But then we won't have an excuse to go hide in a corner together any more! ;) ;) ;)

Okay....or at least...I'll think about it while you're gone.
But it sure would be nice to not have to hassle with it any more.

I have quit 3 times. Both times when I was pregnant and then about a year after Adam was born I stopped for 5 years. I honestly don't have the desire to stop right now. If I go somewhere it isn't allowed it doesn't bother me. I try to be a polite smoker. But for anyone that wants to quit I wish you success.:goodvibes

Well Roger, since you are at work, can you answer a pharmacy-related question? :stir: :rolleyes1

Do you know anything about Chantix? DHs doc very highly recommends it as a wonderful cessation tool without all of the nasty side effects of Zyban. Just wondering....

Also, if there are any 'reformed' smokers out there who were able to quit, please share how you were able to achieve such success!!! :)

I'm a former smoker,2 packs a day. I ended up goin on the patch. Step 1 was too strong for me (almost overdosed on nicotine) so went to step 2 instead. I just had to stay away from things that I associated with smoking for a while; sewing(always had one burning next to me),bars and drinking. Talking on the phone was difficult. I had Kev take me for rides in the car because we didn't smoke in the car. I've been off them for 11 yrs now.

Thats so funny you guys are talking about this ...I am looking at my prescription of Chantix right now ...Its all set for me when I come back from the Med so I can get myself smoke free ...I am currently down to 1/2 a pack a day on my own and didnt want to be completely smoke free before we went to the med cause I here smoking over there is more so and I didnt need that extra stress ....So whe we get back I will start taking the Chantix and hopefully be smokefree be the end of September ..

I wish you all the luck in the world! Nobody can do it for you, you have to make up your own mind that it's what you want. Sounds like you're well on your way to being an ex smoker! :woohoo:

Thanks Lois. Nowadays, it isn't really all that hard to avoid smoking places. It's banned just about everywhere. We've personally banned smoking in the house for years, as well as the cars when DD is with us. Another big trigger for me is talking on the phone. Oops...did I just give away where DD gets her babbles from? Now I just have to spend more time occupying my hands with things like typing. :)

The phone, the bathroom, after meals, first thing in the morning, after  :rotfl2:

Your clock and my clock are almost set to the same date....just ten years apart. I should set my goal of quitting before 50.

FIFTY! When did THAT happen??!!!:faint: well, it didn't yet......

I'll be having that magic 5-0 in Dec.

HI,
I quite smoking 15+ years ago. I was caring for my newborn godson and didn't want to smoke around him - I got the patch - and stubborn determnation. It helped that DH quit also so we 100% smoke free. Oh - I had cut way back also - to maybe 5 cigs a day when I finally stopped.
Good Luck to all of you - I've never missed it.

Gosh, I still dream about it! I always wake up and say "What were you thinking, you idiot!"

From Jack's lips to......

Honestly peeps i wish you all well in quitting.

I lost my MIL at 56 to lung cancer and those last few weeks i do not wish on my worst enemy...(wait maybe a couple of them) anyway i don't want anyone to end up that way. She and my DFIL were big time chain smokers (i swear they had to have 3 going at one time even between the two of them)

And if i can manage to loose another 70 lbs by next year at repo time then you all can stop smoking.....

Good luck tomorrow Maureen, I hope they don't find any blood clots.

Me too good luck....

My dear father started smoking at 18 during WWII when they gave the troops cigarettes in their rations. I really thought he would never quit. Then my sister who had never smoked a day in her life was diagnosed with lung cancer at the age of 39. She died two months after her 40th birthday. The day she was diagnosed my Dad threw away his last pack of cigarettes and never smoked again. I always felt that maybe he wondered if the second hand smoke had contributed to her illness although I prayed he didn't feel responsible. I didn't want him to carry a burden of guilt. He was 64 at the time and his health really did improve even after smoking for more than 40 years. He lived to be 80 years old and was in good health right up to the last few months before he passed away. I truly believe that giving up the smoking greatly improved the quality of his life in his senior years.

I can only offer my support and encouragement to anyone trying to break the habit. I really believe based on my Dad that it is never too late and that no matter what when you are able to give it up you will benefit from better health.

..another reformed smoker checking in here....

I was a three-pack-a-dayer. I was also a size three :rotfl: . Now I am a size...well, nevermind

I went to a hypnotist twice. The first time worked but only for three weeks. I smoked so much I really think I put my body in shock by doing it cold turkey. Second time I weaned myself down to a 1/2 pack a day and it was hard, but there was a noticable difference in the withdrawal symptoms from the first time.

DH smoked 4+ packs/day (no, i am not exagerating). He would wake up each night at about 3AM and go have about 3-4 smokes, open the bathroom door and the smoke alarm in our hallway would go off. This was a nightly ritual. He couldn't even make it through the night without his fix. ANywho, one day while he had a very bad cold, probably pnuemonia, he all of a sudden could not breath. Had to go to the Dr and get oxegen. he left the Dr office that day and has not smoked since. To this day people say they can not beleive HE was able to quit smoking.

I am not a preachy reformed smoker..to this day smoke really does not bother me (sometimes, I secretly enjoy an inhale of second hand smoke:ssst: ). All's I will say is that if DH could do it.....YOU CAN TOO. He was truly addicted more than anyone I have ever seen before or since.

Good Luck Stace...

I have quit several times myself. Usually for 1-2 years at a time and then I'm back.
Once with the patch and twice with something called auriculartherapy ( Dont know if I spelt it right) I call it an ear zapping. Like acupuncture, but its an electronic pulse on the pressure points in the ear. It makes you skip the withdrawl symptoms.

I believe anything will work you just have to want it. Ive been back to siggies for about a year now...........not ready to give them up. But I am having a sono of my leg done tomorrow (been having alot of unexplained leg pain) 1 possible reason could be blood clots. So the 1st thing to go will be my smokes. I guess all those years of birth control and smoking wasnt a good idea. I guess thats why they put all those warnings on things

Good Luck Maureen!!!

It would be a whole lot easier if there were a magic pill or surgery or some such. Quitting smoking is hard.
Congrats to all who've done it:thumbsup2

Stacey..I wish I could invent that magic pill. I would be a very rich woman :woohoo: .

Quitting smoking is VERY hard. You will be able to do it though, I am sure of it!!!

Wow so many quiting stories. Before my DD was born I was at the point where I really wanted to stop as well.Used to empty out the ashtrays so I wouldn't see how many butts were in there. Had no will power at all. We watched our niece one day and that child always was carrying some bug or another. A few days later I must've looked really bad as my bosses sent me home early. I spent 4 days in bed with the worst flu  I ever had .So sick that Rich and I would flip to see who had to get out of bed to walk the dogs. I thank that child today for getting me so sick I was able to stay away from them since.:goodvibes We now have a smokeless home. Too bad my anti smoking DD is hooked now. She tried the drugs, and quit, and then the patch and quit. You can see she did lapse back.

I really encourage those on the fence to really try. You can't really believe how much better you will feel and smell. Now I hate to get in the elevator at work with one of the smokers straight off the smoking deck. Yuck
Good luck to you all.

Just posting a quick hello!

I am still sufferring with the intermittant DSL service here in Waikiki. It works but is sort of annoying most of the time. I keep getting knocked off and all sorts of other wierd stuff.

I cooked dinner for the 2 families tonight! I made my single "best" dish - a clam sauce from scratch - on pasta and home made garlic/cheese bread. Everyone was prettyhappy except the youngest one who wanted regular bottled sauce. Oh well... ya can't please em' all.

Earlier today we spent our longest day at the beach - and I am seriously "wacked" from the time on the sand. I also built the LARGEST sand castle of our stay so far. It was too close to the surf and my response was to make the walls about 18"-24" thick at the base and it rose 18"-24" ABOVE the sand outside the castle - and about 8-12" BELOW the sand level on the inside. It was about 4' wide and ran back about 3' on either end. Plus in the center of the "castle" I dug out an 18"x12" pit an additional 15" deep as a spot for your feet to dangle when you're seated inside! It lasted all day with lots of water crashing into/around and OVER it sometimes. I did have to constantly rebuild damaged sections - but it endured until I left - then who knows what happened to it?

At any rate - I have not had a chance to read 95% of the postings since I left. But I will someday soon.

Gotta go walk off my meal now - we're gonna do a short stroll through Waikiki now... We hope everyone is doing well and having pleasant days and evenings!

Aloha!

Hi everyone!:wave2:
Just checking in after our trip to Ireland. Kids had a great time & my cousin's wedding was excellent - they sure know how to party. Wedding was at 1.30pm, the party finally ended at 8am!!! Well I'm shattered from the journey home. As we drove, it actually took us longer than the flight to Florida is (9hrs, our journey took 12). Got home late Sunday night to find Lauren's hamster had died, so at 11pm we're in the garden burying it. Straight back to work yesterday & then off to the supermarket & the pet shop, so the Sandy coloured Syrian hamster is now a brown & white Russian, and altho' Lauren obviously knows, Hermione hasn't:rotfl2:
Having realised that ketchup involves over 2000 posts I think it will be a skimming of pages & reading the thread summaries on the website!!!
