunch we went back to Epcot, specifically to go to Japan because there was a Pokemon book in the Japan store that B wanted to get. In one of the carts outside the store we got marble soda. I’ve always wanted to try this, but just never had before. It was great, you push the marble through the neck of the bottle and it creates the carbonation. We got the strawberry flavor and it was really tasty. They had multiple flavors and I would definitely try some of the other ones on our next trip. For some reason though I didn’t take a picture, shame on me, but I think this is pretty close to what we got.

For dinner, we had an ADR at T-Rex Cafe. We’ve eaten there a few times before and B always enjoys it. However, I think I had miscalculated the number of TS credits, and we had already used all of them. We did still have QS credits left though. B wanted to go to Disney Quest one more time and I suggested we skip T-Rex and eat at Food Quest there and he was fine with that. We also didn’t have to rush this way from Epcot and could take our time getting to Downtown Disney. I would have preferred the food at T-Rex, but this worked out better. Honestly I was just happy to get a chance to sit for awhile in Disney Quest since my feet were in agony by this point (I have bad Achilles tendonitis and plantar fascitis and by this point of the trip, it was getting really, really bad). I had also started to get a cough and wasn’t at my best.

B got pepperoni pizza and I ordered chicken nuggets with fries. When we sat down I remembered that I had had nuggets earlier in the same day. That’s how out of it I was by this point with not feeling that great, that I didn’t even remember that. But the nuggets were still good, uninspiring, but good. For dessert, B got the chocolate peanut butter cupcake and I got the M&M brownie. B ate all his pizza but I don’t think touched the cupcake, saying he was full. I ate some of the M&M brownie, and it was pretty good. Overall, we gave this an B+.

After we left Disney Quest we stopped in Candy Cauldron to use up our last snack credits. We got a Mickey crispy chocolate bar and some Halloween themed Mad Treats sour balls. I don’t seem to have a picture of the sour balls, but here’s the Mickey chocolate in all it’s glory. It was tasty. B gave it an A. :) The sour balls were opened on the plane and B ate a few and I think the rest actually got thrown out at some point after we got home.

And on our way back to the bus stop, we passed the Lobster roll truck. We had seen this initially when we first came to WDW the Saturday before. Apparently, the truck is only there Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It’s called Clawdaddy’s and it served two kinds of lobster rolls, a crab roll and a shrimp roll. I really would have loved to have tried one of these, but it was one of those things we weren’t able to fit in. I’m not sure how long the truck has been there, before we left for WDW I hadn’t seen mention of it on the boards, but it looked like they were serving up some yummy lobster goodness.

How interesting! I will have to look that up. I've always wanted to try a lobster roll

It's at the end of the West Side, near where you'd cross over from Pleasure Island or where you'd go to the buses. I really would have liked to have tried one, if it's still there next time maybe. :)

I think I mentioned in the previous breakfast post, that B had seen someone sitting a table next to us the previous day having gelato for breakfast. He couldn't get enough of the idea of gelato as a breakfast food and went a daylong campaign for us to have gelato the next morning for our farewell meal. I told him absolutely not. The next morning after we very sadly vacated our room and before we needed to get the Magical Express back to the airport, we went to Cafe Rix and B grabbed some cereal and orange juice. And then I told him we needed to pick out or gelato and he went nuts. He couldn't believe I'd actually agreed to it. I got a small chocolate and he got lemon. It was pretty tasty, but very pricey for the small serving. I think the guy we'd seen the day before had gotten the large serving, so I'm kind of glad we did have the cereal since neither of was filled up by the gelato. We'd give the meal an A for taste, but a B for cost and for sadness at it being our last meal in WDW.

And that's it. We had 9 days of yumminess as the title of his trip report says. I'd say the best meal for me was at the Plaza restaurant, with Cape May Cafe also being a real standout. B would give the highest marks to 50s Prime Time, but I think would also put Cape May in second. There were no really bad meals. The food at Chef Mickey's was only fair, but we go for the character interaction, not the food. We both disliked the buffalo chicken nuggets at Backlot Express, but then had that nice surprise of the CM getting us a free replacement meal. Our Fantasmic dining package at Hollywood & Vine was a great surprise, with us both really enjoying the food. Landscape of Flavors at the Art of Animation was also a wonderful surprise and our visit there really did make us want to stay there next year. All in, lots of good food and I miss it a lot!!

Thanks for reading! :goodvibes

Thank you for your report. I am going in Dec and I enjoy many of the restaurants you do. Your son seems very fun to travel with. Nice that he is a Disney adult now. I enjoyed reading.

Thanks! And B really is a great traveller, and has drunk the Disney kool-aid and is as much a Disney lover now as me. :rotfl:
