So is this gonna be one of those moments where no one wants to put up the 98th or 99th posting?

guess i'll step up and do it!

Sorry CaptCrash it was there for the taking, even though we aren't counting the hundreds any more. pirate:

From folks who have been on the other repo cruises, how many formal / semi-formal nights are there for dinner? Did folks conform to the dinner attire recommendations? I was sorely disappointed on our 1/13 at the number of boys and men in shorts at dinner - even on FORMAL NIGHT! Maybe I am just picking . . . though I tend to be a non-conformist . . .ummmmm . . .

Two formal last time most dressed up, and I mean most! Semi formal Ithink was 2/3 rest cruise casual, most of the formal types on all sea days etc PC crossing.

I wasn't on the other repo but I heard it was 2 & 2. DH bought a tux for last year's cruise so I'm sure he'll get a lot of wear out of it for this one. I even bought a tux for my son, because I wanted him to match his Dad. Unfortunately it looks like I'll be buying him a new one for 08.

I like the idea of DH purchasing a tux. Where did your find one? Is there a difference between a "winter" tux and a "summer" tux?

I, too, would like to get, at least, suits, if not tuxes for my boys. However one will be 14 then and the other 12. I'll be lucky if I can purchase them the week before the cruise and they still fit . .. LOL. We bought them suits for our cruise last November/December. At their grandmother's funeral in early March, they barely fit. They are growing quickly now . . .

Off to grout my shiny glass wall tiles in my kitchen. DH is out for the afternoon and I might get this project finished in peace :)

Happy posting!

Both I and DS (5 months at the time) had tuxedos for our first DCL cruise (Eastern Caribbean). Got both of them on eBay :-) Mine was a fantastic Joseph Abboud made for Bloomingdales--brand new, still had the tags on it. I also splurged and got a great Mickey Mouse formal vest like this one. Plenty of complements from guests and CMs alike :) Granted, my tux was the previous year's model but like it mattered considering only a handful of men (and boys :) ) were in formalwear. A lot more were in suits.

I paid less to buy my tux, shoes etc than it would have cost to rent a crappy to so-so at best tux from the local formalwear shop! :sad2: Like I said, the tux was brand new and thus needed altering but a quick stop to Mens Wearhouse and they tailored and pressed it in 45 mintues! :cool2: I also splurged a little on the shirt which I got from MW while they were tailoring the tux. The shirt has a hidden "channel" that hides the bowtie strap so it still looks like a Nehru (stand-up) collar except that the bowtie strap is hidden.

DS's tux and shoes came to about $60 total. Alas he's going to be a "big boy" come the repo so he'll have to get a new tux and shoes.

I also had a black vest so I got good use out of the tux for Palo, semi- and formal nights. Wow! If there will be an extra formal night I think I'll have to get another Mickey vest! pirate: If you (or for you DWs who are prodding DH to get one  ) are inclined to get a tux, I recommend eBay as a source as well as a couple of online tuxedo suppliers. I put together my own ensamble but if you're more of a "one stop shopping" person then a friend recommends a particular online vendor which I won't say here etuxedo.com;)

I wuz expecting more of a lull - and was caught fishing for a suitable 3600th post IMAGE.

Oh well... a good thing this was not the 4,000th or something!??

I have 2 tuxedoes acquired from EBAY plus a nice dinner jacket. Total spent was well under $100. However, I may update one of 'em. I figured I would not be using them much except on cruises - and I have ONE tux that is a bit nicer the other two.

ebay is a great suggestion.....I will just have to wait until much closer to cruise time to get anything....DS is in the middle of a growth spurt and will probably have another one before this cruise comes around

<LOUD Chuckles>

Say... it's all just a fun diversion. I was just checking in and ... there it was looming around the corner. So - no big deal. And I do count them - for chuckles and grins - and that is probably worth it if anyone else is smiling with us!

And you know what they say....

TAKE WHAT YA CAN!!!!

You do have to be careful about buying from a private party though. I would pay a couple bucks more and just buy from sellers who have LOTS of tuxedoes for sale. Not that it should really matter when you're paying 10-20% of normal rates!

So I just got in an hour ago - it's raining here... not so cold but it is cool. Today was fair - had a nice meal this afternoon - did some shopping with family - showed our daughters the restuarant and table where their Mom and Dad (us) had our 1st date and 1st of many ice cream cone strolls. Then we just came on home. Anything new goin' on with anyone else today?:confused3

Went to the Disney Character Warehouse today. Got a few deals, some trading pins for $3, a princess sweatshirt, and a Pirate tank top (rhinestone skull and crossbones on the front). They had the Davy Jones costume for $44, but it looks really cheesy. They make it look good online, but in reality, blech!

Did a little paint shopping, but I can't decide on anything. I'm in the middle of remodeling the bathroom. I keep thinking I should go with more color, but all I really like is white for the walls.
