My last DCL (with the geeks) i had a mishaps at the end of our trip.

I checked in our birth certificates and then figured i didn't need them anymore so packed them to the depths of the luggage.

(The last couple trips i thought we only needed our DL's to get back into the country at customs)

Well low and behold the customs agent asked for our BC's too..(Whoops, i had no idea which suitcase they were in)

Now obvious my dd, dh and i all look American but i guess the agent could have given us a hard time....

Instead he just asked us all our city/state of birth and let us pass.

I feel better knowing I'm not the only one who does things like that;)
So much time and effort in the preparation and it only takes one small slip to cause some drama. I think I'll be checking our passports a million times after hearing this story though:sad2:

Since we are going on the Dolphin Encounter in Nassau and Castaway Cay I was quite concerned about cameras, water and sand. So I looked for an underwater housing for my camera but they stopped making them. Plan B, I found a line of waterproof bags that are for cameras with a clear front lense that you can shoot through. The camera is in the bag and you have to push buttons and make adjustment through the plastic but it works. I was willing to give it a try since it was only $34. The bag has a very easy 3 snap closure that is very easy to work and did a great job keeping the water out. I was so impressed that I ordered the one for my video camera. Water, sand and rain just don't mix with cameras. I got the first one at REI but later found a wide variety of them at Amazon. They make them for cameras, phones, IPODs and just general use waterproof bags. here is a picture except the one I got does not have the blue material but is entirely made of clear plastic. Forgot to mention that once something is in the bag it floats. No fear of camera sinking to the bottom.

This is going to be a must on excursions next year and may also help keeping the humidity out when we are down south.
Where did you get this? What brand is it?

I think that I covered this in my lengthy evaluation, but REI or Amazon. I think that if you go to Aquapac dot com they have a list of people that carry the product.

Hi Laurie! What a sad story, but I love seeing you post . . . brings back good memories of our cruise together and sometimes I forget we'll be doing it for 15 days next summer!

You'll be the first person that I've cruised with more than once:thumbsup2
Maybe we'll get some of those great servers that I keep hearing about;)
BTW
My family thinks I'm nuts getting so excited about the new castaway club cards that came in the mail:o Did you get yours yet ?

Tom - THANK YOU!   for showing us those pictures. They brought back some wonderful memories of a trip that didn't turn out as as I expected. HOWEVER, I did end up remembering many faces and these brought a smile to my face! :) Thank you for that.

On this trip, ( must admit I am not great at following up after a cruise and especially this one) I'd forgotten some of the activities but the people shots were fantastic - I now understand why you take so many.

Thanks again for showing and I was wondering if I may have your persmission to show this slideshow on one of my other threads. Not sure if someone has posted an image of fish extender. The shots you have are fantastic along with the door designs. That should kick off some wonderful ideas as we hvae serveral scrapbookers onboards.

Let me know.

Thanks

I'll send over my usual contract for limited non-commercial use of my images... a nickle a click per image except on odd numbered months when it's 14 pesos a click. <chuckles>

Please feel free to use the links anyway desired. And - if anyone wants any images I'd be happy to email a file or a handful. As stated - I had a whopping 6700 images - but they're all residing on a dead drive... which needs transplanting into a good drive assembly. And if not successful - then I'll be juggling a differnt game of sorts (and mumbling foul curses about Western Digital hard drives).

AND... my web site does allow purchase of images from the hosting site - and "I" get a cut which is defined by ME. And that;s for those who may NOT know that I offer a DIS neighbors' rate (FREE) for any who ask me directly.

At any rate - I am pleased to no end that my images brought you any happiness tonight! That is precisely why I post them. Oh yeah... if there is ANYONE who sees these and wants an image REMOVED from semi-public exhibition then all they have to do is ask me to. I DO NOT want registered mail from their counsel or a marshal serving me any notice at my door! <sobering chuckles>.... as if that's EVER happened.

Oddly enough, today at the birthday party I met a nice couple whom I had never spoken to before. If seems last year I responded to thier request for a copy of the class "fun" portrait I shot/donated to the school. ANd they complimented me on being one of the rare individuals who actually did what I said I would do ... (I ordered their framed portrait and sent a copies of the digital files ... for a voluntary donation. I donated the photo services, files and finished product). The folks seemed not only pleased that I followed thorugh b ut also seemed to genuinely CHERISH the images I delivered. The framed image was hanging prominantly in thier son's bedroom.... or something like that. Well... I just felt kind-a good to hear about their happiness in person.

OK.... back to my ketchup routine here....

Happy Memorial Day Everybody!!!

(even though I have to work, oh well. )

In anticipation of our upcoming trip to CC and rainy FL weather, I purchased a waterproof bag for my camera. I have always loved taking underwater photos and surely did not want to miss out on this on our upcoming vacation. Yesterday was a nice day so off to the pool to try it out.

Found that it was difficult aiming since I did not take my prescription mask with me so I could not see the view finder and what I was shooting at. Learned alot about settings though and can not wait until CC for some fishy pictures.

OMG! What a cool picture! This is so cool! :thumbsup2

Sorry, should have posted a PRICE TAG WARNING

Thank You! :cutie:

Just to really make you want it more....

Evil!

Double Evil!!!:scared1: :scared1:

Lets see I could buy a new DSLR and underwater housing or go on TOAL, I will stick to $34 bag for now.

Smart Man Roger- although keep in mind you started all this!!! :rotfl2:

Don't you know, I wake up in the middle of the night, sign on to say Good Morning, then the boards go down for servicing..................:rotfl:

Anyhoo.....we had a real bad thunderstorm go through our area last night. Hazel says, "At least we haven't lost our electric." Not two seconds after she utters those words, our electric went out. It was only out for about five minutes, but our cable didn't come back on, so after about a half an hour, I went off to bed. I sent a text message to Angelina telling her I said Good Night, which I knew she wouldn't get until after the concert was over, but at least she knew I was thinking about her.

Hazel saw the livingroom light on, so she came out a few minutes ago to let me know that she spoke with Angelina around 11:30 last night. Angelina said she had a "GREAT" time at the concert. She also said she was so close to the stage that she nearly started crying when Gwen Stefani came out, looked down and said, "You're so close, I can see your faces." :goodvibes

I'm sure I will get to hear more about the concert when we pick Angelina up later today.

Well...

... about 2 hours ago I noticed it was unusually quiet at our home. Usually when I eneter the kitchen our dog shows up at my elbow in a couple of heart beats. Well... I took a peak out front in the entry area and saw the front gate was ajar... then I checked the dog run and saw he was not there. SO I advised my spouse of dogs absence and I left to go look for him after dressing to a decent level.

About 35-40 minutes of circling the neighborhood slowly I was gonna turn in and call it quits when I saw a car stopped in fron of our home with its' lights on. It had just pulled up and I rolled my window down to chat - and a nice lady informed me that she had our dog. It was just about midnite and so I followed her car back to her place where she expalined that their garage door had been left open by accident that evening - and earlier her son heard the sound of a dog whimpering inside their garage. They found Sugar there after he had wandered in. And she had called us but I left my cell in the house and no one was awake to answer the house line when she rang that one. So as a last resort she drove over. I had forgotten to take my phone - and being so late I did not think anyone would have been awake to deal with Sugar.

So he's home now and in great spirits. He evidently sneaked out right past Alicia as she came IN. I still don't know HOW ON EARTH a 120 pound Samoyed can sneak out the front door and gate past my under 100 pound spouse as she came IN the door. But he did it!

Anyways... below is a photo from a few weeks ago of SUGAR in the bath tub. If you peer carefully you can see the water is not exactly clear....

And below is a shot from the end of the evening after the Wicked show. That's cousin and his oldest daughter with Alicia and Julianna. He just closed escrow on a home in Laguna Hills after coming down from Sacramento for a new job. We go back all the way to New Jersey where we fondly remember having flipped a swing set in their back yard! In any event, they all had a terriffic time at Wicked. It was better then they expected and they'd all like to see it again.

So - while they were at the show I took the little one exploring in West Hollywood and the Beverly Whilshire area. We walked a few stores and noted a few of the wild bars where there were just a bunch of men hangin' out - having freshly from their closets - so to speak. Eventually we ended up at the Beverly Center Macys' where we found a couple of matched pink polo shirts at about 80% off. It came to about $8 a shirt and we got them gift boxed (the free courtesy boxes). Then I rang my Dads' place again and found they were in. SO we drove over to hang out for a bit til it was time to pick up my spouse and daughter.

At any rate.... I'm gonna wander through the thread and web a bit now before I turn in... I have FIRST BLOOD with Rambo on ... he's taking out the sheriff deputies now and the army reserve troops are not involved yet.

TTFN!

Hi Everyone,
I'm looking for new luggage - is anyone familiar w/Heys ultra-lightweight? The hard case style.
And - for those of you who were touting "Crocs" - DD & I went on a shopping spree yesterday & bought them. They are soooo comfortable. You all were Right!
And, at Target we got DGS a POTC outfit for the TOAL - the merchandising was impressive - lots of stuff for kids.
We overdid it on our shopping - but siince I hate to shop I now have almost everything I'll need for both the Transatlantic & the TOAL!!
Hope everyone is having a wonderful holiday - MR glad you had a great time at Atlantic City.

I am a great fan of CROCS. they are so comfortable. I have 5 pairs now: black, purple, hot pink, royal blue and of course slime green!!! Between these and my bling Birkenstocks I am set for the summer!!

I too am paranoid about my passport and travel papers. Before I leave on a trip I check and double check that I have everything I need(I am sure this is a case of OCD). Even at the apirport I check and recheck.

My prize possessions are my US BC and my US PASSPORT. I am lucky to be an American!!!!

GOOD MONDAY MORNING EVERYONE!!:surfweb:

On this Memorial Day let us not forget why we celebrate this day.

I hope everyone has a pleasant day. It is going to be a "HOT HOT HOT" day here today in WMBG, VA. Mid 90's!!

I was listening to the weather forcast here and they just mentioned that the water temp at Va Beach is 59 degrees!!!

Does anyone know where do I go to read the reports from the Magic cruising the Med?

Stay cool and dry and those who have today off have a great one!!!

I fell asleep near the end of Rambo and woke up to the sound of a "girls gone wild" info-mercial... sigh. And I was about to run off to a real bed when last glances here gave me a reminder to post a gesture in honor of memorial day. I am not a veteran however I recognize this is much more than another simple holiday...

As always,
I respectfully fly a US flag in front of my home this time of year.

Hi Karen;

There are some good threads on the trip report board here, and the following is a link to a blog written by someone currently on the ship:

http://schiffyinthemed.blogspot.com/

This is the one for the Canon 30D

IK687130.JPG

which I found here

WTG Tom - I finally check in here just to see what's happening and what do I see: Just what I've been asking for since I got my own Canon 30D!!! SO I get all    . Decide to click on the link and did this: :faint: when I saw the price tag - I may have to wait a while on this. :guilty: I just don't go underwater that much to justify it even for frivilous me. :sad1:

I too have been thinking of getting a UW housing for my 10D .... however, I also spend insufficient time in or under water to justify the SERIOUS expense involved. HOWEVER, that does not stop me from trolling through ebay for the polycarbonate housings! And, as an alternative, I used to think the rubber or soft silicon bags like those pictured below were good "affordable" alternatives. Remember, I love to shoot at the beach - but the beach is a hazard for fragile DSLRs. I destroied my 300D when I splashed salt water on it by accident! I was carrying 3 children back after a little stroll fown the beach with them... and that means walking with one in each arm and a 3rd on my shoulders - making me pretty heavy with the burdon - so I was walking in the margin where the sand was "wet" for firmer footing. Well... sometimes the surf would do more then dampen the sand underfoot and I found my self splashing a little as I carried the 3 exhausted kids back toour spot on the beach.

WELL... I had my DSLR over my shoulder and on returning to our family spots on the beach I saw my DSLR dripping with sea water! Arrrgh! I knew what was coming. The next day my 10D died - and I had to rely on the pocket SD300 for the remainder of the cruise. I think we were on St Maarten when this happened.

So now I've DROPPED my 10D and have to send it in for potential service. If it costs too much to fix then I'll be without a DSLR until the replacement for the 30Dis announced. Whereupon I'll decide whether to get the full priced new model or go for one of the other old ones to shave a few bucks. I've spent so much for all my digital equipment I just feel like being pretty careful about how I upgrade. I now have a few lenses so I will be fixing or upgrading to a new body.

And in the mean while I am also looking for a cheap WP-DC30 UW housing for the SD pocket cam - and eventually a soft UW housing for my next DSLR to protect it near or at the beach.

2473_CanCaseWPDC30.jpg

OK... good nite folks! Best wishes to all on this somber Memorial Day....
