Anyone figured out another way to see the necropolis (St Paul's/Vatican)?

We are taking the train to the Vatican and doing the museums on our own. You should be able to do this too, and buy tickets to the necropolis online. here's the vatican website:http://mv.vatican.va/3_EN/pages/MV_Home.html.

I just want to make sure that everyone knows that this is not a guided tour. The English speaking driver will take us around the sights, but there will no formal guide. Our previous driver from the last trip was very informative and answered all our questions.

Hi We are just joining the cruise for our 20th anniversary--leaving the kids behind this time and looking to join up with some people on some private excursions. We're pretty adventurous and thought it would be great to share in some of the cost to get in and do stuff. DOes anyone have any private tours with space?? If so, where? Or if your looking to set something up we'll be p osting our ideas. My husband lived in Malta for a semester so we're looking to rent a vehicle and go see the highlights there on our own. We'd like to share a private tour guide in Rome if anyone is interested. ANyway..this is our first time cruising and any ideas,openings,encouragement would be welcome!

I am booked on the Sept. 8, Mediterrean and September 18, Transatlantic. Looking forward to 24 days of disney magic.
I've got a Cat 5 for the Transatlantic and Cat 9 for Med. I'm not sure what my room numbers are.
It's my second/third disney cruise. I discovered the disboards three days before I left on my first disney cruise (Baltic - June 24th).
I'm traveling solo, and can't wait to meet other disboard members.

PPS I wanted to tour the necropolis/St Paul's/Vatican but Disney Port Adventures said no one had booked the tour so I would have to buy the tour out. Anyone figured out another way to see the necropolis (St Paul's/Vatican)?

Doing Rome on our own as well (much cheaper than through Disney).

Didn't we met at Naples with the Cpt? If so, I consider myself borderline OC, OK so borderline LA too - what can I say? I have a hard time committing.

DH has an aunt & uncle that live in Whittier that we visit often.

Just an FYI, did a private tour in 2007. Disney did the some of the same tour. But you will not regret going on your own. I spent 3 1/2 glorious hours in Pompeii, then climbed Mt Vesuvius and in the afternoon went to Herculeam. It was definitely a tiring day but so worth it. Naples and Herculeum are not the best places to be walking around with by yourself but should be somewhat safe during the day. When we got back to the ship, some of my other DIS friends said that they were supposed to have 1 hr in Pompeii but ended up having only 45 min there. They were a bit disappointed.

The price seems better than thru Disney, and I like the idea of doing that area at our own pace, I think DH and DS5 do too! Thanks for the info. Can't PM yet, still pretty new on the boards, but I really appreciate your input!

ATTN: As we are latecomers, anyone have any room for 3 people on any of your private tours? I am just coming into this way too late. I have some contacts but if anyone is looking for spots to fill, please let me know. Also, I know that with this being the last Med, I'm sure there will be taxi's available but if there is a chance that someone needs bodies to fill up space, I'm your body. LOL - Thanks.

I understand! So we could contact them and arrange for a van and driver and we could possibly do the same route as you. That would be fun. I was looking at the Malta website yesterday. What a beautiful island! Then I went to Google Earth and put up the option of photo's and it was amazing!
