Got home and looked at the mail and DCL sent my son a link to a questionaire. Funny, everyone gets mail but DH who paid for everyones trip. He is starting to think there is a conspiracy against him. I really have to laugh about the whole thing. We are still waiting for his CC card Guess I will have to call yet again to see where it is. Did anyone else get the card?

Yep, we got three new CC cards, they arrived several months ago.

OK... I am now caught up to my last posting from last nite - only about 130-135 past postings I think at last glance covered so far. I'm suddenly getting tired and dizzy eyed (as sugested above) as it is now 2AM Honolulu time - and a bit late for me with California time at (!) 5AM. I was hungry though - so I've been snacking as I surfed the DIS - and priced air fares for our upcoming thing in December to Fort Lauderdale. I got an email on a United fare sale tonight - but the "reduced" prices are not so hot. It's still coming up at $316 or so on the days of interest to us with UAL. And if we were to take jet Blue or Delta we could get $250 or $236! And that's $320 too high for the four of us if we flew United versus Delta!

THanks for letting us know you're OK... i saw the waves on the news and was worried.

It actually was VERY WINDY on tuesday evening. And on Oahu we did not see much in the way of waves - or at least I did not notice the waves much. But we did have pretty high winds and rain tuesday.

Have a very safe trip home!!! I heard it will just go past the Southern portion of the Big Island.

Yup... woke up yesterday expecting to see rain and high winds - especially since the evening before we departed everyone was bracing for a heavy storm on Oahu - but wednesday was a BEAUTIFUL morning. well... there were light sprinkles with some medium rain inland. At any rate... the morning news was saying the hurricane sort of "petered out" as it struck the Big Island, and now it's "center" was south of the Hawaiian chain and some sort of lower catagory of intensity.

Just the same, thanks for the safe travel thoughts.

Thank You Shelly, I missed everyone here too. My connnection was really BAD on Oahu. FOr the most part where I could "borrow" internet access (free) the service (DSL) was erratic and ... really, intolerable. So I am happy to be home again with good and fast connections!

I'm a little late, but wanted to wish a safe journey. Have FUN!!!!

I don't know about a earthquake or landslide... but we did have an exciting fire behind our home a few months back (no damage to any homes though) ... and they seem to be having some fires on Oahu. AND.. of course, mow we're back home and I have a good internet connection again. My spouse was wolfishly quipping I'd finally be able get my internet time in - and do away with the withdrawal pangs I've been sufferring from! <chuckles> So - I'm beginning to wonder if I have possibly missed some news on Earthquakes or landslides in our home town/region during our absence???

At any rate - I'm just beginning to look back over what I've missed these past 2 weeks on the DIS. It looks like about 10,000 postings for me to go back over... hmmm.... Maybe I'll post a few replies as I go "ketchup" - but otherwise I'm gonna try to JUST catch up mostly for now. Thus minimumize the groundhog effect fer the most part!

Besides... The next few days are gonna be pretty busy as we get caught up on an already lengthy laundry list of things that gotta get done in the next couple of days (off the DIS)! So many things to do now that we're back!

I know one guy who retired from DOD to collect his pension but came back into the office after a weeklong vacation wearing a Raytheon badge...doing the exact same job for more money and better benefits!

Oh DH is having that problem right now. The guy he replaced retired from the CG one week and came back to work in the same office as a GS-13/14(ish) and kept not only all of his projects, but his office as well. We're certainly not rich, but it would make you sick to know the amount of $$ DH is making to sit in a cube and read manuals for the last 3 weeks.

Kristina,I am so glad not everyone will be wearing a tux.Dh says a tux is for proms(which he took me to in high school) and weddings. He will be wearing one in February when my son trys one more time to get the right woman.

How cool, my DH took me to prom too!

As for the tux...I'm not pushing it right now. DH wants to rent one - black coat for one night and white for the other. Menawhile Esteri and I are devising "Operation Arm Candy". I just love it when he wears his Dinner Dress Blues.

Plus I'm cheap (ahhh, frugal) and we don't have to rent anything if he wears his uniform. The only real down side is packing the stupid hat.

We've got a busy couple of days ahead of us- preparing to go camping (near scuba dive lake here in Texas but a few hours from us) and Jeff is going to scuba dive with the Christian Divers of Texas this weekend. But unless we have some "issues", I should still be able to get online because I chose an RV park for us to 'camp' (hardly can call it camping in the luxury of the travel trailer- right?) that has things for me and the kids to do while he's scuba diving about 5mi away. Pool, spa, basketball court, fishing at the lake right there, tennis court, even a fenced area for pets to get exercise (yes, we're taking Tramp with us!) -- but also it has free DirecTv (that means kids can watch cable instead of just watching DVDs on the tv the entire time. Yeah-- disney Channels to keep them entertained late in the evenings!) AND it has free wifi. So I'll be bringing our laptops.

Can you still actually call that camping??

I'm glad DD's schedule finally worked out. What a pain in the add.
I remember my senior year of HS, Dance Team & AP English were at the same time & both were only offered once a day. Well, 3 of the 11 kids in AP English were dance team girls. Our parents pitched a fit when an administrator told us to choose one. The English teacher actually even said something along the lines of: "We just didn't think dance team girls would be in AP..."

Yeah, it got fixed...

Today I went to get Ruby's schedule (8th grade/middle school) and they had her schedule ALL messed up.

Luckily my dd's looks good and they have her in health first quarter; gym 2nd quarter. With her foot/ankle being messed up, i don't know how long she'll need this stupid brace thing.

But not only that- they put her in cheerleading and athletics as her 2 electives- they took her OUT of band and she's 1st chair wind ensemble this year! No way jose! (she would like athletics but she's not giving up cheerleading or band and they can only have 2 electives, one has to be either athletics, PE or cheerleading).

It happens...My dd had to choose between Spanish 2 last year and all her other preferred electives. Her MS had 2 periods each day where everyone took electives so it really limited what you could get.

And how is PE an elective?...IMO that should always just be a required class.

OMG I would faint if we could get tickets that cheap!
DFW to MCO usually costs us in the $300-350pp range!
I was looking for "july" dates (similar to what Aug will be- since Aug isn't a date showing on there yet) and for one way to CA and then from MCO to DFW it's going to be about $250 total... if the prices are the same as now. And I was considering that a bargain considering how much we usually pay for DFW to MCO roundtrip!
With 5 of us- we probably could most definitely drive cheaper -but it takes too much time to drive, stressful with kids, etc.
I WAS considering asking if there is a way to rent a vehicle one way to Ca from Tx... then just fly home (because we have plenty of time to get there in the summer, especially if DH flies in later because he might need to work while we're in DL- but on the return flight we need to hurry to get them back to school). Is there such a thing? I have no idea if rental car companies allow you to take one from Tx and drive to Ca and drop it off there?

Car rentals - start looking now, and book best price you can find. You can cancel without incurring cost, so if you find a better price, book that then cancel original. mousesavers has a bunch of codes that can get you a better rate if you are willing to do some work. I have found that Breezenet gives a good snapshot of rates (without discount codes) but I usually can beat the rate with some work.

Airfare - hard to compare right now as the best dates to compare flight out to LA are less than 14 days away and fares are skewed. Airfare will be coming on line in Sept. (see website for dates) and if you want to get best fares, pick your parameters (times/non-stop/etc. and price) and check daily and when you find something that fits, jump! The weird thing here is that we are essentially booking 2 one way flights that will come on line about 3 weeks apart. I find that for one stop shopping, Sidestep is a good snapshot. Orbitz has a "Deal Detector" that allows you to put in dates and fare and will txt or e-mail you when it finds it. Downside, it only does roundtrip flights, so not an exact science. Expedia has a fare alert tool that will do similar, but it downloads and sits on your computer (I don't like things you have to download).

PE is required here, but you don't receive credits for it. However, if you don't pass 31/2 years of gym, you can't graduate. There are plenty of students here that end up going to night school or summer school for gym.

Definitely... I am not a diver either, and he is always looking for a buddy to dive with, and I feel better if he goes with someone, especially in these ports and people he has never dove with. We have been to Cozumel 5 times, and he dives with the same operation, so I feel safe, they treat him (and us) like family. I think he has already been looking into dives on this trip, but as time gets closer I know he will get more serious. We did the Mexican Riviera in '05, so he dove in PV and Cabo. I will let him know about Brendan. He will definitely be doing a couple of dives on this cruise, he really wants to dive Cartegena, so he can say he dove in South America.

BTW, when we were in PV in '05, the girls and I did the Canopy Tours de los Veranos. I highly recommend it!!!! It was one of the most awesome experiences of my life, and it was worth every dollar. My youngest DD, who rarely has a smile on her face (she is like the girl in the Carnival commercial ) had a smile that never left her face all day. We plan on doing this again, if anyone is interested, we could definitely go as a group, we will have a blast. It is great for the young and old, yes, I saw some grandmas up there too! The operation itself is very professional, I was a little nervous at first, but they made you feel extremely comfortable.

My youngest DD, who rarely has a smile on her face (she is like the girl in the Carnival commercial ) had a smile that never left her face all day. We plan on doing this again, if anyone is interested, we could definitely go as a group, we will have a blast. It is great for the young and old, yes, I saw some grandmas up there too! I now know more than I ever want to know about passports!!! All checks are cashed in Pennsylvania and from there your Passport Application can be routed to lots of offices throughout the United States. My application was just lucky enough to be sent to New Hampshire. When you call to inquire with the confirmation number from the internet,(this happens once the check is cashed) the agency can tell you where the application is being processed. Mine was in New Hampshire!! No one has any choice where or what office the application is sent to. The first girl was nice enough to tell me I should say I need it soon. After all I did wait 14 weeks before I started calling. Total time was 16 weeks and that is only because I was calling!!!

Wow! The guys at the post office I used said it would go to Chicago. When they came it was postmarked Chicago. That was back in 2005. When I was having issues with dd's bc he tried to call his contact in Chicago, but he wasn't in. Everything worked out anyways. It was just a pain.

I didn't need my marriage license when I applied for my passport, I just used bc and driver's license. Also several years ago when we started cruising and needed our bc, I ordered 2 copies of each one. It has always just made me feel better
