You can just cash them in the WDW before you leave. Adam was always really tight with his too. He always came home with cash.:)

My head starts spinning when I read this analysis (anyone else). Translated, you think you will save money on energy and increase resale value of house combined in excess of cost of installation?

Me TOO!! Thanks for the crisp, and susinct summary. ;)

We did them a long time back, and were told that you couldn't do that. :confused3 In any case, if they loose these we're just out a bit of paper. Disney Dollars are still "real" money.

This one really struck my funny bone. pirate: ing for a second time around...

Thanks Tom!! :lmao:

I thought you'd guys get a kick out of these. I've been getting us organized for our WDW trip in a few weeks. Spending money for the kids is always an issue.

To keep the "I wants" down we give the boys their own spending money. Actually, it's their own money - but we do limit the amount they can spend on the trip. OK, this is DS5's (turns 6 on Thuesday) first time with his own money.

I don't mind DS10 carrying around cash - if he looses it, it's a life lesson. But DS6 is too young to carry cash - yet he needs a way to know how much he has left to spend. Something he can count.

So, Bank O Dad Bucks have been born... (sized to fit 6 to a page)

Disney Dollars - yeah, we've tried them, and discovered that DS10 is a tightwad. He didn't use even half of his money, leaving us with Disney Dollars, and only limited ways to spend them. These are better for us - the boys can use them anywhere. (So, long as mom or dad are around to convert them to USD! :rotfl: )

We do Mom & Dad gift certificates, but I like the cash idea (may have to steal)!

Anyone else thinking of printing some of these for the TOAL, give them to our kids and have them seek out Esteri to cash in? :lmao:

I used to make teddybears. I promised the girls in chat last night that I'd try to post a few pics today, here they are. I don't use a sewing machine, the bears and the clothes were made completely by my 2 little hands. They're all full jointed and stand 22". Since I've gone back to work I just don't have the time to do them anymore. I've made well over 200 bears. Used to make a pretty good living at it too.

LOVE, LOVE your bears! I have a handful of Stearnsy Bears that I've bought when the kids and I drive through MO. I love handmade stuff!!!

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2
What a cute idea. My son's too old for this. However, since my aunt her daughters will be joining Tyreak and I on our Easter trip, I can make some for her. My cousins are 17 and 5. I'm sure the little one(and my aunt) will love these.

Hummmmm. I feel new engraving plates coming on in 2008 - mid-2008. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Tank-tops, Pillow Cases, and Mugs
Walt (the printer) has confirmed that he can do tank tops (which he'll provide), and anything that we wish to send him - such as pillow cases. (I can order those and send them to him.) I will add tank tops and pillow cases to the list of stuff available to order. But no mugs.

I would like to recommend a higher thread count for pillocases though...At least 200.

So the next question is: How many folks prefer Christmas delivery over Just In Time? (I'm figuring an October order window, provided we can get the artwork sorted out. To allow for Walt's time, and the time I'll need to sort and ship.)

I'm ok with JIT.

I used to make teddy bears

Do you have any recommendations for suppliers? i am in charge of making message bears for an event coming up and need some nice bears cheap.

The odds of being struck by lightning are 1 in 83,930
I say that because it appears now that the odds of the Dodd family making this TOAL are really, really slim. :sad2:

:sad2: You know the odd's of getting mad cow disease are less than getting struck by lightening.

Cool - I like these! We also have a Bank of Dad - but ours has a passbook like a savings account. DS8 can deposit money in and withdraw (with our approval). He tends to be very frugal with his money so mostly the account keeps going up. I have an 8yo with a "bank" balance near $150! He says he is saving up to play Bingo on the TOAL! :rotfl2:

Pamela (pdarrah)

Hi Everyone!

I am back! Brendan and I went for a long weekend to Vermont and Montreal. Never been to either....Had to cross the border...that was an experience!

Now my countdown to WDW Aug! I see you all have been very busy...I am not a ketcher-upper (don't have the patience!) so hopefully I didn't miss anything too important!

You could try Hobby Lobby or Michaels. I used to get a lot of my supples through C.R.s Crafts.

I just needed to check out a post and saw the new ID, stopped and read the post and figured that it had to be you and your other ID must have given you a hard time. :)

You got that right. Although I have been on the DIS for over 5 years and I liked that ID I didn't need the aggrevation anymore.

As of late my girls are starting to talk about the repo again which makes me happy.

The bottom line: If my girls are happy....I am happy.

I imagine as we get closer to the sail date I will become more and more active in this thread again. It is hard to stay away from so many great folks.

Speaking of, I haven't seen a post from JustMeStace lately.

Is she still going?

Glad to hear you are not spending too much time on the boards. :rotfl2:

My head starts spinning when I read this analysis (anyone else). Translated, you think you will save money on energy and increase resale value of house combined in excess of cost of installation?

Well...

... my GREEN spouse wants to install it BEFORE we add an addition to the house. So - whether or not it makes $ sense we're gonna probably do it. As for saving anything - or adding resale value - that's all vaporous conjecture depending on whom you're chatting with. I figure it will add something to the homes' value and save us something on a monthly basis.

Anyways - we're down to the final reveiw this evening - and it looks like a fair deal to me. In some ways - I am expecting the future to bring better deals with higher performance systems for less cost AND better government incentives. BUT then again, we're not getting any younger and the my father reminds me of something that sticks in my mind: His mortgage payments on his 1st home bought in the late 60s was $152 a month. And today many electric bills are greater than that! SO - if we're still around in 20 or 30 years and the system is still operating with at least 60-75% efficiency (which is likely since the panels supposedly lose 0.5-1.5% efficiency each year)... then it'l still make some sense.

At any rate - It should be an interesting experiment to do this. We'll soon see how it turns out.

Cheers,

Tom

Glad to see you back Sarah's Dad :cool2: :rolleyes1 We have missed you. Stacey is still around, last I heard she was off to Nebraska to see relatives.

Where is all the information on the T-Shirts and such. Went to the pirate site but did not see it.

Do we need a user name and password?

Thanks for the help

Thanks Roger. We just went to WDW from 07/12 - 07/20 so our focus was on WDW. We were thinking about going again over Jersey Week Nov 4 - 9th but the air fares were double normal so we are going to pass.

Our next Disney trip will be 3 days at DL before the Repo so since the next best thing to being at Disney is planning a Disney trip we are "full speed ahead" on Aug 08!!!

I would like to recommend a higher thread count for pillocases though...At least 200.

I was planning on using my supplier for ready to dye clothing. Their pillowcases are not 200 count. But they're made by co-ops in developing areas - so I feel good about buying there. :) My concern about regular pillowcases is that they have fabric finishes on them to help prevent staining. This means the paint from the screening may not "stick" as well. I can get some stuff to wash them in that will help remove the finishes. But, finding 200 count pillowcases at a reasonable cost may be difficult. Here's the URL for the pillow cases I was planning on getting: http://www.dharmatrading.com/html/eng/3450-AA.shtml?lnav=clothing.html

BTW, if you're looking for really good dye based (no fading) pens to have the characters sign with - try these: http://www.dharmatrading.com/markers/. We got fine tip last time and it was too fine. Recommend something with a larger tip.

OK - I went surfing and found a spot where we can get 210 threadcount standard size cases for $2.50 each - sold in dozens. So it sort of depends on how many folk want them. :goodvibes I'll have to get the stuff to remove the finishes and wash them before sending them to Walt.

Our Bank O Dad also has a bank book. Dad wanted the boys to "get" compounding interest so it pays 10% per month!! :headache: I told him he had to renegotiate next year - these $15 interest payments are getting me down! DS6 has $175 (he netted $85 on eBay selling the iPod he was given) DS10 has $145. That's after we made him replace a jacket he lost to the tune ofr $45.

:rotfl2: Little brother has more than big brother. Oh, that is going to TICK big brother off. :lmao:

You can see why we're making them spend their own money on vacation. :rolleyes1

Please keep in mind that there is art work for the Front and Back of the t s***....

Here is a reminder of the front and the back .....

Tom if you could ...Please post these on the website so people can see there what the shirts look like

Now ...just cause some people were asking and Esteri brought this up ...Some people have asked about Red ...as you can see below the red washes out some of the logo ...Now the Dye thing might be okay but personally thats why white and black go so well with this ....Plus I know some of you have said Black would be hot , well Red would be hot as well ...but anyway ..I am sticking to black and white for myself (these be True Pirate Colors) but I just wanted to show you what we ment by washing out some of the logo ...

Red Front

Red Back

So there you go ....Tom again if you could add the black and white versions to the website ....If you look at the red logod shirts those are the cleaned up logos that are going on the shirts ...the black and white versions are older but the new logos will be on the black and white shirts but I didnt have time to change them on my village photo account ...LOL

pirate:

Crew -
Todd and I have been working behind the scenes on the t-s****'s I thought I'd give you a little update.

Artwork
We've been having some problems getting the artwork to the printer. He wasn't able to access the FTP site I set up, and the DVD we sent he couldn't read. We're working out these technical problems now. As you can imagine, the artwork files are HUGE! - which makes them a little tricky to move around.

Tank-tops, Pillow Cases, and Mugs
Walt (the printer) has confirmed that he can do tank tops (which he'll provide), and anything that we wish to send him - such as pillow cases. (I can order those and send them to him.) We've been focused on the artwork and I haven't got pricing from him on these items yet.

Unless we're willing to order A LOT of mugs - getting them won't be cost effective. Sorry.

I will add tank tops and pillow cases to the list of stuff available to order. But no mugs.

Children's Shirts
It occured to me to verify his ability to do children's shirts - rather than just assuming he can do it. No problem. One thing to think about is creating a second (smaller) set of screens for the children's shirts. Let's face it - the artwork sized to fit the smallest shirt will look pretty darn silly on an adult, and will be too big for the little shirts.

This means that the "volume" discount would be calculated separately by group since two set up charges are involved. So, if we have 200 items ordered, 150 use the large screens, and 50 use the small screens. The orders with 150 would get the 100 count prices, and the order with the small screens would get the 50 count prices.

So, the question is - do we want to have two sets of screens? And if not - how does the artwork get sized?

Colors other than Black and White

Here's the scoop on colors other than Black and White. Additional colors will not add to our cost, the shirts are priced separately depending on color already, and the set up charges are spread evenly among all.

However, they will add significantly to the headache of making sure everyone gets the right stuff, and setting up eBay to take the orders. In order to get these discounts, we make a single order. Walt ships all the shirts to me, and I sort, package, and ship them to you. This is already going to be difficult enough without adding a rainbow of colors. In addition, there's the whole artistic angle of putting the artwork on a color that just plain clashes with the artwork. Ug!

However, like BIP I'm not all that thrilled with black myself - so this is what I'm willing to do. (Yes, yes, the Capt'n and I have already discussed.) If there is enough interest, I'll look into figuring out pricing to create a special red shirt.

I am willing to bucket dye shirts that will then be screen printed. I will match the dye to the red in the artwork as closely as I can. Understand, bucket dye shirts do not come out a solid color. The color flows and fades across the shirt. Here are pictures of two shirts to give you an idea:

This was originally a plain white DCL polo shirt we bought on our cruise last August. White is just so, well, plain. I was going for the feeling of the ocean here - I think I got it. I'm really pleased with how this turned out. :goodvibes

sampleshirt1.jpg

Here's something similar in a dark red / burgundy color - closer to what I'd have to do for these shirts. Though, I think our red is a little more brown. I'm putting this here because it nicely shows how the different components of a mixed dye move through the fabric at different speeds. Those light colored areas are actually a greenish gray. Looks cool in real life. But, be forewarned - any bucket dyed shirts you may get may or may not be solid red, and certainly won't be the same shade all over.

sampleshirt2.jpg

The artwork would then be screen over the bucket dyed shirt.

If there is interest, I'll go figure out costs for these kinds of shirts. They will probably be more expensive, and the ordering window will definitely close earlier to give me time to get the dying done.

Be aware: The official t-s**** colors remain, Black for sail day, and White for PC.

Ordering Windows
We originally were looking at having three ordering windows: Now, Christmas, and Just In Time (about 120-90 days from sailing). "Now" is out the window as 1) nobody wanted it, and 2) we're so late in the year that "Now" basically is the same as Christmas.

Given the above (multiple screen sizes, etc.) does anyone still want Christmas? When I asked before not many wanted it - the vast majority wanted Just In Time. So, if you want them for Christmas, they will be more expensive as the volume won't be as big.

So the next question is: How many folks prefer Christmas delivery over Just In Time? (I'm figuring an October order window, provided we can get the artwork sorted out. To allow for Walt's time, and the time I'll need to sort and ship.)

You can respond here, or PM me. I'll be checking in this week, but after that - PM is the surer method until Sept.

Where is all the information on the T-Shirts and such. Went to the pirate site but did not see it.

Do we need a user name and password?

Thanks for the help

Tom and Diana

Tom and Diana here is the posts regarding the shirts. We are still in the planning phase and orders are not being taken yet. Esteri will let everyone know when it is time to order shirts.
