It actually angers me. NC isn't one of the states right now but I am still offended that they are going to insist on the girls getting this but there is nothing for the boys. If the girls are going to get the STD...who are they going to get it from?

I have both a boy & a girl.

That is a good point Lisa.
I need to pay more attention

There are many states pushing legislation to make it mandatory for girls as young as 5th grade to get the new vacine for cervical cancer in order to attend school. The pharmacutical company was pushing it too but has backe off. The problem is this is for a virus that is a STD and it is relatively new. I also heard on the View that it is very expensive & most insurance companies are not covering it. I think that it was $200 for three shots that are needed to be completely protected.

It is amazing how they love to push new things on us! I remember a vaccine series that Amanda started. The next time we went in, I asked if it was time for the next one and they said they stopped giving it. WTH? I can't see how they can mandate a shot for something like this. If there are certain states pushing for it, I am sure NJ is one of them.:sad2:

You been saying that a lot lately! I'm telling your DH! You're in BIG trouble! :lmao:
I've been saying he has a butt a lot lately? I don't recall that.... But in any case, why would I be in trouble for saying he has a fine rear end that looks good in Wranglers? Unless you're talking about a different kind of "big trouble". LOL

I didn't know that we were the family of the week........
now granted we snuck them desert every night....I just thought it was a thank you for all the little snacks.....
You can sneak dessert to them every night?

Ditto

Meningitis is a virus that can be transmitted between anyone. My problem is that this vacine is for an STD. I should have more control over my 11 yo as far as this subject goes and hopefully she will wait much longer than age 12.

Ruby survived her track meet tonight and not only that, she was the only one from our school that won her 300 hurdles heat! (apparently they had 4 races in 300 hurdles, one girl from our school vs 5 other girls from 5 other schools in each race. The one Ruby did, she won! It's so awesome, her first track meet and she gets 1st place... and here I was just hoping she wouldn't injure herself. LOL

Alan DH is having knee surgery tomorrow. I found out yesterday--he swears he told me a couple of weeks ago. I am sure that everything will be fine--but I really don't think he told me............maybe he did while I was trying desperately to catch up on this thread. It really made me feel bad.

Sending best wishes for your DH! I make my DH write things down on the calendar now, because he always swears he tells me when he's working OT or has training & I never remember him telling me. :confused3

Goodnight everyone! I am wiped out. I found out tonight that we are just starting our battle with the school...but at least they are taking us seriously & put the principal on notice. They want the parents to form a task force/committee to compile how we want communication to be handled in the future regarding the problems that we cited. I don't look forward to dealing with her but feel that I need to follow thru with this...if not for my kids, for those who will be there. No child should have to deal with some of these things. My primary concern had her being ripped apart by the superintendent.

I'm with you, Lisa. I think 5th grade is young to be concerned about STDs. My wish is that more parents were more involved and educating BOTH their types of children (boys and girls) on saving themselves until marriage. However, reality is that so many girls are anxious to do stuff even as young as 5th grade (okay boys too). I don't think it should be mandatory, but if the parent feels it's necessary, get it. Why does the government (as pushed by the drug companies) have to make us do things.

Thanks Paula.
Oh you quoted it before I realized I wrote "one" instead of WON! LOL

I hope your husband's surgery goes well. I have no idea what it's like to have a husband that doesn't tell me about things like surgeries (because um, I'd be the one having to tell him, remind him, make sure he's there, etc. etc.) but I DO have a husband that occasionally swears up and down he told me something when I'm the one with the good memory (and he isn't) and by gosh I know he didn't tell me! LOL Hate that so much...

Good night Lisa.

I must have missed your original post about the problems at your school. But I have seen you mention it. I am sure that all of the work and time you and the other parents put in will help to make it a better place in the future. Hopefully your situation will improve tremendously in the near future.

Where DS went to school K, K, 1 and 2nd grade was a great highly rated school. DS was miserable there and I really wanted him to stay in the tradional program. But in 3rd grade I moved him to regular ps and he was so much happier and he has really done well.

Hi All!

Just wanted to pop on and to say hello and goodnight! Hope everyone's day went smoothly. I am zonked after being off with the kiddies for a couple days - first day back at work was today and I got slammed.

Hope to catch up tomorrow. Goodnight!

Mary

Hope you have great success slaying those school dragons . . .

The first quote is what you've said a few times when mentioning DH! That's why I said you were going to be in trouble with him. But I'm sure he'd appreciate your sentiments regarding his rear end!

Congrats for your DD!!!
