Well Roger, since you are at work, can you answer a pharmacy-related question? :stir: :rolleyes1

Do you know anything about Chantix? DHs doc very highly recommends it as a wonderful cessation tool without all of the nasty side effects of Zyban. Just wondering....

Also, if there are any 'reformed' smokers out there who were able to quit, please share how you were able to achieve such success!!! :)

Karen, I used Wellbutrin (Roger correct me if I'm wrong but I think the same thing as Zyban). It worked like a miracle for me and I've been pretty much smoke free for 8 years. I've only lapsed a couple of times and it was while having a drink (or 2 or 3;) ) and I had a few but the next day I was not interested in smoking another.

My MIL has a saying for this....

"They come by it honest."
:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Love ya!:flower3:

I think it skipped a generation in our family - neither DH or myself are really big talkers (hey, typing is different!) but my DS talks a blue streak! I have actually asked him to please try and be quiet for just one minute :lmao:

First of all she got the information from loyal friends who do have access to your site. See you assume it was all Lisa.. It was alot of us who have been here from day 1 and didn't want to see this thread reduced to this childish gibberish that happens when you guys just can't let it go.....

And second if both sites are setup up to share information then whats the big issue with other people using discounts found on your thread...

Hi DH Chrisva - I posted on this thread VERY early on is there a reason you don't like me or are trying to attack me? I think that's against the rules.

Why does it matter who posts where? I don't own the other board, it's not "MY SITE" so LET IT GO. I've asked you nicely, my friend Erin has asked you nicely, why can't both exist? You could join there - it's open to anyone and very few are ever banned. I didn't realize when I joined there I would ever have to pick between there and the DIS. DIS is where I have met so many amazing LIFELONG friends, I don't want to lose that, but I won't be picked on for no reason other than association.

I gave my information to Lisa for the website, I received the first emails, I received the spam email, I did not have my information transferred to tom31b... wonder why .... I've not posted a mean thing on the "other site" about the DIS. I have friends here - lots of them - and was looking forward to getting to know many of you on this next cruise. Unfortunately I don't have 3 hours a day to read this thread and keep up - it's long and doesn't have a lot of cruise information yet so no, I don't post a lot to it... but I read when I can.

Have a great cruise next year!

When I quit 19 years ago I just quit. I kept busy and did not go any where there would be people smoking. The first few days are very hard then it goes to just the triggers like right after eating or driving. If you know when the desire is going to be the strongest you can prepare yourself. If you can get through the first month you will not regret it. Try not to replace it with food as that is were the weight gain comes in. Pick up a new hobby ot something that dose not involve eating. Good Luck, it can be done if you want it bad enough. Lois

Thanks for the tip. Both DH and I have tried it. However, for me, Wellbutrin jumped my blood pressure by 20 points. :scared1:

Thats so funny you guys are talking about this ...I am looking at my prescription of Chantix right now ...Its all set for me when I come back from the Med so I can get myself smoke free ...I am currently down to 1/2 a pack a day on my own and didnt want to be completely smoke free before we went to the med cause I here smoking over there is more so and I didnt need that extra stress ....So whe we get back I will start taking the Chantix and hopefully be smokefree be the end of September ..

Thanks Lois. Nowadays, it isn't really all that hard to avoid smoking places. It's banned just about everywhere. We've personally banned smoking in the house for years, as well as the cars when DD is with us. Another big trigger for me is talking on the phone. Oops...did I just give away where DD gets her babbles from? Now I just have to spend more time occupying my hands with things like typing. :)

That is similar to how I quit, but I did it on vacation so I was completely out of my routine for the first week. That was over twenty years ago! But I don't think I was as good as you about the food...

Not good!!!!!!!!!

BTW - I completely forgot but on my last day of smoking I forced myself to smoke like a fiend! I smoked so much that by bed time I was sick of smoking and didn't want to look at another cigarette!

Good luck with the Chantix!

I guess I'd just have to say that I must not be motivated enough yet.
I know that it would be easier, in this day and age, to not smoke....let alone the health benefits...but I've tried Wellbutrin, the gum, the patch (irritated my skin badly), hypnotism and...what else???
So when I do finally fill that prescription (my date to do so was after I got back from my Mom's....I'm baaaack) I hope it really can help.

[edited out for length]

Umm... Could you possibly have made this a PM instead of sharing with all of us?

I am fast approaching 15,000 (and now you know why I'm a Blabbermouth) so I've been thinking and thinking about my "profound" statement. Where's Lil'Grumpy when you need him??

You have to be the one who is ready. All those things are there to support you. But it is really something that is not just physical, but mental and lifestyle. So it involves so many changes. But when you are ready, let us know and we will cheer you on!

:wizard: to everyone facing the fight to quit smoking!!!!:wizard:

:woohoo: may you be successful and "smoke free" in no time!!!!:woohoo:
