Happy Memorial Day.

To those of you who have served, Thank You. To those of you who have loved ones serving, you and yours are in my prayers.

Well, I am glad I don't have to work today. It's been a great weekend. Weather has been super. Karen, I was at the beach Fri and yesterday. And yes, the water was a tad bit cold. I don't know how people can go all the way in.

Not sure what is going on today. I'm planning on seeing POC tonight. I went last night. Both of the ~7PM shows were nearly sold out. I decided to see The Waitress instead.

Thank you all for the camera information. I do want to get a new one. I have an Olympus Stylus p/s. It's great for taking dinner table shots. I'd like something a bit faster. I'm looking at a Canon S3 Powershot. Any other suggestions?

OK, I need more coffee.

Well...

... it's near 95 or so postings til the next "pirate"posting for 61,000th... and I don't know if I'll be lurking in wait for it. I'm just wandering around til I decide to turn in - having just had some kind of cat nap by the notebook and tv tonight.

So with that I bid you noble competitors for the 61,000th a happy bit of encouragement. I think I'll admit that while everyone else is having a few chuckles sprinting after the next mile marker I'll be like the little guy pictured below with the flotation ring at upper right... and catchin' a bunch of "Zzzzzz"s!

Good luck to the SWabbies !!! And - I need not offer encouragement to the Wenches as they'll likely sieze this one too... ;)

Good Afternoon from the UK.

Absolutely throwing the rain down here as usual.

Went to Ikea yesterday and when I got in after driving the 265 miles there and back promptly assembled what had to be put together. Helen's happy anyway ;)

Good Morning again..............:rotfl: Was able to fall back asleep around 5am and woke up about 30 minutes ago. A Memorial Day Parade will be going past our house between 10:30 and 11:00 this morning. We live on the main road, our township and the town next to us have a combined parade every year. I marched in this same parade 40 years ago when I was in the Boy Scouts. The end of the parade route is at the Red Bank Battlefield along the Delaware River where a wreath is tossed into the river remembering those who gave their lives serving our country. http://www.nj.searchroots.com/Gloucesterco/redbank.html

I'm not good with fancy cameras, but I did get the Canon Powershot S2IS last year and I have been pleased with it. I think it takes pretty good pictures, and there are a few options to play around with if you are brave! I checked the photography thread on the DISboards for more info before purchasing.

but is no longer in production

This is the one we have. My husband loves to take pictures when he is scuba diving. He liked it so well, he bought a second camera identical to the one we had so if anything goes wrong with the first camera, he will have a back up.

It may no longer be in production, but I think Jim has seen them on e-bay before. You can always look there.

I was thinking of going that route. Thanks.

This one is more affordable ($120ish) for the digital SLR realm, anyone want to try it out and let me know if it works before I risk my camera.....

Playing around:

Great shot!

I just can't imagine after the TOAL how many photo sites will be overloaded with all of us camera folk showing off the 6,000 or 7,000 pix we each took....

(Of course, where will I get the time to view them all, and I must view them all!)

I too have been thinking of getting a UW housing for my 10D .... however, I also spend insufficient time in or under water to justify the SERIOUS expense involved. HOWEVER, that does not stop me from trolling through ebay for the polycarbonate housings! And, as an alternative, I used to think the rubber or soft silicon bags like those pictured below were good "affordable" alternatives. Remember, I love to shoot at the beach - but the beach is a hazard for fragile DSLRs. I destroied my 300D when I splashed salt water on it by accident! I was carrying 3 children back after a little stroll fown the beach with them... and that means walking with one in each arm and a 3rd on my shoulders - making me pretty heavy with the burdon - so I was walking in the margin where the sand was "wet" for firmer footing. Well... sometimes the surf would do more then dampen the sand underfoot and I found my self splashing a little as I carried the 3 exhausted kids back toour spot on the beach.

WELL... I had my DSLR over my shoulder and on returning to our family spots on the beach I saw my DSLR dripping with sea water! Arrrgh! I knew what was coming. The next day my 10D died - and I had to rely on the pocket SD300 for the remainder of the cruise. I think we were on St Maarten when this happened.

So now I've DROPPED my 10D and have to send it in for potential service. If it costs too much to fix then I'll be without a DSLR until the replacement for the 30Dis announced. Whereupon I'll decide whether to get the full priced new model or go for one of the other old ones to shave a few bucks. I've spent so much for all my digital equipment I just feel like being pretty careful about how I upgrade. I now have a few lenses so I will be fixing or upgrading to a new body.

And in the mean while I am also looking for a cheap WP-DC30 UW housing for the SD pocket cam - and eventually a soft UW housing for my next DSLR to protect it near or at the beach.

OK... good nite folks! Best wishes to all on this somber Memorial Day....

Mental note to self, keep my electronics away from CaptainCrash

Good Morning again..............:rotfl: Was able to fall back asleep around 5am and woke up about 30 minutes ago. A Memorial Day Parade will be going past our house between 10:30 and 11:00 this morning.

We had a parade of sorts in our court this morning at 7am....

On it was ambulances/firetrucks/police cars/off duty cars/etc... Yeah Fredneck likes to put in a good showing every time there's an emergency call. So it sounded like they came around the corner and stopped on the side street..so i look out my back window by the bed and they had stopped in front of one of the neighbors. They had to take out the window to their english basement and then took both an older man and women (visiting parents...perhaps) on backboards into the two ambulances. Not sure what happened but what scared me the most is that the ambulances didn't seem too hurried to get to the hospital.

I hope they're ok.
