Hey! Its the Pirate Lawyers!!!! Arguing the Code!!

On the contrary.... if we can validate the savings with power generation data - then the solar array will ADD RESALE VALUE to our home. And since I have the CAT 5 hookup and software suite for monitoring - then IF the system works to reduce our current bill by 75% (system rated at 485 kWh generated of the 555 kWh of average monthly use over the past 12 months = 87% ... and I am hoping to achieve 75% $ reduction.). And considering that the first reduction of expense goes against the HIGHER priced tiers of power - I am more likely to exceed the percentage generated with the money percentage saved. Except - a portion of our bill is allocated to flat hook up fees.... so if we achieve 80% power generation capacity as promised - then we will achieve 90%+ $$$ savings against the portion of our bill which is attributable to power consumed. Thus... we hope to have elimenated 75-80% or more of our current $1200 annual bill. We know we're a small energy consumer - which makes this even harder to justify - but onthe other hand it is more affordable on a comparative scale to say a home that uses twice our power and needs an array twice as costly.

So, If we end up saving about $900-1000 (++ over time) a year - which is what I'm hoping for... then our resale value is increased by a multiple of this - say no less than 10 years of savings = about $9-10,000 in 2007 dollars. Plus we will have already recovered many years of savings or payback by the time we ever sell our place. So - if the system is anywhere near what is represented in performance - then we should be just fine. I think I must sound like a broken record with my "hopes" on this.

In addition to the $ saved and recoverable in a resale - we would offer the intangible benefit of a GREENER home... which is a plus in liberal California.

Of course, we DO plan on staying put while our kids are in school. And THAT does not hurt our decision to install the solar array.

My head starts spinning when I read this analysis (anyone else). Translated, you think you will save money on energy and increase resale value of house combined in excess of cost of installation?

My fare is a little over $10k; since we booked on Jan 31st with everybody else even if I had the entire amount I wouldn't give it to DCL 16 months in advance. Minus the deposit that $8k earns more interest in my account than DCL's.

For us paying the entire amount up front makes no sense (I guess until today) but it doesn't seem fair to only penalize those who are smart with their money.

Hey there, Jeff!!! Hope everything is going well with you and yours. :goodvibes

Hey there, Jeff!!! Hope everything is going well with you and yours. :goodvibes

It would appear that I have been found out. All is well, we just got back from our first DVC trip at BWV. It was lots of fun.

Although I don't expect to be able to keep up with the crowd we are starting to get exciting again and can't wait to fly to CA, visit DL again and get back home to what Sarah refers to as "Her Ship".

We didn't sail the Magic this year for the first time in 5 and we miss her a lot. 08/08 can't come fast enough for us.

I hope all is well with you Lisa. I see from a recent post by Crash that you lead the pack with almost 5k posts. :cool1: Wow! You have been busy.

The short version of that answer is yes. Generally (if you spend over $75/mo in electricity) you can expect to amortize the cost of a PV system over about 10 years. Anything after that is gravy.

Hi all

I am Sarangel's other half and I wonder if on of our UK folks could drop me a PM cause I have a question and maybe a favor to ask.

I will now resume lurk mode

I just needed to check out a post and saw the new ID, stopped and read the post and figured that it had to be you and your other ID must have given you a hard time. :) What's funny about that total is that I stopped posting to this thread about 2 weeks ago or so and am still up there. LOL! I have been working 80+ hours a week with a new home business and just do not have the time anymore. Besides, when I am not typing after those 80+ hours I really don't want to be on the computer much.

Good Morning Everyone :goodvibes
I didn't have time to get back on here last night. Good reason though, We finished our puzzle within a puzzle.:cheer2: :cheer2: Yes Brooke helped and even Dante with 2 pieces.:rolleyes1 I don't think his work will show through though.:rotfl2: Here is the pic. of it. Hope you can see all the detail, it was really hard. Off to post office, bank and frame shop to get puzzle framed to be put in our bedroom. I will ketchup :surfweb: later. Tina
Puzzle001.jpg

I am currently working on that same puzzle at our place in the poconos. It is a hard one.

Great Job!!!

I thought you'd guys get a kick out of these. I've been getting us organized for our WDW trip in a few weeks. Spending money for the kids is always an issue.

To keep the "I wants" down we give the boys their own spending money. Actually, it's their own money - but we do limit the amount they can spend on the trip. OK, this is DS5's (turns 6 on Thuesday) first time with his own money.

I don't mind DS10 carrying around cash - if he looses it, it's a life lesson. But DS6 is too young to carry cash - yet he needs a way to know how much he has left to spend. Something he can count.

So, Bank O Dad Bucks have been born... (sized to fit 6 to a page)

Disney Dollars - yeah, we've tried them, and discovered that DS10 is a tightwad. He didn't use even half of his money, leaving us with Disney Dollars, and only limited ways to spend them. These are better for us - the boys can use them anywhere. (So, long as mom or dad are around to convert them to USD! :rotfl: )
