Hmm....that will make the "Bring a Bottle of your Local Area wine for a Wine & Cheese Party" party a bit more complicated.

If anyone is still interested in a Wine & Cheese party, I bet we could do one by picking 2-3 varieties of wine & asking each participant to bring a bottle. Then we could compare the different vinyard's interpretations of each varietal.

Or, is that too darned educational for a vacation?

If this is a go ... then you can count me in to bring some Niagara Region Canadian wine. We are famous for our Ice Wine! I also have a friend who grew up on a vinyard and can help me select some really nice White or Red wine. Let me know!

The funny thing is, Angelina was just saying last night how she doesn't like volleyball and that's what they were doing in gym class, actually, that's what they will be doing for the next nine weeks. When the nurse put Angelina on the phone, the first thing Angelina said was, "Dad, I really did hurt my hand, and it wasn't on purpose." :rotfl:

Angelina tends to be like me, accident proned!!! :lmao:

All four years in HS, i played on the v-ball team. I was always breaking one or more of my fingers or twisting my ankle that i was always covered with athletic tape of some sort.

I'm still interested and would like to be on the committee to help plan it (notice I said committee)!

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your POV) ...

... my spouse and I do not touch much alcohol...

... neither of us assymilate it well..

We had a wine tasting event on the 2005 EB repo. It was a total pain for the organizer, long story, but very fun for us! Everyone brought a bottle of wine from their region of the country and sent her the info ahead of time. The event was in Rockin' Bar D and she had it all set up beautifully. I am no good at estimating, but I would guess there were at least 150 - 200 people who participated and close to 100 bottles of wine to sample.

Now there's a thought...
if we had a "perfect" market for our cabins we could eBay our better cabins...
. and trade down to a lesser cabin pocketing the diffference!!!

No wonder DCL does not let us do any of that!

Evening welcome to all newbies, all the best to Angelica,

Last time on the 2005 Repo DCL themselves had an auction for a CAT 9 stateroom on this cruise for a Disney wishes charity, I think it went over $20k.

I read the DISboard rules, I don't think there's a problem making a book recommendation? Lisa, please feel free to let me know if I'm in the wrong.

Also, I hope the Panama Canal veterans pardon me. As a Panama Canal newbie, I've been trying to soak in information on this cruise, and this may seem trivial, but I just ordered and received the book "Panama Canal by Cruise Ship", written by Anne Vipond. It's really pretty impressive, a tour book and history book in one, so I thought I might suggest it for other newbies too.

It gives detailed history of the Panama area going back to the first Spaniards who were led by Natives across the 40 mile "Isthmus of Panama" to the Pacific ocean, leading up through the 1849 gold rush and development of the world's first transcontinental railroad over the Isthmus to help prospectors go west. Then France's struggles and failure on the first canal. And then the U.S. helping Panama become independent from Colombia and signing the agreement for perpetual control over the building and control of the 10 mile wide zone around the canal, detailed information on the construction of the canal and recent history as the canal zone was ceded it back Panama by the Carter administration.

Of course, as a tour book, it has lots of information on Ports of Call, including history, culture, shore excursions and shopping tips. It includes information on all of the Disney Ports of Call except Castaway Cay:rolleyes: . Lots of colorful pictures and maps. Great book, I thought it was well worth the $16.

Thanks for the recommendation - I will definately be checking this out.

Yeah Laura! pirate:

Sounds like you got way more snow than we did. Only about 5" downriver. The drifts are unreal! I thought for sure they would have school today when I was awake at 3:30 AM and heard them plowing dd's school across the street!

Yeah I was pretty excited to have a snow day. Iwoke up at 5:40 to get DD up for school but checked the TV and saw we had cancelled. I am very surprised they cancelled because it is Counting Day and also because we had 2 days last week and Utica hardly ever gets snow days. We have been known to be in school when every school district around us is closed. WE live one mile from Rochester and they are always closed and we are open. Go figure.

Except now I don't feel very well, thinking I might have caught something my DS was dealing with this past weekend. At least I won't spoil Valentines Day since Mark is still out of town. But he did get me some beautiful roses for the day.

Have fun Crash!!!!! :thumbsup2

No, we had one even WORSE. It was 10:30 on Friday, December 15. We had a limo picking us up to go to the airport at 12:15 for our flight to Orlando for the 10-day cruise. We got a call from the nurse, saying our son had been injured in gym roller skating and could we come and pick him up. Visions of a visit to the emergency room filled our head.

I can totally relate to the terror of that moment. I had serious doubts about us being about to board the ship for our 12/10/05 cruise. We were leaving Thursday at 12 to drive down and get to PC on Friday afternoon with a stop over night. Well, DD said she was tired around 4:30 & since I was busy packing I didn't really pay attention to her. This was Wednesday. I went upstairs to get something & ask DH something but the stench that I walked into in our room just about knocked me out. He was by the bed folding his clothes like nothing was wrong. I looked at DD who had fallen asleep watching cartoons and she was covered in it. :( She had gotten sick and rolled over & gone back to sleep. OY! I had a mess to clean up and on top of that she was up all night long...so I was on the couch with her & the bucket. :( The next morning I started feeling ill...opened the pepto pills right then and there in WM & popped a couple...and popped them the rest of the next day. Friday I started feeling better & actually had an appetite that night. We went to Carraba's in PC. Don't think that we will go there again. I never heard of anyone putting portabello mushrooms in lasagna before...not something that I do well with at all. I ate very little the next day, stayed in our stateroom and took a nap until the lifeboat drill. I felt fine but was just very tired. After a good night's sleep on the wonderful beds onboard I woke up starving & was fine. DH & DS didn't get sick at all thank goodness, though I had explained to the kids that if any of us got sick onboard we would be staying in the room. I was having nightmares of being ill in the terminal and not being able to board the ship. It took me a couple days to destress from that one.

Except me. I have pulled over CMs when I see a diapered child in the pool. Yes, I am also the guy who throws away towels I see on chairs for an hour with no one in them if I need a seat.

Me too! No reason for anyone to risk the health of my child or anyone else's in the pool. I have seen a man holding an baby in the water. :sad2:

Man - 20K for a cat 9...are we sure we can't ebay our cabins?

That is just revolting. Guess what sweetie....you are treated the same as Joe Smoe in the cat 12 a few decks down when you are on the ship elsewhere like the dining rooms, the pool, the bar. What a revolting person. :sad2:

He must be part of that concierge guests should get reserved beach on CC mentality too....

Gosh to have to be treated like us steerage passengers for once...

Unless the airline rules change, you still can't bring liquids on your carry ons. Best to wait until you get to CA then buy there.

I think that they were referring to carry ons for the ship.. ;) I know that is how we are thinking about it. We will be in CA for a few days so will have the chance to go to Target to pick some up.

Happy Valentines Day Everyone!!!!

The one time we stayed up in the Concierge rooms on the Magic, they had us meet in one of the bars, to help us make all of our reservations for our week. Hair braid, CC activites, stuff like that. It was really nice. Well, there was a guy there who had the Walt or Roy, (not sure which) and he was yelling at the CM because he had to actually come to the bar to make plans and they should have been coming to his suite to help him make plans. After all, HE was on vacation. I felt so bad for the CM she was in tears because this guy was so nasty to her.

...had to echo my setiments before I bolted ...

... it's a shame some folks get like this... alas... there are ALL TYPES who walk our streets. I kno I'm not perfect ... but at least I'm not anywhere near THAT messed up (as the "guest" with the rotten attitude).

Oh well...

...time to bolt now....

And I have to say, I forgot to mention that I was SO feeling like my grandmother!! :lmao: :lmao:
My sweet, sweet, grandmother...
She has a HUGE collection of recipes that she has gathered over the years...I call her all the time to get them from her. (I actually offered one year around Christmas time to type them all out and make them into a HUGE cookbook for her...but she refused. She likes her system of keeping all of the recipes in a box...Gotta love grandma's filing system)
So anyhow, my dear grandma always makes side notes on her recipes when she adjusts something, like 1/2 cup less of this...etc. So I'm making these brownies, and going by the recipe in the Better Homes cookbook. AND I MADE A NOTE IN THE MARGIN about the "less cocoa, more sugar, add the chocolate/peanut butter chips"!
I SO felt like my grandma at that moment!! :lmao:

What a nice memory.
