Hello Everyone! I try to read to catch up every now and then, but life has been a little crazy! My DD12 had a friend pass away in August and that was hard for all of us. She was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in Oct. 06, and from late spring to early summer, she seemed to be doing better. In mid July she started having some problems again, and passed away in August. We took a fall trip to WDW and MNSSHP, and came home to our 13 year old cat who almost died while we were gone. Fortunately after a lot of money later, she improved and is doing remarkably well. We went out of town for a short Christmas break, and came home to a collapsed closet in our master bedroom. Now, we didn't have our home flooded or anything after our record rainfall in early December, but still a mess, and we decided to replace the closet with some nice drawers/shelves/rods, etc., put in new flooring, etc. Needless to say, between the cat and the closet we could have paid for another cruise! Then last night, I got a call from my DS9's teacher and she said that a classmate of his had his sister die from an asthma problem last week. It is so hard to explain to kids why people die. This raised questions from him of if we are just going to die, why are we here? I told him that we are here to help people and do nice things for others and when we go to heaven we can do nice things for people there as well. Does anyone else have any ideas of how to explain this to their kids? It just isn't right when a child dies.
Sorry to ramble, and I realize that I don't really know any of you, but I did catch up on some posts and feel I know you that way. I just saw the pirate zone website and that looks awesome. Thanks for doing that. We are very excited for this trip and are looking forward to planning more. I hope all of you have a wonderful day and enjoy your kids each and every day! I'll check in more often now. Sorry for rambling and thanks for listening!

I've posted bits of this before... when I was 17 my 9 year old brother died unexpectedly. He had recently been diagnosed with cancer. But, he died in the OR during a biopsy. He was the twin of my brother who is coming on the cruise with us.

There were so many well meaning people who told me he wouldn't die. They just really were trying to be comforting. But, it really made me mad after the fact. That has always stuck with me. As a result, I have never uttered those words to anyone.

My kids have experienced the deaths of older relatives, and a few years ago the death of a 5 year old cousin. I've tried to be honest with them. We really don't know why people die when they do, we just know that everyone dies. After my mother died, they wanted to be reassured that I wasn't going to die any time soon. And, based on my younger experiences, I just couldn't bring myself to tell them that I wasn't going to die. So I told them that I wasn't planning on it. It might be semantics but for me it felt honest.

I think my kids just wanted to ask questions. I think they are more afraid of the unknown. So I let them ask what ever they want And, when I don't know the answer I tell them I don't know & I ask them what they think.

Sorry for the long post. I really feel for you. Those are my experiences, for what they're worth.

Got our flights paid for...$500 and change for the two of us. Now, just have to figure out how to get the cruise paid for! ;)

I am trying to find out if there is any interest in putting together a CD photo (sort of our own PhotoPass CD) of pictures on this cruise. I would put together the CD is there is enough interest. I see it being general interest pictures - the ship, the ports, characters, events, etc. This way I can tap into those that are more skilled photographers than I am (which is just about anybody - my method is to take lots of pictures and hope some of them are good).

I would have everyone interested email me their best pictures after the cruise and I will put together the CD. I don't think it should cost more than a couple of dollars each for mailing, etc.

I am a scrapbooker so I am always looking for more pictures. Let me know what you think.

Sounds like a great idea. Thanks for offering.

I am seriously thinking Pirate Night will not be until after we leave Aruba , so towards the end of the cruise ....And dont forget the Pirates Picture with the Dutchman early Morning on Castaway Cay day ..

Dh is considering -- Governor Swann or Cutler Beckett. I don't know who all the characters are but, I'm assuming those characters are tall and thin is why dh chose them! :rotfl: :rotfl:

Wow, Todd, I would love to ride Pirates of the Caribbean with you and a bunch of other Dissers after eating at Blue Bayou -- it sounds really wonderful. I'm envious of those who can make it but it won't be me this time, unfortunately.

I also look forward to Pirates night on the repo, and will be in a (new from the one you saw me in this past summer) pirate's costume, but I don't think I can make it fit into any particular category. Are we still planning the Rocky Horror-style interactive showing of the Pirate's movie? I think that would be tremendous fun, and we could have as many people as want to be involved . . .

We'll be pirates and wenches, but not specific characters. I know we couldn't do them justice trying to put together a realistic costume. But I do like the interactive POTC viewing. Sounds like a lot of fun!

That's a great idea, but it could be a huge undertaking. We have some incredible photographers on board, so if they are willing to share some of their pics, that would be really cool. And I occasionally get a good shot or two and of course would be glad to share as well.

We're confirmed for the Jolly Pirates. pirate:
I received my confirmation today.

Congrats!!!

Since he is over 6' tall I thought dh was looking at being a *tall* character. ;)

I told dh he could go as an older Orlando Bloom. :rotfl: :rotfl: He is also thinking Jack's father.......:rotfl2: Is Keith Richards tall??:lmao:

6dd ( she'll be 7 right before the cruise) wants to go as the monkey...... I told her that I thought a monkey costume would be too hot! :rotfl: :rotfl: She is really small for her age.

Hey Pirates - just a drive by posting. Jan/Feb are my busy times at work - year end/start - multipled by 5! - and our accountants are coming in exactly 4 weeks and I need about 6 to be ready:scared1:!

Happy anniversary 1 day late!

If DS does what he is supposed to do in school, we are taking him on a Dolphin swim in either PV or Acapulco (I haven't decided yet). Hope everyone who signed up for the zip-line in PV has a great time!

Monica, I'm keeping you and your son in my thoughts and prayers.:grouphug:

Roger, got your PM - please let your DD know that she will be hearing from DS this weekend.

To anyone I may have missed that needs them - prayers for you. Welcome to any newcomers - this is a great bunch of pirates that you have stumbled across. pirate:

Have a great week everyone - I'll check in again when I can!

OK, Mike, I will officially start the POTC list. We will assume that every person listed will be bringing at least one family member (although all are welcome) as well:

I received my confirmation today.

See you there, then! :cool1: Roger, have you been keeping track of who will be on the Jolly Pirates that morning? Then closer to time we can contact them and ask to be in the same ship . . .

Here is the list I have so far. I have kept a separate list so I hope that it is accurate. I have a total of 54 pirates. Remember that their big boat holds 64 so we still have room for 10 more pirates. Anyone that is booked that I have not accouted for please let me know.

I would like to do the BOB as well but someone said something about the pressure on the ears.(mine are really sensitive since my tonsils were taken out as a kid) Does anyone know if this is true with this kind of equipment?
Both of us would love the horseback as well but it has been Yearssss since either one of us have been on a horse and if memory serves me, it was on our honeymoon over 38 years ago and that is too long.

The only info I was able to find was this link

http://www.bobunderwateradventure.com/

They say that the body parts sensitive to pressure (ears, lungs and sinuses) don't go lower than 7-8 feet. If you can swim to the bottom of a pool you should be ok:confused3
It looks like a lot of fun:goodvibes

For those of you interested in Emeralds this shop has gotten good reviews on cruisecritic.com

He also arranges tours of Cartagena

Great links.Thanks for the info:thumbsup2

I'm hoping for at least one good photo:rolleyes: This sounds like a really good idea, especially for camera novices:goodvibes

Just heard from Los Veranos Canopy Tours and DS and DH are in for the 1PM tour. (I will be a non-participant) DS is very excited - he had a blast doing a ropes course that included a zip line when he was in Minnesota last month.

Pamela (pdarrah)
Welcome to the observer group:goodvibes My son Andrew also had a blast doing the same thing a couple years ago with his classmates and Kelly had fun just watching the video:lmao:

How long did it take for them to get back to you? I sent in my request yesterday and have not heard anything. Just wondering if it takes a while.

Tracy

It was about 24 hours before they got back to me:confused3

I am getting ready to make our reservation for the 1 PM tour, but DH is hesitant to do anything that isn't a DCL sponsored tour. I on the other hand am not sure if I will do the zipline. I did one about 15 years ago and enjoyed the ride down, but it is the trip up that scared the carp out of me. I know DH really wants to do this and snorkeling on this trip, but I am looking for someone we can "tag along" with so he won't be so hesitant. Any takers? Looks like I will have some company if I decide not to do the zipline.
Looks like a pretty nice size group of observers developing:thumbsup2 I'm starting to lose track..Me, Enna, Pamela, Julie will be there since her tour is before ours, who else.. I'm sure I'm forgetting someone :confused3 Not like we need a sign up sheet or anything:rolleyes: but we will have plenty of people to hang with:thumbsup2

I got confirmation this morning as well for 1:00 so it looks like it is a go :thumbsup2

Are you an observer or a participant:confused3

Well, Tom31B suggested that guys don't want to horseback ride because of Brokeback Mountain!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Does Darren's dislike predate that movie????

At least we will be together on Jolly Pirates -- that will be terrific.

OMG, I laughed so hard when I read that:lmao: :lmao:

Darren's main problem is his hip. Long story, but he has asceptic necrosis of the hip joint. Basically he needs a hip replacement. He hardly ever complains about the pain that I often forget and book things like horseback riding:rolleyes1 But his side of the family is very "traditional", meaning boys like baseball, football, bowling and only girls like horses

Hi Roger,

We have one more DIS'er traveling in our group - Bets19. You can either list her by herself or bump our count up to 6.

Oh I know someone that could hook you up with the Captain Teague costume ...(Keith Richards ) Just PM me if your interested ....

Wow! Now THAT'S what I call a Jolly Pirate boat!pirate:

He is so young to need a hip replacement! I'm sure his doctors have told him to hold out as long as he can since they only last for so long. For most older people, they won't survive long enough for the artificial joint to give out, but Darren certainly would.

Julie, he's been holding out for almost 20 years. He had Aplastic Anemia when he was 19 and he's been dealing with the side effects of the treatments since 1986:headache: They really didn't know how to treat it back then, he was kinda their guinea pig:rolleyes1
He's lucky to be alive:goodvibes
Since he talked to a friend at work that had his done many years ago he is finally agreeing that he needs it sooner rather than later. We just can't agree on when:confused3 He wants to avoid baseball season since he loves to umpire and I want to make sure he gets a doc experienced with the latest techniques:rolleyes: Slightly different priorities;)

Too bad, Cheryl -- we probably could have taken up a collection for those who would like to see you fly past, holding on for dear life, and you wouldn't have even have had to pay for the experience!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

We probabaly could have raised enough for a few rounds of drinks waiting for them to find her too!
EASILY . . .:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Watching Cheryl fly by hanging onto the neck of a horse might have been the highlight of the cruise . . .:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I can guarantee I will do something dumb again:thumbsup2 ......just ask John!!!!!:rotfl2: :rotfl2: I am a American's Funniest Videos waiting to happen.:lmao: :lmao:

Sucking up to the wenches there?

And that is why he is the Captain!!!:worship::rolleyes1
