Did I tell you guys that the day before we left for vacation our DD (17) gave her 2 weeks notice at her Drug Store job?? DH & I were upset, not because she resigned (it's a horrible job), but because we wanted her to find something else first. She has a car that she needs to gas up and insure. No money, no car...simple. Well today is her last day on her old job and she secured a new job at the local pancake house as a waitress. I don't know if that's that job for her either, but, she is only a high school kid....................................



SO we definitely must have a NY/NJ area Mini-Meet at this Diner!! That will Freak my ST out!!

Okay, so we'll let her train a little before Freaking her out! Anyone in??

Wow you guys talked ALOT today......I'm having trouble catching up and that hasn't happened in weeks!!

We all have lots of snow and nothing better to do.

So I had my first swim lesson yesterday. There were only 2 (later 3) of us. The instructor wanted to know how much we knew about swimming, what we wanted to learn, any fears etc. So naturally my fear is drowning and I need to know how to not sink (turns out my freestyle stroke wasn't too terribly bad). My classmate, a rather lithe, much too in-shape lady says that she's going to do a triathlon!!! WTH!?!?!?!? I thought this was a beginner's class!!?!? Turns out she needs instruction to improve her stroke and get her off using the noseclip (she hates water going in her nose) because they aren't permitted in competition swimming.

Lesson went well but now I've got a stuffy nose and sore throat. DW also has something because she wasn't feeling well last night.

I can swim but only if there is a side to swim to. I do not like the ocean. You really have a lot of courage.

Hard to say. When I started here eight years ago, I thought I'd work here forever. But things are so messed up right now, I'd probably be better off somewhere else. Funding has run out on the project I am assigned to and unless we land the contract I've been working on in the next few days, management will pull the plug. That will be the second time in a year for me. Last time, I was in a good position and landed in a new job without any issues (in fact, they gave me a choice of two jobs). This time, I'm sure they will show me the outside of the door.

I hope things go well for you. Looking for a job is no easy task right now.

Oh J. R. you obviously don't have STs yet..........They quit jobs for much, much less than this..........so I might as well have a little fun with her while I can!


And my DD is actually one of the more responsible STs of her posse. She's been at the drug store for nearly a year......like dogs, that's equivalent to 7 ST years


For the record....I'd love to have another Meet, but I wouldn't do that to DD, she is leaving for college soon and I'd like for us to be on speaking terms when she does go off to school......Oh No now I'm getting all weepy again..

Yes Kathy Rutgers it is. A blessing in some ways and not so much in others. We do love though that she'll be close to home and hope she'll come home often. I love living in Denialville.....it's nice here.......

Disney was great. First time in a grand villa. Loved it. Me and the DD's are trying to convince the DW to go back in August.

Under the Category "It's A Small World After All" Turns out our niece (my DBro. DD) and Jack and Justine's (Justine's DBro. DD) niece live on the same block in Queens, NY and are really good friends!

How's THAT for concidence......or rather 6 degrees of separation!

Ok, here's a "Small World" story....

A few years ago, my mom passed from cancer, and the brothers and I and my dad were of course overwhelmed with her care. The hospital had sent in a hospice nurse during the last few weeks of her care. It turned out that the nurse was my cousin, a cousin I never met or even knew about as she was given up for adoption at birth and my aunt (her mom) was not close to the family any longer. So, it was just a shock to meet during this really bad time...

Then, after my mom passed, we were talking about something, not even sure what anymore but the name of a guy I used to hang around with came up in a conversation.

My cousin was present and said, "yeah, I know him...he used to work with my dad".
"Oh, where" I said.
She says, "at the steel plant". This intrigued me, because thats where I got to know this guy we were talking about - I used to work there....
"So, who's you dad?"
"Jim. Jim Keiser", she says.
"Wo! When I worked there, I used to hang around at Jim's house at lunch and play with his Great Danes..." This guy, Jim, was her adopted dad...

To sum it up, I used to hang around HER house and I didn't even know who she was until 20 years later!

And during this hard time I was introduced to a new aunt...my mom had a sister I never knew about. She only lived 2-3 miles away.....it was great meeting her because she reminded me soooo much of my mom, right down to her sense of weird humor, even her laugh...it was my moms.

Hows that? We don't have skeletons in our closet, we have whole bodies!

It is the sign of the times!!! My DD, who I raised to be a lady, one day said she was getting a tatoo. My DH said cool I will get one too. She has two Mickey's on her ankles forever! How could I stay mad?? It was a Mickey. She is married to a very conservative lawyer now.

I also found out even better news: an increase in the retirement age for "new hires" from 55 to 60, so it appears as I am grandfathered in and can still retire at 55 if that is my choice!!!

Oh Andy that is great news!!!!! Being a grandfather(ed) can be a great thing.

We finally got home late this afternoon. We had a great time at both Disney and meeting everyone at the little OKW meet. Justine originally doubted that anyone would actually show up. She figured that it would just be me and Pete with our cooler. But eveyone was very pleased with how it turned out.


If the people we met are any indicia of the rest of the people on this cruise, this truly will be the TOAL.
