Happy Friday! It's a really happy Friday for me, since I'm looking at 5 days off! Gotta do some work during that time and a dentist appt, but least I can go at my own pace.

Looking forward to chat tonight. Will have to bow out around 10PM to watch the local fireworks. We are lucky we just go across the street to the school playground and watch. Most of them clear the trees.

Have a great day. Wonderful weather here, sunny and high of 78* low humidity.

From my limited dog show knowledge. I'll try to simply. I'm sure Esteri will add anything i leave out.

AKC breeds have a designation for pure bred dogs as champions ( CH gets added after their full registered name) (Kinda like Dr. after a doctor's name)

The designation itself means that your breeder gets bragging rights and that this dog also would be a good representative to breed for future litters. (also, puppies of champions tend to cost more.)

In order to get this designation, you attend AKC dog shows all over the country sometime.

At each sanctioned AKC match the winners of each breed catagory (they are divided by breed, then by age, then by male/female). The winners of the category your dog is in (i think 1st place only) gets a certain amount of champion points. Points are determined by the amount of dogs entered in that class in that particular show.

(i'm not sure of exact numbers but let me give you an example: Say a first place will get you 3 pts. You will need to place 1st in ten shows for your dog to earn its champion title (then you actually can compete as a veteran "i think")

Clear as mud?

She means half a champion because she was hoping to gain enough points to "finish" (ie get enough points for) it's champion title. Guess her dog only has half the number it needs right now.

Boy, and people complain about the math posts. :rotfl:

That seems really complicated. I always just assumed you were a 'champion' if you won a show.

Crash, ran across this on reddit today:

10 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE BUYING A SOLAR ELECTRIC SYSTEM

http://www.organicpicks.com/php2/solar_system.php

Thanks JR... at first glance I already knew most of the stuff - buit I have not read it all yet.

EDITED IN: Interesting... I need to look carefully at the shade obstructions here - as well as study the SCE power plans that were just introduced on June 20th. It obviously makes a difference - as I must factor the inflation adjusted cost of a replacement inverter in 15 years. Something I had not figured into matters - and I'm now examining the authors solar blog spot - but must step away now as we're departing late this morning for our trip.

Since I had to change my ID for chat my post count is too low to send a PM. I must have missed the original post about the August meet at Wilderness Lodge. DH and I will be down Disney that weekend and would love to meet some of our fellow cruisers. As soon as my post count is high enough I'll PM darthrugby.

Barbara

Barbara it's at WL on the 25th and I believe Pete was going to start at 1pm.

Depending on whether or not I have the grandkids will determine what time we show up..

Good Morning!:surfweb:

Happy Friday to all.

Crash - I talked to MR last nite and she says hi. She has been very busy with graduation and getting ready for her
4th of July party( come to think of it did we get invitations?). Well anyway she will try to make chat tonite otherwise she should be getting back to her "normal" schedule after next week.

I'll be driving til when-ever today - leavin' the house near 10 - but actually not blowin' town til maybe 3. We're hooking up with another family which is riding with us .... that in part requires we wait til 2-ish. SO we're gonna see some traffic on the way out. I estimate we'll be driving more or less til 8-10PM. So - you folks be good in chat tonite! Please convey my good tidings to the STs!!! Should they make another guest appearance....

I borrowed my nephews' DSLR for the weekend. Mine is still broken as I'm waiting for the Canon 30D replacement to be announced in August. Then I'll decide which camera body to buy or fix.
So - maybe I'll wake up for a couple sunrises to shoot some photos? Or more likely we'll try for a couple of good sunsets to shoot a few memorable images?

Sorry I missed your call last night. I actually went to bed early for a change due to a raging headache. (I blamed it on DS13's "World Voices" performance -- just to make fun of him).

I too took a full nite to rest - on account of the drive ahead of me today...

We're staying in Mariposa - approximately 300.48 miles and only 4 hours 50 minutes... not conting friday traffic, potty/stretch and dinner breaks.

Thanx ... this is my last post til when-ever...

We have internet at the hotel - but it's just a plug in at the front office - ugh! We'll have other priorities obviously - so I may not return til monday -

I'd like to offer one and all good cheer, pleasant mornings and bountiful evening dinners this weekend!

Looks like I'm leaving right on schedule!

Adios!

Well we are winding down our “vacations”. Everyone but my sister has left us and Nathan seems to be back on a good nap/Im not going to be a brat schedule. We went to the Olympic training center and saw some of the athletes training. We didn’t see anyone worth kidnapping so no police action was needed for Mary. Yesterday we stuck around town and get some things done at the house like 10 loads of laundry! Nathan got so many clothes for his birthday it is very sad. The up side is that we had a new baby in the family so we will be able to pass along his wardrobe.

Today Mary, Nathan and I are off to the top of pikes peak. We are not driving since most people we have talked to have scared me to death about driving, besides there is still snow up on the mountain so I would rather not slide about! We are taking a train up and according to the site it will take us 3 hours and 10 minutes total for this little adventure. 30-40 of those minutes will be on the top of pikes peak which is a little over 14,000 feet. There are all sorts of cautions like watch the kids on the one side where the “bottomless pit” is. We are also only allowed the 40 minutes because that is about the time it takes for people to experience the altitude sickness. We should all be ok since we live at 7400 feet above sea level and Mary is pretty good shape! It is a clear day today so we should be able to see Denver from the top as well as the plains of Colorado and Kansas. I will have to send HC pictures to post since I have not figured it out yet.

pirate:ing!

And belated birthday wishes to everyone else whom I missed this week - hope they were all special!

So, I have posted in the past about my issues at work and deep concerns as to whether I will have a job in a few months and how I am worried about being able to pay for the cruise next year and how upset I was over not being able to take a vacation this year, and so what did I just go and do?

Booked 10 days at Port Orleans Riverside from August 14-23.

I just told DD5, 'we're sorry, we need to cancel our trip to Wisconsin Dells in August.' As tears began to form, she moaned 'Why?'. And I said, because we're going to be at Disney World that week. She stopped for a moment and then went "Disney World!!" with a huge smile on her face.

Have fun! We had surprisingly large entries in Weimaraners in Montana. It was a fun crowd though. And everyone got a piece of the action. We didn't have any dogs who dominated the circuit. It was nice. I'll post our win picture when I get it.

I hear what you're sayin. My mom has miniature horses (she doesn't show, they're just pets). And we went to a regional show one year, it's so darned political! You knew who was going to win as soon as they stepped into the ring. :worship: Even when their horse "acted up" they'd get the blue ribbon. It sucked.:furious:

NOT stupid!!! You love your family and want to spend special time with them! Wasn't that smile worth it? I think there are AP discounts during that time period; did you take advantage of that?
