In the last 20+ years of visitin' the islands we've mostly stayed with family. Our objectives have always been familiy oriented so it worked - we save money and had a much more efficient time of seeing everyone.

On this occasion we're just concentrating our time with a few special people - so on this occasion a near by hotel like the one we've choosen works best. Especially since we now have 2 kids who are a bit active at times.

Otherwise - the hotels we've liked include the Lani properties, the Ritz on Maui and the JW M at Ko Olina. Been to all of these hotels 1-3x each and they're all nice for mildly different reasons.

HNLQKAP_M01.jpg

The hotel we're in this time though is a 1st for us - the QUEEN KAPIOLANI ... a cheaper one with a location that fits our specification precisely ( a block from the folks we want to visit with and it's beach front AWAY from the main touristy beaches - and across the street from the zoo - plujs it was a bit of a bargain too... so we thought we'd try it. We know there are few true bargains out there - so we're prepared to accept the modest accomidations we're paying for. On the other hand - some of the trip advisor remarks say the hotel is a raging bargain! So - who knows, eh??? :confused3

That's in our nature - we like to try new things within a narrow rage of familiarity when possible.

Kev and I hope to get there someday.pixiedust:

We can decide as a group as to what people want to do. I am easy going....

Have a great trip.:woohoo: I will get in touch with you about the SM when you get back.:)

I wouldn't expect anything less from a pirate: Hey at least I was thought of.:rotfl2: That's always a good feeling.

No problem, I could start a list or we could come up with a special little thing to put on your door if you want fish mail?
Not to :stir: anything...............we could do this through PM if people feel more comfortable.

I can go any way the wind blows So whatever easiest, doesn't matter to me. :)

My DH ( Chuck ) will be turning the big 50 next July............the 26th to be exact and he doesn't think we should celebrate his b-day on cruise because it's past..............I have news for him.:rotfl2:

That'll be a perfect time to celebrate!! It's just after our 29th anniversary.

we booked for the 1st time (this time) with Pleasant Hawaiian - and usually we shop it with Orbitz - but always fly United as we concentrate all our flights with them for the frequent flyer benefits. From Spencer I don't know the nearest airport and all - but you'll know whos' best to fly out to the west coast.

When you do get around to jetting out to Hawaii - look us up and we'll provide some "local" pointers for tips on places to eat, visit and what-ever that suits your interests if ya like. Plus if ya need any eye surgery I can refer a family member on Oahu or Maui. Maybe even get you a DISCOUNT.... <chuckles>... provided you're willing to bring them something neighborly from OK. Well... I should not really be negotiating for other folks without thier consent.

HoffHammerTime.gif

At any rate - Hawaii is pretty easy to do - IMO - and the only thing - most folks wanna see some of the unspoiled side of the islands - and that takes a little doing. Ya gotta get out away from Honolulu / Oahu for the most part - unless you're like us and happy to drive 20 minutes to nearly unoccupied beaches for that kind of "fix".

Anyways - I've seen pleasant Hawaiian advertised deals at about $500-600 or so pp with air and hotel at certain times of the year. Certainly not NOW in the peak season - so if you figure out what air from Spencer to LA runs then you might have an inexpenxive trip to "paradise".

cycle020.gif

Aside from that - I got the picture of Kev with the little critter thorugh our usual spy agents. Below and at the top are a couple of images we got while he was not looking... or rather - I think it's Kev unless I mixed up our files again! Odd how the image of the rider at the top has little resemblenace to the fellow below... ???

We went to Maui before kids and had a great time.
We stayed at the Kea Lani suites and villas. That was a gorgeous hotel. I swear 100 people could fit on our lania.
We took a trip over to Lania that was beautiful. I made the mistake of actually going in the water there. I saw fish and could not have flown any faster to get out of the water. I really dislike water! Hence my tag. I prefer to forget I am even on water when I cruise. I like inside cabins for that reason. Once I was on the beach I was good and could admire the spinner dolphins etc from afar which was fine w/ me.
The funniest thing I thought about Hawaii is how many mesquite trees and cactus' there were there. I felt like I was back in W. Texas. Turns out we were on the dry side and it did have a lot more lush spots.

............My poor MiL has to call her neices and tell them what happened to their Dad. If anyone had to give them news like that, it was good to hear from their Aunt whom they were very close to. But extaremely hard on my MiL.
There was 1 daughter they could not reach. My DH went to a conveniece store to get his Mom something to drink since she is devastated and the 3rd DD was there. Here she sees her cousin who lives 2 hours away in her town. DH had to be the one to tell her and she just fell apart. Poor Bill.
Anyway it was a train track that had a stopped train on it so he drove around and there was another train coming. Killed him instantly, thankfully.
Just a horrible situation except every one agrees he would have wanted to go quickly and not gotten sick and lingered.
Not to be a downer but what a bizarre coincedence.

Oh, my! What a coincidence! :sad2: Prayers for all involved!

Well Butter my buns and call me a biscuit Happy Early 45th Birthday!! I'll hit the Big 5-0 this year myself.

Thanks! :) I already got my present from dh and the kids. A *tin cup* necklace! I had one that dh bought abou t6 yrs ago that youngest dd accidently broke off my neck when she was a toddler. It was/is my *everyday* necklace. So, I am BIG time happy! :goodvibes

Mike, if there is a problem we will hold clinical rotations on the Magic. We have 3-2nd year interns, 2-4th year interns doing clinical rotations and 2 residents currently in our hospital. You name the kind of rotation that you need and I will give you a months worth of knowledge. You get your rotation and vacation and I get (oh, did I forget to mention my price for preceptorship :smooth:) rum.

This offer made me teary. (Could just be in a mood today). But they way we come together for each other is amazing. And to think that we've all got such varied backgrounds that there is always someone around that can provide the needed knowledge. I feel truly blessed to be a part of this group.

good afternoon everyone!! hope you all are well. this has been a busy week here, and i'm exhausted already! it's only tuesday!!! ugh! ds has 4 all star games this week, and i'm about sick of them. i try to stay positive, but this team is not a team...they are a bunch of whiners!! there has not been a game yet, that the pitcher hasn't stood on the mound in tears..it's ridiculous! and he is the coach's kid, so they kinda cater to him. then the catcher decides he should start slamming and cussing out every one else on the team. i have just never seen a mess like this...and they are supposed to be the best players in the league??!!! i can't wait til the season ends.
thanks for letting me vent!

Can't wait for a trip report. On my last few trips I was contemplating this hotel. But then circumstances changed and each time I've been able to upgrade by splitting the cost with friends.

But if I get back to Honolulu I'll probably give the Queen Kapiolani a try. Honestly I'm ready to try some of the other islands though. Honolulu reminds me too much of San Francisco. Too touristy and not enough beauty left.

DH & I are working on getting to all of the Hawaiian Islands... We've been to the Big Island & in October we're going to Kauai. Next on the List is Oahu, since DH wants to do Pearl Harbor.

The problem is that we try to do two trips a year - Disney & somewhere else. This year it was WDW & Kauai, next year we burn our two weeks doing the cruise, the year after that it's WDW & Victoria, BC... I haven't gotten to 2010 yet, but maybe Oahu is on that list.

Hi everyone!
I had a very good and very bad weekend.
We spent the weekend in a town about 3 hours away for my sides family reunion. Had an absolutely wonderful time!
For the 1st time my MiL had come to my family reunion. She had traveled w/ my extended family before so my family asked her to come. She had a lot of fun too.
On the way back from the reunion we were caravanning w/ 4 cars back to Dallas. My MiL's sister and her family had lived in this very small town (pop 700) between Dallas and Abilene (where the reunion was). My MiL wanted us to stop in this town to have lunch at this one place she said was very good and since it was only 5 miles off the road, we went.
While we were waiting for our food, my 2 neices (age 18 and 16) went to look around. My oldest neice came back and said she had trouble getting back to the restaurant because a train was stopped that was not there originally. Then she told us there was someone was hit by the train a block away. We thought "how terrible". Then the waitress asks to see my MiL at the front of the restaurant. Turns out her BiL was the one hit by the train. It apparantly happened right after we got there. MiL and DH run to the scene and turns out the body was still on the ground, etc. Horrible!
My poor MiL has to call her neices and tell them what happened to their Dad.
Poor Bill.

How very sad! I'm so sorry for you & your DH's family! My thoughts go out to you all! :grouphug:

Morning.. just a quick hi before I start work..

We went to a wedding Saturday at the Oak Brook bath and tennis club. The ceremony was outside and very nice. It was set near a small lake and was just beautiful with the tress and the lake. When we walked in to the section that the ceremony was to be held, everyone got a little box. The box had a butterfly and at one point in the ceremony we all released our butterflys. It was amazing to see. The reception was inside the club house and was very nice. To start we had fruit on a skewer with a drizzle of a while creamy sauce. YUMMY!! Then came the salad and the entree was a chicken stuff with creamed spinach and a filet plus carrots and zucchini for veggies and a little pototo things. It was way too much food but very delicious. I gave my filet to Eric. He ate both filets and some of his checken. Geoff ate his dinner and some of Eric's chicken. Scott ate my pototos and I ate Eric's veggies.. The DJ was great and we danced and talked with Scott's family and had a wonderful time.

Yesterday, I did some errands. Went to Coldwater Creek for their 70% off sale but it didn't open til noon and so i went to Home Depot and got some LGMH for our trip in a week and 1/2..

So - I was curious and found these images of the Bath and Tennis club.
Was this the place?? It looks like a very nice place to tie the knot!

Wow Shannon what a coincidence! During my DS's game last night the pitcher on the opposing team (also the coach's son) was also in tears & even left the mound at one point to have a complete melt down. Every time the umpire yelled "Ball!" he would growl, and when the batter walked he was completely sobbing! Mind you these kids are all 10 to 12 y/o so we are not talking kindergarteners here. They ended up beating my DS's team and one of their team mates, instead of shaking hands in line after the game, ran through with his fingers in the air saying, "Ha ha we won!" Where's the sportmanship? This was just a regular game. We're not even in the playoffs yet! :sad2:

diane, that is what frustrates me soooo much! there is NO sportsmanship in these games...and noone does anything about it. this is my ds's first year on the all star team. after the first game of the season, he came out of the dugout looking very down. he had just struck out and made the last out of game. he looked ok when he walked away from the plate, so i didn't understand why he looked so down afterwards. well, he told me that 3 of the kids...FROM HIS OWN TEAM...threatened to beat him up cuz he made the last out. the one was the whiny pitcher! my ds is not a fighter, and i think he was a bit scared! i was ticked!! dh went and talked to the coach, but it does no good. i'm normally a pretty quiet person, and i try to keep my mouth shut as to not make waves...but this is my kid...and noone messes with my kids!!! i've finally started speaking up and running my mouth to the parents, telling them that if the coach won't speak up, we need to. the kids need to learn the right way to play. they are a team...and they need to back each other up...not beat each other up! ugh!! they are gonna be passed right thru this league, and expect to get away with it in older leagues. it has to stop! one of the players dad's went to the fence and started yelling last nite, cuz the pitcher and catcher from our team were once again arguing with each other. he started telling the coach it was time to step in and yank them both off the field. his whiny pitcher son remained on the mound, but he put a diff catcher in!! 3 more games this week, and 2 tournaments...then we are done! it won't come to an end soon enough!!

Wow how LUCKY...

... I've been chomping at the bit to visit Kauai - and have yet to get there. We don't have family to visit there so when-ever we're in the state we tend to spend time near family because... well ... we're there.

... as for Oahu - prepare yourself for the BIG CITY... Hawaiian style. Plus plan on spending some time at the Battleship Missouri and the submarine museum there too. If ya look at the Missouri web site they have better tours (EG., Petty officers') and such which I felt were worth the money. But I am a bit og a historical enthusiast for things like this. Also - better to go early - really early on account of the sun.

bb-anim.gif

Anyways - you're still in the planning stages for the visit - so I'll just say you're gonna have a grand time on Oahu! Vacationinf any place in the islands is better then sitting in traffic or at work on a friday afternoon, eh?

Thank You all for the Bday wishes!!!!!!!

I missed chat again :sad2:
I forgot we had Cubscout night at the SI Yankee game (farm team for the yankees)
Saturday we were in the city most of the day went to see the Gazillion Bubble Show (off broadway show). It was really cool. Spent Sunday and Monday down the Jersey shore, my g-frnd rents a house on the beach every summer so we just chilled. I will be going back BY MYSELF (YAY) for Thurday and Friday. DH and the boys leave for cubworld tomorrow until Saturday. We have my neices christening Sat afternoon also.
Its great to be on Vacay for 2 whole weeks. But there is just so much to do.
Ran around doing errands this morning. Will be heading out shortly to do some more.

In between all of the above had to shoot down to Mom & Dads. Dad is in hospital again with congestive heart failure and they started him on dialisys (spelling??) They new that was coming but were hoping it wouldnt have been so soon. But hes doing well. Should be home tomorrow.

Since I'll be coming home fom the shore agin Friday night, hopefully I'll make chat.
