hi everyone,
we're flying with DD (8 months) this month. do you have any tips for keeping her occupied in the airport while we wait? also, we bought her a seat and she'll be in her car seat, but she gets very antsy in it and probably won't nap since the plane doesn't feel like it's moving like a car. so...do you have any tips for keeping her occupied on the plane? thank you!

Baby Einstein makes a great toy that clips onto car seats….if this is something she does not have yet, you could get it and show it to her for the first time on the plane it will be something new and should keep her attention for a while.
Also speak to your pediatrician about Benadryl. A small dose of Benadryl will make the plane ride much easier for you and your daughter.
Also make sure that you bring plenty of pacifiers. Sucking on them will protect her ears from popping

My daughter hated her infant carseat (a Graco Snugride) and never slept in it in the car, she'd just scream from the moment she was put in it till we took her out, but she fell asleep on almost every flight in it during takeoff and stayed asleep for a good part of every flight. Not sure what the difference was, but maybe you'll have that luck too since takeoff has some pretty decent noise and motion so it might lull your baby to sleep.

Other than that, what amused my daughter the most and kept her very happy on flights at that age was to unbuckle her in her seat (when the seatbelt light went off that is) and let her climb around in the seat (while it was still buckled in of course). She just loved the freedom and it kept her contained to a small area and we never heard a peep out of her aside from laughter. We always brought a huge toy supply but she never had any interest in them on the plane, but she did love to play with the snack packs we'd get and other stupid things like that.

I will be flying with my nieces (3 yr old and 7 mth old) in November. The 3 yr old flew to the Bahamas w/ mom & dad when she was 8 mths & was an angel.

Give your self extra time to get the the airport... I hate rushing & I tend to get stressed when i see long security lines. Definately bring a couple "new & interesting" toys, but don't go overboard. And sometime the simply things amuse kids... ie. your Car keys! Don't forget the pacifier or bottle to keep the ears from hurting during take off and landing.

And if for some reason you can't content the baby... DON'T let fellow passengers stress you out. You paid for your seats also! Any parent on the flight should be able to sympathize with you. And if anything else, people that are ignorant about you having a fussy child on an airplane, should have considered 1st Class or a "private charter flight".
