Today is my Mom's 80th birthday. WOW. As much as she drives me nuts sometimes she is awesome. She has so much energy and she still walks about 3 miles every day. As an example, she came over yesterday and did my ironing for me. Mind you it was from vacation, all those linen things. It took her almost 4 hours, so you know there was a lot. She probably went home and did yard work after or something like that. I really hope I am as healthy and young when I reach her age. I just want better hearing.
I have to work all day and evening so I won't get to see her today but I sent her a cute flower arrangement with a Gund Bear. Sorry Angelina, no Build a Bears.

Laura....your mom sounds like my grandma. My gram is 84 years old and as spry as can be. She lives on her own, still drives, she comes to all of the kid's activities, and she cleans and bakes like crazy. We are so lucky to have such amazing women in our lives! Happy Birthday to your MOM!

Tell Angelina to "break a leg' I think that is the correct term. Don't want to jinx her.

Have fun!!!

Thanks!!! Will do, now I've got to get back to work, especially since I am taking a personal day tomorrow!!! :goodvibes

Congratulations!

Of course for those of us that are internet acronym challenged, this was a very confusing message. First, I was wondering how your Darn SON-in-law gave birth, you should be calling the record people. Then I started thinking it further and that wouldn't make you an Aunt, rather a Grandmother. Then I realized it was Delightful SISTER-in-law..... yikes. :rotfl2:

Hello Everyone!

Laura, I hear you, my mom turns 79 this summer and she still mows her own lawn and when she comes over to babysit she does all our ironing also. My mom is like a shark, always on the go. Fortunatly or unfortunatly I'm very similar.

Hope your vacation at WDW was fun.

We finally made it, it is Opening Night for Brigadoon.............

Evenin' pirate:s

I've had a c**ppy day, how 'bout y'all?

You guys could all really help me out if you just go to any ol' realty sight and just pick out a house for me to rent somewhere near DC. OK, thanks.

Oh, and while your at it, find a tenant for a lovely home in Eagle River, Alaska. All the better if they like to colors on all of my walls. Thanks again.

Headin' back for ketchup.

Homesdatabase.com can help you find a rental, M.....

What kind of schools do you want for the kids? (private or public)

How sad is it that we both have professional, executive type jobs with decent pay, no debt, and can't afford a freekin' house within a 2 hour commute to DC??????

Not sad...it's reality...

But with the downturn in housing you can rent for much better than what it costs to buy at inflated prices....

(Especially since the military may only have you here for a few years)

DC (fill in expletive of choice here)!!!!

One guy I had to work with on a project ended up buying a boat and renting a slip on the river in DC because it was cheaper than renting or buying. He needed to be in DC proper though. The other problem you will have is what may appear to be a short commute in that area may be long as the traffic is awful. Some roads heading west out of DC are HOV during rush hour.

Look for someplace with access to trains, etc.

The CG Reservist I work with did an active duty stint in DC, ended up renting in Pentagon City area and commuting into DC (near White House area) for the assignment he had, it was cheaper and easier.

One other thought is to find a good realtor (who does rentals) in area and let them do legwork for you.

Life jackets??? I thought they were the lobster bibs. :rotfl:

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Must have been some lobster!

Patiently waiting for the appearance of petite Mrs. Crash's holding a giant lobster.
:rolleyes1

Man, I must be getting old(er), it's hard to believe that our DD Kristen would have been turning 30 years old today, where have the years gone???

:grouphug:

Unfortunately M, that has become pretty common these days. My cousin, a GS-15 for the Fed Gov't (well into 6 figures) just recently moved to the DC metro area and was :scared1: by the housing market. Between she and her husband (no kids) they are struggling to buy a place one hour, no traffic included, from her job in Alexandria.:confused3

I know I'm not alone, but for a little while yesterday it was all about ME!
We bought our first house when I was 25. This is the first time that I feel like we are going backwards. CT and AK ain't cheap and we didn't have to live ina shed in either place.

I found a nice area with some great rentals, then realized that it would take 1.5 hours for DH to get to work & I don't know about my commute yet. We have kids, that is just not the life I want to have.

It all just sucks.

Homesdatabase.com can help you find a rental, M.....

What kind of schools do you want for the kids? (private or public)

DH would wat to consider Catholic school if there is one nearby. Most likely the kids will go to public school. DS8 has an IEP, so our biggest concern is how (or if) they mainstream the special ed kids.

Thanks for the website suggestion - I haven't seen that one.
I've had several people who are already there tell us that we would 'fit' better in MD, but that depends on where I get a job. All my opportunities seem to to be either downtown or Alexandria.

Thanks to all for the sympathy/encouragement. All our other moves have seemed like an adventure. This one notsomuch. I was just having a bad day. More to follow...

Morning everyone! What a day so far. Doing some ketchup!

as i was reading and laughing at your post....i got an email notification...yes...it was an add for viagra!!! ummm....i'm not really sure why or how we got on the list of getting ads for this but we get them all the time! it's horrible!!!!

I know. How does my name get on some of these lists? If you look at the spam I get I'm deeply in debt and in need of viagra! No debt and females and viagra?:confused3

MR I agree with your post too. The Massengil comercials use to get me. Mother & daughter gardening and talking and suddenly a box of it in the gardening basket! Hello! Your gardening! :rotfl:

Congrats new aunt!

I really don't want to live in a house where there is a good chance Dick Cheney will just pop up out of nowhere.

I know that's my nightmare. Hope your house search goes well. It is very expensive there. I don't know how people do it.

Tina.....very nice job on the chair! :thumbsup2 Did you freehand that?

I did the lettering free hand, the rest are clip art I pulled off some Disney sites.

Morning All :wave2:
Anyone up for some German apple pancakes?
Your are not making it easy to cut back, least it doesn't cause calories to look!

Beautiful ! Your very talented.:thumbsup2 Hope your chair went for alot of $$.

Thanks. It went for $35. There were 23 chairs total and 1 set of a desk and chair and a set with 2 chairs and desk. I was surprised that both sets went for under $200. The 3 piece set was done by a local artist and everyone always wants her stuff. But the PTO really needs money for field day and 6th grade dinner. One of the organizers did High School Musical. I said to her that it wasn't a "Storybook" and she said that she bought one at the book fair! She thinks she is all that and a bag of chips! If I would of known that I could of done POTC! There weren't many boy themes.

Today is my Mom's 80th birthday. WOW.

Happy Birthday! Enjoy some :cake:

Thanks Darlene!!!

No Arlene, I think you were just caught up in the moment.............;)

Yes, I was so relieved. Sorry if I spoiled it for anyone but since it was all over the net and news:confused3

Beautiful day here. Wish y'all could enjoy it. Looks like there is an extensive list with disers coming down to WDW. Hopefully, we can get the chanace to meet everyone if only for a brief encounter to match the face with the name.

Busy day today. DD has schedule conflict so I will be taking the role of Soccer Mom tonight and Tomorrow.

My Mom will be 90 this Nov and is extremely active. Walks an hour each am including the hot summer months here. Alas, I don 't have her determination.

M my DD lived in Ellicott City Md and it was a really nice area. I remember we drove often into the DC area for touristy things and it was a bit of a drive. I know on the tv each am the traffic was pretty bad. But it's that way around any big city. Busy city life is a bit to get used to after being in the serene beauty where you presently are.

I found a nice area with some great rentals, then realized that it would take 1.5 hours for DH to get to work & I don't know about my commute yet. We have kids, that is just not the life I want to have.

If he is in downtown DC, then your job should probably drive the location. Unfortunately, DC is a sit in traffic kinda town. I hate having to go there.

Exactly what kind of 'fit' are you? :rotfl2: :rotfl:
