Thanks for the welcome.....wanted to do a Disney cruise this summer but didn't want to take the chance of the younger one not being potty trained. I think we are just about there though. DH and I are cruising to Bermuda alone at the end of August (on RCCL) so that will have to hold me until next year!

Anyone else from NJ?

Several from NJ are on this thread, me being one...........;) I just won't be on the cruise........

Good news and bad news from my visit to the doc today. Good news is the rash is healing nicely and I "CAN" return to work tomorrow, bad news is, one of the side effects from the Lyrica is possible weight gain. Well, I gained 8 pounds since last Monday, like "I" need to gain weight.......:lmao:

I go back in a little over two weeks to see the doc for my next follow-up visit. He also gave me another scrip for a 30 day supply of Lyrica. I wish I didn't have to take this, but I need it to help keep the burning sensation at a minimum. Oh, the joys of aging..........

After lurking since the winter - I have decided to start posting. My family (myself, DH, 2DD ages 4 and 7) will be joining you on this cruise. We are very excited and can't get over all the valuable info found on this thread. I have to admit I usually spend time on the DVC boards, this one always seemed too intimidating with the number of posts. Not sure if I'll be able to keep up!

Welcome Princess....

Where are you at on the Jersey Shore?

Caroline is from Cape May and has 3 little girls. I think her youngest is 4 but her middle might be older than 7 (closer to 10 i think).

Caroline has been on thread hiatus for awhile but will be back in a few months.

I feel for ya Andy. Lyrica must be a steroid, right? I was put on Prednisone for my asthma several years ago and gained 20lbs in 1 week.:scared1:
It was all down hill form there. :sad1:

Hello everyone,
I have been MIA for months, but had to concentrate on my Med cruise and other stuff. Since this is now my NEXT cruise, I can devote all my attention to it. I have a question......originally, I thought there was something on page one that had lots and lots of vital info regarding this cruise.....siggies, activities, rosters, thread summaries, etc.....but i can't find it anymore. I also used to be able to access the Pirate Zone, but that doesn't work either. Could someone please get me reoriented? I know I can't keep up with you guys, but I'd like to pop in from time to time and know what's happening. Thanks a bunch!!!!!

You will need to PM tom31b about access to the website.

I love your Mickey 08 banner! Do you happen to have a large version of that you can post?

How was the Med?

Just duplicating my post from the WB thread, for EB cruisers to see:

I've just come off the phone from an incredibly frustrating telephone call with DCL. Joseph of DCL Guest Communications, from whom I've received the e-mails I've previously posted about, telephoned me. (Mostly, I think, to ask me to stop bothering him by e-mail!) We talked for about 20 minutes (their transatlantic phone bill, not mine, I'm glad to say) but just went around and around in circles.

He insisted that the original cost of transiting the Panama Canal was not included on an individual basis. I said I did not believe that over $200,000-worth of transit fee was not taken into account when pricing the cruise per passenger. He agreed that it would have been taken into account, but tried to make it seem as if it would have simply been included along with every other cost over a year to reach their cruise costs in general, not for this specific cruise. When I said that I didn't believe that to be the case, that this is a fee specific to just these 2 cruises, he just kept waffling on about how it was never included on an individual basis.

I pointed out that someone within DCL Finance would have known exactly what the fee was and would have costed it to the cent, as they will do with every other cost involved, before deciding on the cruise price to be charged to passengers.

I also pointed out that they are charging us twice - the cost of the original fee, however it was included in the cruise price, and the extra $100. He insisted this isn't the case, and just kept repeating the line about it not having been included on an individual basis. It didn't matter what I said or asked, he either couldn't or wouldn't answer.

According to him, he is sorry that I am disappointed and feel this way, but it is simply my 'perception' of the situation and not the 'reality'. When I said that I knew that many other people, from both the Westbound and Eastbound cruises, also believed that DCL are charging us twice, he told me that he had not heard of anyone else contacting them! I did laugh at that. Hasn't this company heard of the DisBoards for goodness sake?!

I told him that I thought it was a great shame that Disney were being so underhanded and treating their loyal customers so badly simply in order to make an extra few dollars out of them. Of course, he didn't respond to that - presumably they don't have stock answers to that in their manual. I thanked him for calling and we ended the conversation.

If each time one of us contacts DCL we are told we're the only one complaining, even when we know we're not, then maybe we should somehow get together and submit a complaint en masse.      I seem to remember seeing someone, either here on the EB thread, suggesting a petition. Does anyone know how we could do this via the boards? And who it could be sent to?

The doc didn't say exactly, but that's my guess............ok Roger or Mike, help me out with this one, is Lyrica a steroid? :confused3

I was on Prednisone before, so I know what you are talking about. The hard part is getting the weight back off. :rolleyes1

How was the Med?

Thanks, I'll do that right away.

The Med cruise was awesome......but exhausting. We were on the first one (with Joey Fatone) which had 3 sea days and we were still totally wiped. I don't know how the 10-day sailers are going to survive. It was extemely port-intensive and seemed like we were always getting up early to run and do. I am REALLY looking forward to this PC cruise with all the nice relaxing sea days.

About the banner....you can find it on the WISH forum site. I think it's one of the sticky threads under "Events and Competitions". Mickey '08 refers to the full Marathon (26.2 miles) that takes place at WDW in Jan'08. Donald is the half (13.1 miles) and Goofy is for people who do both (39.3 miles over 2 days!) I have never done a marathon before, but was so inspired watching my daughter run one at WDW this past January, I have been training since then and am now scheduled to do my first in Jan '08. I will be doing it with another DISer (and throngs of other DISers from the WISH board) who will also be on our PC sailing (padisneyfan). That's one of the reasons it has been so hard to keep up with this thread.......our training takes hours and hours each week. I'm 54.....Nancy is a few years older...and this will be our first full marathon. I train in NC and she trains in PA, but we did a half marathon together in April in PA and it was as if we had been walking together all our lives. if you've never been to the WISH board, check it out....they are amazing folks over there.

My DD was born in '03, so depending on whether your youngest DD is 4 now or 4 on the cruise, they should be pretty close in age. Maybe we can get them together.

Hi Andy

No Lyrica is not a steroid. It is actually classified as an anti-epileptic medication. It slows down your nervous system (so that certain electrical conductions don't go as fast). But its primary use is in the treatment of nerve pain neuralgias or herpes.

Here is the official statement

Lyrica is used to relieve neuropathic pain (pain from damaged nerves) that can occur in your arms, hands fingers, legs, feet, or toes if you have diabetes or in the area of your rash if you have shingles (a painful rash that occurs after infection with herpes zoster). It is also used in combination with other medications to treat certain types of seizures in patients with epilepsy. Pregabalin is in a class of medications called anticonvulsants. It works by changing the amounts of certain natural substances in the brain.

And yes weight gain is a common side effect. Hopefully it will come off when you discontinue the medication.

Thank you so much for sharing this. Do you have Joseph's email address so we can send him a little note. :)

:rolleyes1 oh so he wants the REST of us to email him then.....

Thank you so much for sharing this. Do you have Joseph's email address so we can send him a little note. :)

My thoughts exactly Roger....:thumbsup2

Never underestimate the power of hundreds of Dis'rs with email....
He'll never be able to answer it all for weeks to come....

Of course we could be nice and email one long email with everyone's signature.....

but in this case since DCL wants to be so arrogent...
NAHHHHHH

Hundreds of email to Joey would be far better satisfaction for me. (Think we could tie poor Joe's billable time up over the next few weeks/months/year to the tune of $240,000?)

DH learned about the new ride at Kennedy. He had nixed a trip there during early planning, and now wants to add it back to the itinerary. :headache: It's a good thing I planned for a "relaxed" trip. Does anyone know if it's possible to do a water park (in the morning) and Disney Quest (in the afternoon) in the same day? Pthththt.

We've done that combo quite a few times. Sometimes bringing a change of clothes to the water parks, sometimes heading back to the room to change then go to DQ.

I have been over to the WB site seeing what their take on the panama tax and found this very good email with response from DCL.

This response is totally unacceptable. :sad2: Yes the new tax (charge) was designed for the cruise industry to pass on to the passengers. We still have to pay to go through the canal. The passenger has to pay the charge either 1) in the cost of the cruise or 2) as a separate surcharge. That is OK with me, I accept that I have to pay passage through the canal. But what really gets me is DCLs insistence that this is an increase and not a new method of collecting the tax. This is not an increase it is a restructuring of how the fee is calculate per passenger not on The Panama Canal/Universal Measurement System (PC/UMS) based on net tonnage which it is now. DCL had to figure in to our fares each of our portion of the PC/UMS fee (approximately $70-80/person). They are therefore charging us almost double for PC/UMS that they anticipated paying plus the new method that the PC has decided to assess the charges. DCL is basically saying that we are just going to keep the money that we have charged you already and you get pay the new method.

Anyway the other site is doing an email campaign and John (Jhalklas) is locating a higher contact person to email to versus the standard email responses that people are getting.

I'm interested to keep reading and see what comes of this.
