my tanzanites (yeah, I succumbed :rotfl: ) have much more purple in them. I don't regret the "succumbing" though because I love the color. Mine I bought because I liked them...not for appreciation - and ,as mentioned, know nothing about buying jewelry so I buy what I like at a price I can afford - and rarely buy at that. There is just something about that color!!!!:)

the emeralds - I will try to educate myself before we leave, but will probably end up at a place Disney recommends and just do the "buy what I like and can afford thing".

pirate:

That's a lot more blue than any Tanzanite I've ever seen. Its more like a pale Amethyst to me. Hmmm....may just be my monitor....every image I've tried to pull up is blue like that, but in person it's always been lavendar.

I can remember back in '98 when I was in Grand Cayman they were telling us how rare this stone was and how it was going to all be mined soon. So we really needed to invest then so that we were sure to get some stones. Guess they must have found another source for Tanzanite. Glad I didn't succomb to the sales pressure.

well, it has been a long time!!!! I spent yesterday "Ketch-ing up"!!!! (due to a stomach bug - yuck)

... [edited]... As many have mentioned, I would love to get an emerald, but know nothing about jewelry shopping - so am major intimidated!!!!

... [edited]....

Alicia and I generally are always interested in jewelry...

... however ou interest turns serious only on OUR terms. Having imported a certain amount of semi-precious and gold jewelry many years ago... it makes it contentious when we get serious. Whcih sort of spoils a lot of the usual "fun" in splurging, eh? As such, I've been "interested" in certain mens' watches ... like a Corum Chrono Bubble or a nice Rado... but have never found any angles in obtaining an authentic specimen.

... as for Emeralds, I'm not sure where in the world the price is supposed to be better for fine quality finished specimens. I have heard Sapphires and Emeralds are available with decent quality in Asia.., in particular Thailand. But what do I know? ... nuttin'.... I had a sapphire ring custom made to my hand drawn design once in Bangkok. The process was pretty affordable in my opinion.... well worth the price of air fare compared to buying otherwise if ya know what you want.

At any rate, it's time for me to bventure out for some minor errands. The rain has just begun but I must get some time sensitive things done today (right Esteri?) and - even though I'm still wrestling with annoying symptoms of my lingering flu ... I have to get going if I'm to beat the traffic hour and finish todays' essential chores.

That's a great story Coral!

As another NICU veteran, I'd like to add, hugs and cheers for Cherie also. My full-term, 7 lb., 11 oz. youngest spent day 3-10 of his life in the NICU. He looked like the playground bully and the nurses all took turns holding him (some during their breaks!)because he was one of the few who could be picked up and held. Scariest week of my life. Besides my personal & family crisis, 2 things stuck with me: I don't know how these nurses do what they do & Ronald McDonald House is the best place ever!

I guess we have a bunch of NICU babies here. My DS8 spent his first week there. He was 2 weeks LATE and weighed nearly 9 lbs and yes, the nurses loved being able to pick him up. His only problem was an infection (24 hours of labor 'cause his head was too big - he pooped in there and it was only discovered during the c-section...) and he had to be on the intervienious antibiotics for a week. I must say that the NICU was the noisiest place in the hospital and to this day he can sleep through nearly anything! The nurses were wonderful! He came home on Mother's day and every baby in the NICU that day "gave" their mom a geranium. We still have that plant - it overwinters in our basement!

I thought I'd let my 5000 contribution to the DIS be here on the TOAL thread. I don't have anything profound to say, so I'd thought I'd just share some pirates with you.

Just looked outside and it looks like you are sending us your rain. :umbrella:

Cherie always comments when they get a baby that size. She is use to picking up the little ones with one hand and when they get one that needs two hands they are kind of freaked out.

I finally got around to taking a couple photos of the holiday lights around our house. We were having some power problems earlier this week (CommEd was providing one leg at 130V and the other at 145V!!!!!) so DH had unplugged most of them. He had most of it plugged back in last night, but there are a few bushes/trees missing. If he gets them back on tonight, I'll go back out and shoot a few more photos.

I haven't really learned my new camera yet so these are taken with the default "landscape" mode and a tripod. I think the last one is overexposed - but that also has something to do with the shear number of lights on DS's playset!

IMG_0005_sm.jpg

This is the front of the house - we own the lots on either side, so DH does some of the trees/bushes on both sides.

IMG_0006_sm.jpg

This is to the right of the house - in the very back you can see our garage (which also has lights!)

IMG_0007_sm.jpg

This is the lot on the left of the house - the glowing area in the center is DS8's playset.

I can't imagine a better Mothers day present. I heard it can be bad when the babies aspirate mecomuim(sp?)

Your house and pictures are beautiful. What a great large lot! Puts our subdivision lots to shame.

Hum.... Provided you don't mind a mixed dive/snorkle boat - we're looking for some divers/snorklers to round out a charter. Found a shop that received some excellent reviews and are off the beaten track.

Nope, don't mind a mixed boat. Just want to get into the water with the fishes, etc. Does your shop rent gear?

Brendan and I will be there on the 8th of August.....We will be waiting for you all by the pool!

Chrissie
Will you have drinks waiting for us too? We may need them after claiming and hauling our luggage around:thumbsup2

The dresses people are getting or have are just BEAUTIFUL ! The wenches here have some good taste. So now I am counting on you for some honest feedback.

For princess night we are dressing up for one of the formal nights right? Or is this a seperate night?

Here is a pic. of a gown I bought like 3 years ago for an event that I never wore. Also the shoes and thought I would wear the headpiece that I wore when I got married. What do you all think?

Now I would have to lose a couple of pounds or I am not fitting into this gown.:rolleyes1

Tina - your choices would be perfect. Love the shoes especially.

We haven't quite decided on the princess night. It will either be one of the formal nights or at least to go along with the prince/princess dinner that's usually just for the kids. Once we get a better idea of what our various nights will be, then we'll decide.

Looks like we could fit 3 or 4 homes from our neighborhood on your lot Pamela! And our lots are already slightly larger then average for our region.

Sigh.... a lot size like that would probably have a full blown mansion with 3 bdroom/2 bath guest house out here! <ok... maybe it'd only be a 3/1.5 bath sized guest house> Must be nice ta have all the runnin' room though.

Crossing my fingers I don't lose power today. We're being hit with a couple of rain storms with high winds. A transformer has already blown (too far to affect me) but there are about 20,000 customers in my area who have lost power. Probably close to 100,000 total in the greater area.

One of the bridges is closed in one direction because 2 trucks have blown over. Many parts of the highways are flooded. We just don't normally get this much rain dumped on us at once.

I think they said this was supposed to be the biggest storm to hit us in several years. It should be letting up later this afternoon.

The dog is refusing to go out. He's dancing around but every time I try to let him out, he runs back in the house. I'm just keeping him in his crate, I don't want to find any surprises in the house.

Hope all went well today.:wizard: Congrats on your 5000th post !:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

well, it has been a long time!!!! I spent yesterday "Ketch-ing up"!!!! (due to a stomach bug - yuck)

Hope everyone had an awesome Holiday and Happy New Year to all!!!! WELCOME to all the new pirates!!!!pirate: Arrrgh!!!!!
As many have mentioned, I would love to get an emerald, but know nothing about jewelry shopping - so am major intimidated!!!!
(gotta figure a way to get that pirates thingy into my sig now that there is less room!?!?)

Count us in for wanting an emerald ! Maybe someone could do some research in that dept. for us.:rolleyes1

Well, I got WET!!

Got the fenced patched together in the corner that was coming down. Bungeed it to the fence post on the other side which is metal, and set in concrete. Pounded the braces from the last storm deeper into the ground as they had pulled up. And added some nails.

Good work - given we (DS10 had to help) were fighting the wind which insisted on pushing the fence over into the neighbor's yard.

Outerware is now drip drying in the garage.

By the time I got into dry pants I heard a CRACK and watched as a particularly strong gust pushed the fence IN to our yard - all the way along the back - not just the corner. (There she GOES!) And sure enough the next big gust (in the other direction) has nearly the entire fence lying flat in our neighbor's yard.

Sometime that's just the way the wind blows... :confused3

We needed a new fence anyway. Right? Or at least fence posts - the rest of the fence is good. And now we get to meet our back neighbors - who we don't know. :rotfl:

Like your positive thinking about it all.:)

I love Tanzanite, its so beautiful and its a stone I never see anywhere here so when I wear my ring it gets a lot of comments - though I think most people think its CZ :)

Back in 1997 I bought a tanzanite & diamond ring in St. Thomas. It was the best purchase I made and it is my fav. ring next to my wedding ring of course.

Thanks, how about silver gloves? Feels like it just needs something on the arms. I hope everyone picks one of the formal nights for this as I really don't want to pack another gown.

You reminded me of my mom, sister and my favorite memory from our "qualifying" cruise.
There was a young lady, maybe 16 or so that wore a VERY full ball gown (think HUGE hoop) to our fomal night. As we were waiting to go in the dining room the staff was passing out anti-bacterial wipes. All of us were dutifully wiping our hands when I look up to see "Princess". She takes the wipe and then looks down at her full gloved arm. She kinda shakes her head like she is REALLY confused and then proceedes to use the wipe to do a surgical scrub on.... her only exposed skin- her SHOULDERS!!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

We were laughing so hard we were crying! We still pretend like we are scrubbing our shoulders when we get together to eat. :lmao:

That's funny !:rotfl2: Now I don't think I would actually wear them into dining room. I really just want them for pics. The reason I didn't wear that gown in the first place was my DD convinced me it wasn't age appr. for me.:rolleyes1 Now I am determined to wear it.:rotfl2:
