I like the nightgown ES idea. That sounds doable. Great ideas.

Thanks. I think I'll try to find something for that one.

Awful ambitious of you to volunteer to organize this nationwide! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Yeah, in all my spare time...

Forgive me, but I need to return a groundhog from yesterday and talk a little about mid-life crisis. 29 was hard for me, but after my 30th b-day I realized that BEING 30 was far easier than TURNING 30 ;) This year I have reapped the benefits of my DH turning 40 ... we went on a 2 week vacation in April that included a 4 day DCL trip to the Bahamas and 6 days at WDW. In June, DH bought ME a really snazzy new sports car :cool1: When someone comments on the car I just smile and say, "It's DH's cleverly veilled mid-life crisis" ... and then I put the top down and drive away

Ok, now the costume talk can resume ... pirate:

Have a great day everyone!
Kandi

Oh, I like it!
DH is good to me. He always lets me drive the 'new' car. Even when the new car is a $6,000 squirrel-powered hunk of junk that we had to buy 5 years ago so I could get to and from grad school.

Oh!! I forgot to mention something! No moose (or even .7 moose) around here, but we are about 3 miles from an army post & every time I go on post I see at least one groundhog! I should see if I can get a little pirate hat onto one of them.

M- My DH's jacket was made from a simplicity pattern. I wouldn't work on it too hard especially if you want to slightly drunk/slightly worn Norrington look.
BTW wearing those jackets are killer hot in the tropics so go light on the fabrics and undergarments. My DH was roasting big time on the last trip.

I think even simplicity is too complicated for me!

My DH was pretty toasty last time too. He wore his wool drill jacket from college & a long sleeve Russian Navy undershirt. All authentic sailor gear, but very warm.

I think if I was a pirate back in days of yore I would have been the only one in shorts & a tank top.

And flip flops.

OK, last time a speak of EARTHQuakes :scared1: on this thread. So at 1am last night a 4.5 hit about 12 miles from us. Got DW, DD12 and I out of bed. On the relative scale of things it was only a medium shaker but brings back memories of the big one in 1994. It was DD12 first experience with this size earthquake and she was freaked out. :scared: No damage, it was too small but big enough to keep us awake for a long time last night.

Hey Roger! Except for me the whole family slept right through it. I was still awake or I probably wouldn't have noticed either. I was thinking about 1994 too. I was pregnant with Dylan during that one so he has never really been through a big one either. I was sort of glad they were asleep so they didn't get frightened. I try to prepare them just in case because I don't want them to panic when it inevitably does happen, but I hate to scare them too.

ITA with you about the mass produced costumes. While I can sew, I am by no means as good as yourself, Monica or Pete. But I'm willing to give it a shot. Now I just have to find a good picture to refer to ... off to search the net.

Oh, I can't take the credit on mine. All the sewing was my mom. I can barely sew a button on. I just found all the fabric, told her what I wanted, and she did the rest.

Morning everyone:goodvibes

Heard there was a small earthquake outside of LA early this am. Hope everyone is OK.

Good grief! Yesterday my older son witnessed the tornado/flooding in Brooklyn,NY.....this morning my daughter in Valencia experienced her first earthquake......I know things come in 3's.......please no natural catastrophes in Michigan or PA where my other 2 kids are.

I'm asking all over the place, so some of you may see this more than once. I'm in panic planning mode and just thought of this.

Does anyone have a generic medical release form?

Just realized I should probably sign some sort of medical release form allowing the person who is keeping my son to get medical treatment. I've searched the internet and have only found sports forms or sites that want you to pay.
Does anyone have a form they could share with me? I supposed I could draft one from the sports ones I've found. But of course I'm trying to save myself the trouble of doing that.

What do you call a pirate with no eye?

A prate!

Monica, if you don't like any of Tom's forms and don't find it by the end of day, I have a copy of a generic form that we use when we leave our DD with her grandparents. PM me with your e-mail & I'll send it if you still need it.

I can tell I am gonna be way underdressed compared to you all! :rolleyes1

I think it is great that you all are going all out for pirate night!!! I am sure my camera is gonna be busy busy that night.:goodvibes

I will look like the guy who swabs the decks.:lmao:

Working on my Mr. Cotton as well. First attempt was from our recent Wonder trip. DW made the shirt. Will need to get a different color scarf and a vest by next year. Sorry for the scary look. :scared1: Also need to smug up my face a bit.

You are Mr. Cotton!!!:rotfl2: But without all the wrinkles.:thumbsup2

Glad everyone is okay. It is a toss up to trade an earthquake for a tornado.:rolleyes1 Neither one gives a warning.:sad2:

You guys are all so talented! Seeing all your wonderful creations for pirate night is making me wonder more whether i should turn to sewing! Then again I struggle to keep up with the usual mending & sewing on of badges & name tapes so maybe we'll just stick with the costumes we bought for last year. Both the girls are getting minnie mouse pirate costumes as part of their xmas pressies, so I'm relying on you all to keep the secret for the next 4.5 months!!!

I take bribes to be quiet.;)

Glad Mary you are okay. It is like telling children some strangers are bad but you must prepare them.:thumbsup2

Did your mother just say she had an adopted daughter in Illinois who just happens to want such a great costume like yours.:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

uhhh...DIAL UP!

I'll get back to you for the reunion meets in 2009.

uhhhhh I still have dial-up. Make that 2010 for reunion.

I know Tom posted some forms but look into getting a Power of Attorney as well.I know someone who had a horror story regarding the same issue. When my DD flew to Germany and left both sides watching her kids, she got a POA off the net and had a notary sign it. Apparently the med release isn't enough.

Hi everyone,

Nice to see the coversation on costume again. I love all the pictures. Everyone is going to look so AWEsome.

I really should get in gear with this. After all, I am a professional seamstress and should be doing something creative. Yeah right. Anyway, I had originally thought of doing something ES but I think I am a bit old to pull that off. I tried to talk DD into it but she didn't seem to enthusiastic about it. I think I will probably end up doing something along the lines of a bar wench. Don't know what I will do for Mark. Bobby will probably just hide from his parents.

I was researching this today and need to get going soon if I am going to pull it off once my work schedule picks up again after I start taking new orders.

Thought I would share..cuz I'm psyched...

I just got.....

DSL!!!!

I have been secretly using dial-up!!!!:rotfl2:

Chrissie

Had to re-read that...Read it too fast the first time:laughing:

Hey don't nock the patterns...Actually i had a real nice pattern for my bodice last year. (and only paid about $2 at JoAnn's)

M- My DH's jacket was made from a simplicity pattern. I wouldn't work on it too hard especially if you want to slightly drunk/slightly worn Norrington look.

IMHO Brack is not really replaceable.... Can we just explain that he's off tending to the rum.....?

We had an F0 that scared the heck of of us in Germantown, MD that spun off of IVAN i believe a few years back. Scared the crap out of us. My part of the neighborhood was OK sans a few roof shingles and fascia boards. Over across the main street the next cluster had roofs ripped off and chimney's toppled.

Frederick has had a couple come up the valley out of VA since we've been here but they usually skip over the portion we live in and reappear just north of us.

I'll have to work on Kevin,I'm sure. So, I'll most likely only make him a shirt and some kind of pants. I don't sew on a machine, so it won't be anything too involved. I bought some brown "gauzey" type material for my chemise,a gold brocade for the bodice and that's about it. We'll just be a couple of the Background Extras at this little pirate: shindig.

Bite your tongue!!!!

another poster in Tornado alley......

A few years back I read an article that stated that my county held the record for most insurance dollars spent because of natural disasters...

When the F5++ came through here a few years back, it missed us by less than 2 miles. :scared1:

Thanks. I think I'll try to find something for that one.

Yeah, in all my spare time...

Oh baby, if you want groundhogs, just come to my house....the buggers are a real bad about redecorating my lawn!
