*I forgot whether it was *ly or *ley so did a little search to find the answer. Looks like this is not as simple as it seems. :rotfl2:

Hmmm, do you think they'd have a "problem" with this?...

My first name is not spelled correctly on my birth certificate. Well, one might argue that everything else is not correct since it should be what my BC says- but my mother says they misspelled it when they filled it out at the hospital. My BC has my first name as Shelly and all other forms of identification I have (SS card, drivers license, credit cards- etc) all have my name spelled as Shelley. Do not ask me how she managed to get my SS card with it spelled like Shelley- but that's what it's always been... and thus so has all my other forms of identification.
I grew up never even knowing this was spelled differently until many years ago when I needed a copy of my BC to get married (14yrs ago)

So our BC's are all certified with raised seal etc etc... but the only thing is my BC spells my name Shelly and all other forms of ID I have -have it spelled as I have always known it... Shelley. They won't change my BC- I guess unless I go through the motions of like having a name change (costly?) and it never bothered me before. I asked then about it being different and the office at the courthouse said it didn't matter?? (btw- you have to show ID to even get a copy of your BC- and where I got it is in the town I was born also- so I showed ID as Shelley and got a BC for Shelly. KWIM?)

Will this be an "issue"?

Can't you still transfer your ressie to Dreams?

My ressie was originally booked under another TA. I don't think you can give it back to DCL and then reassign again.

(well at least not without egg on your face...since my TA will be on this cruise)

Missed this one.
Now I mean it. Nite all..................

Thanks for the birthday wishes Arlene!!!

Yeah ...

... DU gives me pause to consider them anew with a favorable eye. And it would be nice if DCL did something to explain a little more about the extra $100 pp they're taking.

...however, let me submit that lets' not get too hot about this. Every business has it's own unique set of conditions in which they exist. YES, DCL has the billlions tied up in ships and the franchise - and they are backed by the DIsney organization - but there come times when one hand washes the other - and maybe right now DCL is washing the hands of a weaker Disney division. OR... maybe they're understaffed and missed a beat with us here so to speak.

Otherwise, we DO have a great time sailing with them. I for one want to try and trust them a little while I pursue my inquery as to the "whats" and "whys" of the extra fee. Let's be careful not to let this get out of hand.

IE - lets' investigate this cordially and with polite persistance. I tend to think we have a small chance of being right = and I regretfully suspect that DCL did things right the first time around. And maybe we don't have all the facts. Of course, I do hope I am WRONG and that we are entitled to a belated refund on port charges .... AND a belated explanation from DCL.

Cheryl...

Had to pirate this - I found myself just staring at this a few moments thinkin' about cruising, droolin' an' stabbin' a fork into this!

Thanks Tom for the cute pictures. You are still the Champ. I am your student!!!

I also wanted to say I had other issues with DCL that I have been trying to solve for months!!!! I felt Tom Mc Alpin should be kept in touch of wat the guest realations have been like!!! When I was indoctrinated into the Disney Family, guest service was of number one importance. I think DCL needs to remember what they preach!!!

So that explains it, it was money day.....

Here I come a day late and a dollar short....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
(A little late but with all the original well wishing)

Thanks Tom!!! I know you have been busy a little.:rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

I guess all you could do is try or ask your TA to match the amount of Dreams.:thumbsup2 I hope it works out for you.:grouphug:

Well, we've officially sent the email...:sad1:

We notified DU that we will be cancelling. I wish I could say that it's because we got some good news. But it's because we HAVEN'T gotten any news that we're cancelling.

Now we're just going to wait and see what happens with some of the kids we've inquired about, and then maybe we'll plan a regular Magic cruise for later in '08 or early '09 when we know more about what's going to happen.

We took the week off work last week and went camping up in Michigan. During the week, we did a lot of talking and a lot of soul-searching.
A large part of our decision comes from the fact that the child/children we get will likely have some sort of issues, whether they be health or behavioral issues, issues with attachment, or just the normal issues with the transition into a new home. We know that no matter what children we get, there will likely be some pretty significant bumps in the road to our becoming a family, at least for the first year.

We're just not comfortabe making the commitment to take such a huge vacation while we'll likely still be in that "transition period". Who knows whether or not the child/children would be able to handle it. So after a long heart to heart, we decided that we'll cancel, and then we'll do another cruise later when we can have a better grasp on our situation.

So that's it. It's official. While we're sad, we know that it's the right decision for us right now. Maybe there'll be another "TOAL" in '09! :thumbsup2

I'll still pop in here from time to time and keep you updated on things. Thanks to all of you for all of your encouraging words over the past months. This has been a tough journey for us so far, and it seems we may still have quite a ways to go.

So thanks for being a GREAT group of folks, and I will really miss meeting you all on the cruise! :grouphug: Hopefully I'll get the opportunity to meet some of you on a future cruise! :thumbsup2

Crew -
I think Issac (turns 6 today) got left off the birthday list. Or maybe I missed a step somewhere.

In any case, it would be meaningful to him to receive birthday wishes from my online friends. Could you manage it? Please?

Thanks!

And Happy Birthday BIP!!!

One of the things I have liked best about this board and this thread in particular is the sense of family and what is important in life. It should come as no surprise that the 'residents' of this thread fully support this decision, because family always comes first.

God bless you, and good luck. We will keep you in our minds and prayers and hope you continue to stop in and visit.:grouphug:

I'm sorry that you won't be coming with us, but hooray for being brave and putting your family first. :banana: :banana: :banana: I just know that you'll find a child(ren) that are perfect for you. :love: Best of luck.

i'm not listening.....

(i'm perfectly content with my secret porthole and less credit because i didn't book with DU. At least that's what i'm telling myself or i'm going to have to cry.:sad1: )

Yeah... I did not book with DU ... but I must say my TA has been EXTREMELY PROFESSIONAL in her handling of our reservations. more so than I would have expected with DU. I am pleased to no end with matters .... up to the point of reading about DU doubling thier cabin credit. Now - don't get me wrong - I am appreciative and happy with my TA - but DU has gotten my attention temporarily. I have 30 people in my booking group (and about 5 of 8 cabins booked with my TA this way - the other 3 are subject to transfer from DCL - possibly to DU with this higher rate of ship board credit though).

So - I am officially waiting to hear from my TA about her matching or stepping up their cabin crediting deal. I already have a cabin credit from my TA - and that was slightly LESS than DU with thier original rate. Now it is a lot less with the DU double rate.

For the record, if I get nothing more I'l still be satisfied. Just not quite AS satisfied as I was before. <chuckles> I will be fine either way cuz my TA is a great professional and worthy of earning my business. :thumbsup2

Some may find this of interest - while some may not. But according to a "Solar Calculator" web page hosted by BP... this is what I can expect in rough terms as a result of installing a 3kW array:

BP Calculator said:

What it costs
Retail Price = $27,000
Rebates = $6,412
Tax Credits = $2,000
Final net cost = 18,588

My actual initial cost is $22,900 minus 6,300 minus 2,000 equates to a final net cost of $14,600
Unless the US Govt passes the higher rate of tax crediting - of $4,000 (or more)!

Electricity Production
Monthly = 358 kWh
Annual = 4,304 kWh

Bill Savings
What you save
Monthly = $61
Annually = $743

Tax Savings Only applicable if we finanace - so it does not apply
$37
$444

MY Total annual savings = $743

Bill Reduced By 61% 62% (Which is more or less accurate)

Geographic Details
City: Westlake Village
State: CA

Sunlight intensity:
The sunlight intensity in your area is rated: Excellent Environmental Benefit
Per year, this system will eliminate the production of
4,766 lbs of CO2
7 lbs of NOX
5 lbs of SO4
This is equivalent to planting 1 acre of trees

.

As such - my break even in constant 2007 dollars and a constant 2007 rate of power COST is about 19.7 years. Or if the US Congress passes the pending bill to renew the US Govt Tax credit at $4000 as currently proposed - then my net 1st year cost will be $12,600 with a 16.9 year period to break even. I can live with this and SMILE because I expect power rates to continue to rise faster than the rate of inflation! So this this results in a slightly faster break even. :)
