You really enjoyed ruining my morning didn't you??
:sad2:

HAPPY TOPIC #1 - First trip to WDW.

I was an abused child, my parents didn't take me until I was almost 13. With the age gaps in my family, my mom wanted to wait until we were all old enough to remember. We finally went when my youngest brother was almost 3 (come to think of it, mom was no dummy, DB was still free!). We stayed off site at the "Wilson World" hotel. Yup, we called it WallyWorld. We were there the week it opened.

My most vivid memory is the video tapes of that trip. It was 1985, so you can imagine what the ol' video camera looked like. It was a huge camera with wires that connected to a full-size VCR that my dad had to carry in a bag over his shoulder! The whole contraption probably weighed 30 lbs.

My dad walked behind us for a week filming our reactions to various thing throughout MK and EPCOT. Those tapes are now commonly referred to as "Smith Family Butts on Vacation" (not Smith, but you get the idea)
:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

LOL......... I have alot of those pictures of my family !!!

Can always tell who is behind the group with the camera !!!

My mom's husband was admitted to the hospital Monday for some prostate problems. They did surgery on him today and my mom just called to say that he is currently on a ventilator. They have called in a pulmonary specialist and she is waiting for some news. Please say a few prayers for them.

Prayers and pixiedust: for you and your family

Just popping in to say Hi....:wave2:

I'm gonna read back a few pages and see where the current conversation is going.

Ok, actually we got in Feb 13, but I have been busy at work and haven't had time to post. We were a little late to the game, hadn't realized this was coming out (or that it would sell out so quickly) so we started trying Feb 1 and got a place two weeks later, thanks in large part to the efforts of Bob at Dreams Unlimited (thanks for hanging in there for us!) Cruisers will be me, dh, dd (then 12) and ds (then 10). I will never be able to read back through all the prior posts (or keep up with them at the rate they are coming!) but wanted to say we feel very fortunate to have gotten a space onboard and are looking forward to the trip of a lifetime!

:welcome: :welcome:

Okay, here goes...

I was so wrapped up in reading this morning that I am going to be late for a very important meeting (I have 15 minutes to get there through the snow!)

Then, I jumped up, got dressed and almost went out the door without my BRA! :scared1:

Okay, GTG, be back later!

PS, thanks for the quick welcomes! I really appreciate it!

Poohmom :hippie:

Oh yeah, you're gonna fit RIGHT IN !!!

:welcome: :welcome: :welcome:

I still laugh my a** off when I think about it. And yes, DB and I are truly certifiably sick!!!!! So nice to know that we have good company, isn't it?:rotfl2:

I pictured my mom opening that drawer....and every time I do, I laugh even more. Darn, I really wish we'd thought of that. We were/are a family of pranksters. Got it from my dad, which is why my poor mom was usually the target.

Roger, I love those! We DO have some pics of DH's first trip to Disneyland....probably in 1960? I'll have to see if I can find them. That's when the women still wore dresses to go there for the day.

Lisa, the pictures of your first visit with the kids, and the first cruise, are precious. But why was DD wearing a knit cap at CC??

You know, I loved the Submarines. Icky smell and all.

I can't wait to see the new Nemo ride there. Unfortunately, it won't be open when we go in a few weeks. :sad1: Maybe we'll get lucky, and get to do one of those .....arrgh, what's the word?.....one of the times they let people ride before they open it???

I'm also hoping to run into the Dream Team and get one of the Magical Fast Passes. :thumbsup2

Now here is something I've never heard of before that sounds... curious...

LIFEGEM will harvest the carbon from your loved one and convert it into a diamond for $13,000-20,000 for a 1 carate stone. Price varies with color - where blue is the most expensive and yellow the least expensive. OR... for the budget concious they have the "Family plan" where you can get 4 0.10 caret yellow stones made for $1299 each... including ring settings

I don't know about having this done for me or my spouse. It's gonna take some serious reflection on our parts here....

My reluctance over this process was highlighted last Christmas...grandma died the day after Christmas :sad1: Now she was a great lady but she had a host of health issues (hypertension, diabetes, mobility issues, stroke, heart murmurs, the works). She didn't have a lot but that didn't stop my 10 (remaining) aunts and uncles from acting like addes!!!! One particular aunt/uncle pair were like a Dachshund & badger! Nothing like the death of a matriarch to bring out the absolute worst in people!

So now instead of arguing over who gets to wear grandma's jewelry, future generations of brats can argue over who gets to wear grandma!

Well, off to school. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Good Luck!!:thumbsup2 Hope all goes the way you want it to go. The principal could not wait til my children were out of his school. The principal would see me coming and run the other way.:scared1: When I truly believe in something I will argue the point and never let go. I either would make a great lawyer or pitbull.

That is so true!!!! It is amzing how many relatives come out of hiding and circle like vulgers.:sad1:

Can't tell you exact date but somewhere around the opening in 1955. I am the short one, my brother is the tall one in Adventureland.

Here is another one of the Captain Hooks pirate ship in Fantasyland. Wish that it was still there. They had a Chicken of the Sea restaurant inside that had the best tuna sandwiches.

And another one when I was about 7-8 with Mickey and Minnie.

Those are GREAT pictures!! :thumbsup2

Look how skinny Mickey and Minnie were!
Do you think it's a sign of the times that they are "chubbier" nowadays?!?! (Or maybe it's just so their heads are more proportionate to their bodies! :lmao: )

ITA with you on that. I can't believe how petty and greedy people can get. My grandma who passed away last year didn't have much in this world except her family and a WHOLE LOT of love that she gave us. So really all she left behind was her legacy. I can't imagine having to "fight" with family members over who's entitled to the valuables!! :sad2:

LOL...
I was wondering how I was able to get caught up all of a sudden!! :rotfl:
It's the "midwest lunch-time anti-rush"!! :lmao:

I guess eveyone else went OUT to lunch, eh?
