I want to add some strength training to my workout, but I have been unsure of what to do. On the WW boards, several people mentioned a book called "8 minutes in the morning"

Has anybody tried this program? Did you like it? did you see results?

Does anybody else have any strength training tips for me?

I've never heard of the book but the title is intriguing!! I'd be interested to know more!

Yes, it definately sounds interesting. 8 minutes in the morning sounds so do-able.

I haven't heard about this but I do know that the additional weight training works. I've been doing tummy exercise about 7 or 8 different exercises from Shape magazine(great magazine). I've noticed a huge difference in my pants and shirts. I haven't lost any weight but I've been able to fit into my suede skirt that made my tummy roll over the top in the past. My problem area is my stomach so that's where I do my weight/muscle training. Been doing some weight work for my arms too but haven't seen much of a difference-they aren't flabby like my tummy.

Hope this helps. I usually do my tummy exercise while watching tV. Keeps me from putting food in my mouth.

I saw this book/program mentioned in the Dateline NBC special and was intrigued. I also found Jorge Cruise's website, which I haven't checked out yet, but thought I would post in case someone was interested. https://www.jorgecruise.com

Since this originally posted has anyone bought the book and have any comments?

I bought this book last year and couldn't do it. Not because there is anything wrong with it, but I have to leave for work at about 5:45 a.m. every morning (and get two kids out the door with me). I really just could not spare the 8 minutes if you can believe it! I think it is good in theory--doing something specifically in the morning to jump start your metabolism. Jorge Cruise also has some specific dietary guidance in his book, meaning that this 8 minutes won't work without dieting. I don't think it's a bad program. If anyone has any specific questions about the book, let me know. I'm here at work and the book is on my desk.

I still haven't made it to the book store to look at it. It does sound interesting and very doable. I think I'll have to tell DH that we need to make a trip to Greensboro tonight.

This sounds very interesting. I think I need to order this book and see what it's all about. I can spare 8 minutes in the morning :)

I was thinking about picking this book up but I know I won't follow his diet (I do WW) but I imagine the 8 minutes would still be a good thing to add to my daily routine. What do you think?

cinmell,
Definitely, the 8 minutes of strength training every morning would be great. I only wish I had the time to fit it in!! And, I don't think HIS diet is required. Just some sort of healthy eating plan combined with the exercises is supposed to work.

I got the book and am on day 4. I do not plan on following his diet, we are doing the SBD.

Anyhow, the book is very "peppy." I find the little pep-talks to be very annoying, but some folks probably really need that kind of encouragement.

The exercises are simple to follow. I was very sore yesterday afternoon. I suppose I do not use those muscles very much! Not sore today, though.

What kind of exercises are in the book? Are they exercises with free weights, floor exercises or something else?

Some exercises use dumbbells, some are floor work (push ups, leg lifts, squats) and I believe some are done on a chair.

Just wanted an update from anyone following the 8 mins a morning. I am starting Week two today. I followed the eating plan (along with counting my WW pts) last week everday but Saturday. I'm following both plans again starting today. I didn't record Sunday but I had a bag of smart-pop popcorn and I think it would counted for more treats than I was allowed. oh well

My gluts were feeling it some last week. I hope to continue the trend!!

I must admit I'm not reading the inspirational parts like I could be. I'm not much on fluff, but I probably could be inspired!
