Thank y'all so much for all the prayers.
Here's a little bit of an update am leaving for Austin in a few moments and will know more tonight.

The person that hit him ran a stoplight going 60 mph......

He was knocked out and was careflighted to the hospital -- my 6yr niece is the one that gave the emergency workers everyone's name and phone numbers!!!! The 6yr & the infant are fine and just had to ride in the ambulance to the hospital. :-)

They woke him up late last night but, he is still *out of it*. My dad said he seemed responsive to questions.

The surgery was 3hrs -- his stomach was pushed up into his chest cavity and collapsed a lung. Both hips are broken.

My BIL said his wife is hysterical. My sister finally got into town around midnight or so --- the reason her 6yr old wasn't in the back on the driver's side is that is where she put her luggage. Thank GOD. Otherwise she may have been killed.

Thanks for the update. No one realizes we are only on earth by God's will. I believe it was fate that she was not seating in the other seat. It is a shame there are so many idiots on the road. I just get so angry at people driving so wreckless and with no regard to others. The bad thing is they put everyone at jeopardy not just themselves. I guess I will get off my soap box.
Keep us posted.

I just read that the new ship would never go aroung the tip of S. America as the water are too rough. Again, does Dinseny know what Disney is doing???:rotfl2:

If they put a new ship on the West coast is will HAVE to go around the tip, as it will not fit through the canal. It's got to go around one of the tips, either S. America or S. Africa.

Steph, I hope all is well with your family! Adding my prayers for their speedy recovery!

For the cruise ships, the current spec's have them at 120,000 tons. The Radiance class at RCI (which is currently the largest set of ships going through the canal) is about 98,000 tons. So the two new ships if stated as plan will be too big to go through the canal. They will have the same style/coloring as the Magic and Wonder, only taller, longer, and wider.

New Orleans, was HOT and HUMID!!! Stinky and dirty! I loved ever minute of it. All that being said, OMG! The north part of the city looked like a bomb had hit it. When we crossed the river and started see all the homes and buildings that looked like they had been bombed. We got off I-10 and took pictures. I'll have them up soon for yall.

I just got back a little bit ago.....

He's *ok*. It turned out the guy ran a red light at 65 mph and had to go around 2 STOPPED cars to go through the light!!!! The police said that the car slid for 28 yards. The guy that hit him said he couldn't tell the light was red because it was windy......... IDIOT!!!!!!! They used the *jaws of life* to get my nephew out of the car and then he was airlifted to the hospital -- we were teasing him today that we knew he was knocked out otherwise he would never have let them put him on the helicopter. :-) He won't even ride a small roller coaster at Six Flags. :-)

He had to have surgery to repair his spleen & and his diaphram. His stomach was pushed into his chest causing that damage and his lung to collapse. He has a chest tube.
He is on a morphine drip.

I saw him today (in Austin) and I called my sister a few moments ago to let her know we are home and she said the Dr told her they think he still has some internal bleeding. He is also running a slight fever. He doesn't open his eyes and he speaks so quiet that you have to get really close to him to hear.

The first thing he asked was *Was it my fault?* and *Can I see the girls?* He wanted to make sure that they were really ok. :-) He wouldn't take our word for it , we had to lift the girls up so that he could see them -- he could barely open his eyes and he couldn't move his head at all.
And then he asked me *Where's Uncle Jon?* :-) In our family it's like a standing joke that all the kids get excited about coming to see *Uncle Jon*. :-) And I just happen to live here. :-)

We are very close to my nieces & nephews. Until this one (he's the oldest) was 9 they lived in the same city as us (and for several years I babysit them every day when my sister worked). After they moved away (3 - 4 hrs south) they stayed with us for weeks at a time during the summer and most school holidays. :-) Our children are very close.

Jon and I are going down there in the morning.
Stephanie

My nephew and his wife (with the baby) are on the far right --- they look like babies!!! They are almost 22 -- this April. My nephew was soooo small until he turned 18! LOL! Then he grew over 6 inches in a few months and is now over 6'. :thumbsup2 His wife is a tiny girl! The small, blond girl with the flower on her white shirt is the 6yr old that was able to tell the police the names and numbers to call.

Steph, he looks LOT like your oldest son.

You are all in my thoughts!

Steph- I hope everything goes well.

A girl I work with was riding with a drunk driver and not wearing her seat belt. The guy driving lost control and slammed into a tree throwing her throw the windsheild. The two guys had no problems but she had intenal bleeding, swelling in the brain, collapsed lung, crushed leg and seveal other things but survived. It has been 3 weeks and she had to stay at the hopital 3 more weeks, then has to stay off her left leg for at least 4 weeks. SHe is only 17. We hope she learned a lesson.

Oh and there baby is ADORABLE!!!

I look foward to the photos. I lived in NO from 2nd grade through 6th. I lived in the Algiers area........ off of General Meyer Ave. :)

I hoped she learned her lesson, also! That is such a shame.

Baby Bethany is a cutie, isn't she? ;)

They were so excited to be coming up here next weekend to visit us. We couldn't wait to get our hands on that little girl, again! The first pic was taken last month in front of my sister's house & the second one was taken back in... Nov (I know it was before my drapes were installed ;) ).

I'll try to get them posted tomorrow. We got "lost" in Algiers. Well not really lost, we just couldn't figure out how to get back on I-10. We tried to get on it from Downtown NO, but due to some marathon(sp) all the roads were closed. So we crossed the Mississippi and couldn't figure out how to get back across.

I have been trying to figure out how to describe things and the best thing I can come up with is this. The scene in Independance Day when the Nucler bomb is dropped on Houston, it shows the city afterwards with the bent street lights and buildings with nothing, but their inner beans showing? That is what the Algiers area looked like, but was in the process of rebuilding.

I was babysitting DGD Saturday night and most of the day Sunday. I did not look at the boards til this morning.

What a nice looking couple and a beautiful Baby. Just makes me more angry that such stupid people our on the roads. Ther news sounds encouraging but keep us posted. Who is the little girl above Claire. I think they look soooo much alike?

Our thoughts and prayers will still be with your nephew.

Rumor has it that the two older ships might just stay on the West Coast. But who knows what Disney has in their minds.:confused3 I would think the west coast people would be upset. I would think one of the destinations would be Alaska and the two old ships are not made for the weather there. Just all speculation on everyones' part. I found the size interesting. I know I will have to be on one of those ships someday, even if I have to rolled on.

Glad you had a great time in New Orleans. I can't wait to see the pictures!!
Was the same smell on Bourban Street???:rolleyes1

Like I said, the pictures don't do it justice at all. It's just sad really!

Oh the Disney ships are by far the prettiest ships out there. I've yet to be on one that appeals to me, more than the Wonder or the Magic. The NCL's Dawn would have to fall 3rd.

Algiers has always looked pretty ...hhmm...bad. ;) I wouldn't want to get lost there! LOL!

My dad wasn't stationed at the base in Algiers (he was stationed in Belle Chase) but, we lived in military housing off of General Meyers Ave.

Here is the church I went to (there used to be a school attached and I went to 5th & 6th grade there) we walked to church & school. The next link has a map and I lived on Southlawn Blvd.

My neice. She is a yr older then Elvis. :) The Blond teenage girl is my brother's dd and the 2 younger girls & my nephew are 3 of my sister's children (she has an older dd - 21 in April & a ds that will be 18 in 3 weeks).
We were down there having a late Christmas. :)

Katherine and my nephew were very close growing up.

Dh just left for Austin (3 - 4 hr drive) to vist my nephew for an hour or so.
I think Katherine is going down today, also. I think we are in the doghouse with her right now (wedding stuff) so, she didn't reply to her dad's email about riding down with him. Oh, well.
