I got scammed in Mexico on some fake gold once!!! I will definitely be more cautious.

Same thing happened to my Mom when she visited Cancun. My Dad still keeps a fake ring he bought many years ago to remind himself to be more cautious. Happens to most people at least once

I've never had anything like that, but it sounds delicious! If you figure out what it was let me know as I'd love to try it.

Tanzanite is a beautiful gemstone. It sort of looks a lot like a sapphire ... however, I'm no gemologist. SO I might easily be fooled by gems treated chemically, artificially colored, drilled by laser (to remove visible impurities) or irradiated. As I've heard that they "cook" some gems to increase thier "marketability". Check out these discussions on the matter below...

Since I don't intend to spend a large amount on jewelery or to sell it, I usually go by if I like how it looks rather than by marketability. That said, I don't want to get taken either so I will probably stick with DCL recommened stores and do some research ahead of time

I thought I'd let my 5000 contribution to the DIS be here on the TOAL thread. I don't have anything profound to say, so I'd thought I'd just share some pirates with you.

That's a lot more blue than any Tanzanite I've ever seen. Its more like a pale Amethyst to me. Hmmm....may just be my monitor....every image I've tried to pull up is blue like that, but in person it's always been lavendar.

I've seen stones come in dark and light versions, but I agree I think they look too blue to be tanzanite. Closer to a sapphire

my tanzanites (yeah, I succumbed ) have much more purple in them. I don't regret the "succumbing" though because I love the color. Mine I bought because I liked them...not for appreciation - and ,as mentioned, know nothing about buying jewelry so I buy what I like at a price I can afford - and rarely buy at that. There is just something about that color!!!!

the emeralds - I will try to educate myself before we leave, but will probably end up at a place Disney recommends and just do the "buy what I like and can afford thing".

The dresses people are getting or have are just BEAUTIFUL ! The wenches here have some good taste. So now I am counting on you for some honest feedback.

For princess night we are dressing up for one of the formal nights right? Or is this a seperate night?

Here is a pic. of a gown I bought like 3 years ago for an event that I never wore. Also the shoes and thought I would wear the headpiece that I wore when I got married. What do you all think?

Now I would have to lose a couple of pounds or I am not fitting into this gown.

I also have some tanz...a ring that I love with matching earrings....I bought them separately but they look so good together!

In addition to the bad weather, I had some bad news today. The new company I was working for let me go. So it's back to the job search for me.

Bah.

That was my first thought too
I'm going to make phototcopies of our passports to carry in port and maybe look for a travelers wallet (go under your shirt to make it harder to grab)

In the Med we didn't need to carry our passports off the ship. Just needed a driver's lisence and our KTTW card. One day my mom forgot hers, but she did happen to have a photo copy of her passport and that was fine too.

I believe you only need your KTTW card and a photo ID to reboard the ship. I usually bring my driver's license and my KTTW card and have never had a problem. Unless the policy is different for Cartagena I think we'll be all set with the photocopies. Just make sure they are color copies (only the photo/info page is necessary) and copy your driver's license as well (I usually copy both on the same page).

I keep trying to log onto the privtae pirate zone chat forum - but seem to having a problem. I'm stepping out for dinner at Bukka de Beppo - or as some know it - Pukka-de-uppa. In spite of a torrential downpour in progress ... we're going out tonite. We have a special occasion to mark so it's into the storm we go in a few minutes. And I had been hoping to spend these last few moments with my DIS friends in chat before I go get all drenched in the rain.

I'll PM Tom31 to see if I don't get a reminder of what password I'm supposed to be using ... or maybe I'll search through my old PMs to see if I already have the password somewhere....

In any case - our reservation is for 7PM and I only got maybe 8-18 minutes before I gotta go....

Been away from the boards and chat for four weeks -- what's going on. Logged into chat on the website, other than saying HI - didn't even get to chat = got a warning and bounced out and can't get back in. I'll try later and see if I can get in again - Hope everyone had a great holiday - Everything at WDW was great this year - Candlelight, Lights of Winter, the Castle lights and Osborne. Anyone planning any WDW mini meets?
