Growing up in Queens, everyone I knew had the "NY accent" - and then, of course, there is the Brooklyn accent.

My grandparents were originally from Harlem (back in the 20's/30's). I remember watching old gangster movies with actors using that accent and asking my grandparents if people really talked like that, and they said not quite to that degree, but yes some did.

I think the New york (Queens, Brooklyn) accents have evolved over the last 50 years due to the influx of different ethnic groups. The NY communities have changed much thus I think the accents also evolved along with the diffent cultural influences.

So the accent of post war Brooklyn is different in the new millenium.

Me too....but your's are probably homemade....the Pillsbury dough boy helped me out!

our school won't let us send in homemade!!!:sad1: I got to have fun with it for K and 1st - but then they switched. Now we can only pick up store bought!!! Not as much fun!!!

Wow, so many here with sick family members (and I am counting the four legged family members as well). I wish all a speedy return to health and lots of :grouphug: and pixiedust:

I do all my baking from scratch. It started when I was young. My parents were both working and I wanted something sweet, so I just started baking things myself.

:thumbsup2 Agree 100%!

What's so funny is that when I lived there I really didn't notice it much - but now that I've been out of there for 18+ years, it is very noticable to me.

well, I guess I should just count on DD having a snowday tomorrow. Noon news said one storm Wednesday will follow a first storm tonight to bring 15 to 30" of sn*w between tonight and Thursday night!!! (with 30"+ totals starting east of here into Albany and east!!) THEN Lake Effect sn*w will probaly follow that Thursday into Friday.

then again, the meteorologists get really excited about these systems around here and the possibilities - and like to forecast worst possible totals - so we will see

I only hope DH makes it home to get snowed in with us!!! Otherwise, who knows when we will see him!!!:confused3 :sad1:

Possible Mini DIS Meet ?????

Looks like we will be going to Disneyland on March 23rd thru the 25th just for a quick visit and to celebrate all of our birthdays since they all fall within a couple of weeks between all four of us , So .. I was thinking why not have a little Mini Meet ...So if anyone is interested Please let me know , maybe we could meet at DTD at a place to eat ...or even better yet How about the Blue Bayou ???? I have never ate there before and thought this might be a perfect setting for us Pirates ....So if your up for it we will be there ...Just would like to know how many would be interested if we needed to make a ressie at BB???

pirate:

Put me tentatively down for 2. I'll have to check and see if I can swing it. Haven't been to BB since they revamped the menu. I've heard the prices went up and the service went down, I hope that's not the case.

Too bad we can't have a meet at Club 33. Anyone have any connections????

Edited: Never Mind - Just checked and it's a 3/24 is a block out day for us. It was already going to be tight on the budget to make the trip, but with the added block out passes, I better pass.

ITA - the ones here have a sparkle in their eye when they start talking about total accumulations and such. I guess I have to give the ones here in the downstate region a bit of break because we haven't had anything since last spring, but it's getting to the point of ridiculous! I'm sure that the news tonight will be 90% the storm and 10% everything else!

Hi everyone!

Family and I are cruising and looking for a few hundred friends :yay:

I tried to jump in when this thread was still under a thousand pages but couldn't find any responses so i gave up..lol

At the risk of being redundant cause I can't remember what I posted I am reintroducing myself and my family.

Crusing will be DH and I with our 2 DDs ages 4 and 13 at cruising time:banana: Would love for DD to hook up with someone her age before hand. DD (12) is a serious student and bit if a tomboy. Other DD is a disney fanatic already and just loves everything disney (takes after her Mama.lol).
Along for the ride is my Mom. This will be our 2nd panama crossing with Disney and can't wait to do it all over again.

Now, if i can only keep up with you guys....

Mary

Welcome!

My DD's are 11 and 8, they like to dance, draw and are tru Disney fanatics, we're also from Queens, NY.

Well, I can say for certain that we here in the midwest have NO accent! :lmao:
Isn't it funny how we all think that our way of speaking is the "right way"? :rotfl:

SO I'm still at work. I'm debating leaving. It just keeps coming down. It's not supposed to stop until this evening. SO now my dilemma is do I leave now and risk the bad road conditions, wait and see if the salt trucks/plows come through, or just stay here and wait until later when DPartner can come rescue me?!?! :lmao: (she drives a nice front-wheel-drive vehicle :thumbsup2 )

Something spelt wrong! Should be Fishhook’s, its something you say, if say you hit your finger with a hammer and do not wish to swear! an alterntive to restrain yourself, It was a joke but deleted it now!

Well, fiddlesticks.

Finally caught up. Will be back later. Must bake cookies. MMMM Chocolate chip my favorite.

Happy birthday to All. Hope everyone is healthy. You too BIP!

Last time in WDW a teenager came up to me, I love your accent,
My DS says we do not have an accent, I say we do we are in their country.
The girls says ''you really talk poosh'', are you from Australia, I said no from London UK.

Oh ( this is very true) Do you know the Queen,
REPLY, No not personally but we see her on TV,
Oh, do you stop to have afternoon tea?
Shouldnt have replied like this said, No but we have McDonalds!

I really do not think we speak poosh, but interesting how people view us.
