Artist point dinner-
OOP
For this dinner we were meeting my DSIL & DBIL who live in Orlando.
I thought AP might be a little too "signature" for the boys but the staff was very friendly w/ them & they loved coloring their artwork & seeing it displayed. they gave both the boys artist certificates & stickers which they loved.
For apps. we shared the Venison spring rolls & the salad.
I thought the spring rolls were very blah... not much flavor.
The salad sounded really good, but it was basically field greens w/ a little vinaigrette. (RaglanRoads was much better)
My DH ordered the Salmon, which they are known for, he liked it, but did not rave about it. I tried it & thought it was OK, nothing special.
I had the pork chop on macaroni & cheese. The pork chop was good, a little dry, I ordered it med-well, maybe med would have been better.
I was a little disappointed in the mac. & cheese.
It was a small penne pasta & the sauce was a little thin, I think they should have used a rotini or cavatappi & a thicker sauce, just MHO!
The boys had pasta off the children's menu, it was good.
For dessert my DH & I shared the cobbler, again I was not impressed, my grandma made a really wonderful blackberry cobbler that blew this away & it is their signature desert
Overall I was a little disappointed in AP.
My DH & I eat in upscale restaurants at home when we go out (which is maybe only once a month if that) & living in N.Y. maybe I have high expectations. I am really rating restaurants on what they are supposed to be, Ohana surpassed my expectations as did RR, AP didn't, not that it was terrible, just not as good as I thought it would be.
Sci Fi Drive In lunch-
If you really enjoy grease, this is your place.
I had a cheeseburger & it was all I could taste was a dirty grill
My kids both got pizza & it tasted raw I gave them some fries & part of my burger, which my 6 year old thought tasted gross, & he eats any burger.
My Dh had the onion rings & burger, he ate it but after said he felt sick, & he never complains.
The atmosphere was cute, but definitely not worth the food torture!
My DH had a milkshake that I tasted & that was good!
Thought I should say something positive.
Chef Mickeys dinner-
We had been to CM for breakfast & loved it so we thought lets try dinner, breakfast is so much better!!
The wait was really long to be seated, maybe 45 mins. after being on time for our res. I asked a CM if it was OK if I got the baby a roll because he was starving & had gone through all his cheerios on the boat ride over. They said of course, though I kind of felt silly, going up & taking a roll before we were seated! But it helped to keep him happy while we waited more.
The characters were great, the food was edible, I had some mashed potatoes & prime rib, & salad, nothing special, just OK if your really hungry.
The kids choices were lacking, mac & cheese, pizza & what was supposed to be corn but looked like a bowl of dishwater w/ a few pieces of corn floating in it.
The deserts were the highlight w/ make your own Sunday's & those little pastries.
Dinner seemed much more chaotic & was a lot less tasty than breakfast!
Coral Reef dinner-
I was really curious about CR since I had never been & it sounded really interesting.
My kids loved the tank, the divers & the sharks were their favorite, it really captivated them, we were sitting on the second tier & had a great view.
We got the kids the capt. hook glow lights for their drinks, but I didn't realize it was diet lemonade, I don't like them to have artificial sweeteners, plus they said it tasted gross so we got them chocolate milk too.
My DH & I had a glass of Merlot.
I ordered the seafood bisque, which tasted very creamy, almost & I can't believe I am saying this too creamy..it tasted like heavy cream which overpowered any seafood flavor.
My Dh had the cod cake which I thought was pretty good..very light tasting after the soup, which he finished.
We both got the Mahi, which was very good, nice & light tasting.
We of course had to order desert, being on the Disney Dining Pig...uh Plan!
We ordered the chocolate wave & the brulee, I know I might get in trouble for this, but the chocolate wave didn't knock my socks off, maybe the disboards built it up too much or maybe some ice cream instead of those cherries would have made it better, but I have had better choc. molten cakes. I love choc & creme brulee, I thought both were good not great.
We were anxious to get going since the baby had fallen asleep in his stroller & the table behind us had a newborn which they let scream through our desert, I don't understand why no one got up they just kept passing the baby around...it bothered me & I have kids, I can't imagine how annoyed I would be if I didn't!
My kids had more pizza, again not too good but they ate a little. They both got fruit for desert, since they hardly ate their dinner, mean mommy that I am!
CR has great atmosphere, especially w/ kids, good not great food.
Counter service coming soon....
