Hi geffric!!! Actually, not ALL conferences offer the cheap tickets - it is up to each conference if they want to offer that perk (I assume they have to pay WDW something in order to make them available...) However, since all 3 of us have our annual passes we bought in January, it doesn't really matter. That is part of what is so cool about this - extra days at WDW without much extra cost at all. DS & I usually split a counter service meal (he will be 8 in June - but he is skinny as a rail and doesn't really eat that much) so even the food costs for just the two of us won't be that bad.

We thought about going during Spring Break last year, but since the entire Chicago area seems to all have that last week of March for spring break- getting a reasonably priced flight was impossible! I'm just too cheap to pay more than double what we usually pay just to go that week.

Once the weather gets better, we need to plan a Chicago area meet. I've only seen a few of us here, but maybe if we plan something we'll flush out a lurker or two!

pdarrah (Pamela)

I know that feeling. We were thinking of flying down to ATL to see the in-laws over Spring Break but even though I have enough miles for two free flights on AA, it would still be almost $1000 for the other three. So we might drive down now.

Hope the weather is okay for y'all tonight. We've had freezing drizzle most of the day and pretty heavy snow a while ago.

And I forgot the most important thing Mickey and Minnie on the bridge as we went out I could film them on my camcorder from my stateroom.

Okay, I tried to find my ::MickeyMo & ::MinnieMo picture from the bridge but did find Roy Disney & his wife (a little trivia: they filed for divorce last month). My first attempt at a picture so we'll see if this works:
If this works I can work on getting some images in my signature finally!

We're invited to the neighbors for some board games so I'll be missing another lovely night of chat. Before I go...I thought I'd leave you with a little pirate joke:

This reminds me that on the '05 repo we had a game afternoon in Diversions. 30 or so people came and played everything from Rummikub to Trivial Pursuit.

Michelle

You are MUCH, much, much braver than me! I just got new PCs at our office and I deliberately bought them with xp Pro and the "free" Vista upgrade. I'm ordering the upgrade CDs, but I'm not brave enough to install it yet!

pdarrah (Pamela)

We've been running it for awhile now. (We have to due to SWMBO's job.) No major issues yet on either PC we have it on -- just a few incompatible programs, mostly because I'm too cheap to have upgraded them in many years.

If you are in or near Chicago area, we have meets every few months.. also I have done a few meet at WDW with other DISers that were there at the same time..

I would love to hear about some of the things you've done, or is there a thread I can check for some ideas?

Mickey&Co

We don't fly but drive and the road to WDW is packed with cars escaping the Chicago area and driving south..

Good idea on the Chi meet..

The only issue with a Chicagoland meet is I haven't told my kids about the cruise yet and don't know when I will.

and I an sure that you have lots of gigs of memeory and a fast processor too..

We have been doing the drive from Michigan to Orlando or Ft. Myers at least once a year for over 15 years now. The kids are great. They are better since the invention if Ipods and handheld games, and video but we drive straight thru with a stop for dinner and breakfast and then potty stops only if we need gas. 20 plus hours. 23 to Ft. Myers.

I want to drive to ATL in March but I am not sure about my car. My 1999 Honda POS has 150K on it and I know it needs transmission work. We are looking to buy a new car but don't know if we will have it by then.

The Chicago thread is at http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=867854 we ususally meet for pizza at Gino's or ice cream at Carver's.. they are talking about a bowling meet next.. we did a Wicked meet too.

At WDW , we found out all of the DISers that were there at the same time and we all meet at MK by the ice cream place to chat..

Not really. The computer I am working on has 1GB of memory. It's a 3.2GHz Pentium 4, about three years old.

Here is a picture of our train:

Great job! I'm not showing this pic to DH - he'd expect to do as good.

Hey Mary let's hire Cleaning Ladies YAY!.............no, but wait, then I couldn't afford the Trip of A Lifetime.................back to cleaning the turlets :rotfl:

OK...this is what I will keep repeating while cleaning up after the bathroom bat here. ;)

No you didn't. We live close to the Chief's and Royal's Stadium. We are in Overland Park alot. I think it would be really neat to meet some folks before the cruise. Well, I have a migrain and got to hit the bed. Till later. Lois

Night Lois - hope you're feeling better soon.

I can imagine........ Our Stinky teens don't like being around each other much....lucky to get them to sleep in the same room on Vayca......no way same bed !!!! Maybe we can get DCL to have a guys stinky teen and a girls stinky teen lifeboat's, that they can pull behind us........that way we wont have to put up with their stinky sleeping !!!! Kidding FGM......Kidding, well sort of.

Mark

We have to deal with which kid is going to sleep with me when we stay at a hotel. :sad2: They take turns & the day they do, the other sits next to me at dinner. OY!

I've heard that Vista takes about 1 gig by itself.. DH is going to a Microsoft thing Tuesday and they are giving him a copy of Office 2007 ..

Welcome back to the betta family. SWMBO bought one to occupy the little tank DD's fish Sean was lived in before he passed and we bought a 20gal. aquarium. Her betta's name is Vista. She works for Micro$oft and I suggested "Vista Betta" was an appropriate name for her fish.

If the shoe fits...:lmao:

You're probably thinking of hard drive space and not memory. With Vista running, I am only using 32% of available memory right now -- but all I am running is IE.

My Windows folder consumes about 6GB of hard drive space. This computer has a 250GB hard drive but I bought an external 500GB hard drive from Fry's last year that I can access from all our computers that stores my photos and music.

yargrnhoj can you hear the storm at your house? We must have ice with the snow 'cause you can really hear it hit the house and the wind is strong too..

That thought had gone through my mind so many times with my father. When he had his first heart attack, we went over to see my mom. I visited the hospital but didn't bring my wife or kids up b/c I didn't know how he would be. He was still the same bitter and vile man he had been before. People just don't change, unfortunately.

You did more than I would be able to. Since they have always been in denial of any wrong, I couldn't forgive them. I had to let go of the anger in order to move on & not let it consume me. I had to let go of all the feelings...and life is much better now. A good friend asked me what I would do in that case and after thinking about it, I wouldn't go. I don't need to. In my mind & heart I have already lost my parents. Why would I want to have to deal with people who believe that I have "made up horrible things." That part of my life is over with.

Of course, what I went thru growing up as made me the person I am today & allowed me to eventually stand up to them and stop the toxin in my life. My strength has helped me get thru some very hard times and I look at that as the positive thing to focus on. I am also determined to end the cycle of abuse that goes back at least two generations on both sides. If that is all that I accomplish in my life....I will be successful. :goodvibes

Kevin just agreed to take over the model train store he's worked at,on and off,for the last 12 years! Long story short. The lady who owned it originally had a combination model train and beading store. Because of health reasons, she needed to get out from under the train side. She sub-let it to an older gentleman(Conrad) who turns out, knows doodle squat about running a retail business and even less about trains. That was about 5 months ago. He has now decided he wants out. Poor Jeanne was beside herself because that's another $750 a month that she has to scrape up. She told us a man came in and offered Conrad $.25 on the $1.00 for his inventory and then he'd sell it on Ebay. Kevin found out about it today when he went into work. He called Conrad and said "Why not keep it in the family?" Conrad said, consider it a deal!! He doesn't want any money up front. He's going through a messy divorce and bankruptcy at the moment and doesn't want any cash in his accounts.

So, we are going to be changing the name from "Grandpa's Trains and Things" to "Grumpy's Train House"

Wish us luck!!!
