Andy, I talked to my boss. You can definitely have another Shingles outbreak, so you will probably want to receive the vaccine. She said that it will depend on your Dr. whether or not he'll give you the vaccine before age 60. Most of the trials were done in people ages 60+, which is why the CDC recommendation is for that age group. Considering you have already had shingles, he/she may give it to you before age 60, but you'll need to ask him/her. Hope this helps. FEEL BETTER!!

Thanks Mike, I have a follow-up appt. with my doc next Monday morning, I will ask him about the vaccine shot then.

I woke up a little bit ago and found that I have a new rash starting on my chest, and Hazel said the rash on my back is a bit larger than yesterday. I hope these meds kick in soon.

I asked my TA to inquire:

1) Where in the terms and conditions does it say that Disney is not bound by the price they offered the cruise for?
2) How they arrived at the $100 figure, everything I see from the Panama Canal website puts the figure at $35 per person or less?
3) How many more of these "tax increases" we can expect?
4) Is it true that anyone paid in full is not subject to this increase?

I'm glad you are on our side Tom:banana:

Hi all, hope you having a fantabulous Tuesday:

Chicagoans -- sorry I missed the meet. DS13 made the championship swim meet so that's how we spent our weekend. His U14 water polo team also won the Naperville city championship last week. He didn't score a goal but had a couple of assists (and no drowned horses).

Andy -- sorry to hear about the shingles. :wizard: hopes they go away soon

Andrew -- have fun in the Med and don't do anything I would do.

All -- sad to hear about the $100 fee. Reaffirms our decision to cancel -- that would have killed our OBC and Disney VISA points we were planning to use for on-board spending. It's pretty lousy of DCL to pass that along to people with confirmed reservations. I know they are running a business, but like someone else said, this wasn't out of the blue and they could have built it into their pricing structure.

Mickey puzzles -- we have two in our loft with two more photomosiacs in the basement (one of Pooh and one of the castle) still to be done.

good afternoon everyone!! hope you all are having a great day!
jr..it it good "seeing" you again!

This whole $100 per person thing has pretty much clinched my decision to cancel the DCL Transfers for our reservation. I am pretty sure that by arranging our own I can save about $100 so that is 1 of the 3 of us covered there.

Actually, if this group here decides to put together a bus or something from either DL to the port or Port Canaveral to MCO it could possibly save even more. The most expensive leg of the trip I am estimating will be from Disneyland to the port - the cheapest shuttle service I have found would be around $55 for the 3 of us. If we don't end up with a group bus or something like that - are they any families of 3 or 4 that plan to stay at the HoJo? A single group of 6 or 7 is cheaper on most of the shuttles than 2 groups of 3 or 4! ;)

As I said before, this ship is sailing completely full and DCL is certainly not running a boarderline profit for this voyage. A token attempt to "ease the burden" would go far in customer satisfaction.

I suspect that very few will cancel their cruises over this increase, but it will leave a sour taste with many of us - and I suspect that many will have their onboard spending effected since they have a total budget for the trip and it will just have to be rearranged to handle this extra cost.

Pamela (pdarrah)

Pamela, I couldn't agree more on this comment.

I still have a bad taste in my mouth from my 2006 10-Day HC when I found out that many of my fellow cruisers (including one family that re-booked onboard during the 2004 10 Day HC, same as I had) were given the 10% discount for on board re-booking of said cruise. We were told that the discounts do not apply to ANY specialty cruises. We all now know that rule no longer applies. Unfortunately, I was not informed of this by DCL or my TA, so I never knew to fight for it beforehand. Once I got home I tryed to argue my point in the matter to no availe. In fact, the woman was quite curt (bordering rude) with me. There were definately two sides to the argument so I didn't see her need to be nasty, but I sincerely felt as a loyal WDW/DCL customer they could have given me the discount that was given to others under the same circumstances (re-booking while onboard). I let it go, but since it was over $1000 it is something that has left me with a "less than magical" impression of how I am veiwed as a loyal customer by DCL.

Jump ahead to the infamous 1/31 booking frenzy of the repo/MR cruises. IMO, the way that entire booking procedure leading up to and including the first day of booking was such an in-your-face, we are not intersersted in any level of Customer Service to our MOST loyal customers on these sailings, it almost leaves you speechless. Again, JMO, but I think that it was a calculated effort to drive up the tier pricing within hours, if not minutes of the opening booking bell. Again, leaving me to ask myself, do they value me at all as a loyal customer???

Now this....I feel fortunate that this is only adding $300 to our cruise. There are some with families of 4,5,6 or more and that is a huge nut to crack for an already expensive vacation. I think someone, ANYONE in the CS Dept should at least be able to explain how DCL arrived at this figure. But no, they are just gonna throw it out there, knowing I will pay it because the ship is sold out and for me it is a TOAL. :sad2:

I don't mean to sound like I think I am *entitled* to special treatment and each of these things in and of themselves could be overlooked. But, I am starting to think DCL sees me as a customer that they can treat however they see fit and I will take it becuase I am addicted to what they offer. It is starting to take on some of the qualities of an unhealthy relationship. Sorry, don't mean to sound so dramatic :rotfl: , but I think you know what I mean.

What DCL is forgetting is there are some great cruise ships out there right now that are getting better feedback (including the kids clubs) than DCL. Unlike WDW/DL we do have choices that are compareable.

OK, jumping off the soapbox.....for now

My only concern with a shared shuttle/bus is the possibility that luggage may not fit. Since we will all be packed for 2+ weeks, we need to be sure that there is enough room for all of the luggage. Perhaps we should explore....

Brendan and I are at the HoJo. We would definately be interested in sharing a ride with others! When the time comes around we will be in for that!

Hi,
Both Juie & I are researching this - iin fact, I delegated this to my daughter - she works in a High end entertainment law firm & she has a TA contact to find buses from DL to the port for us.
But, we're waiting until Jan '08 to begin negotiations - and will likely have a more accurate head count by then.
But - the price will be much more affordable than the DCL transfers from the early $ quoted. (the buses looked like tour buses to me rather than the small airport shuttle type bus) :)

Cool! It will be great if this works out - both for saving money and starting to meet our DIS friends on the ride to the port! :thumbsup2

Hey all! Hope everyone is having a good day. Got the letter about the extra $100 fee. That stinks. Well that's an extra $200 for us.

We got our letter, too. Rack up another $300.00 for the cruise.
