Cheryl, I agree that Andy is the heart, LilGrumpy is the conscience and obviously Tom and J.R. are the quibbling smart add brothers who are always trying to outdo the other. "M" is the girl next door. Lisa is "mom" who keeps us in line and makes us "play nice".....:lmao: :lmao:

At least she tries anyway! ;)

Can we do like the military and wear multiple badges? I like them all....

Show off!

Hello All :wave2:
Just a little update, Please tell me if this is normal or not :confused3
I just listed our house yesterday and by the way NO I am not done painting yet but I didn't want to miss the market either. I got a call last night that there would be 4 showings today. 1:15, 3:45, 5:30, 6:30 WOW after the first appointment I get a call that they are making an offer.

Deposit made and it was only a 1,000 less then I was asking. They are already pre-qualified for a mortgage. Is it really this easy? I have been sooooo stressed for what?:rotfl2:

Fingers crossed everything else goes this smooth.

Wow Tina! I thought the housing market was down? I guess not in your area! I hope everything goes as well for you too! :flower3:

:cake:, I believe.

And a shot of Baileys!

I don't think this is the norm Tina, so it must be meant to be, congrats!!! :thumbsup2

Thanks again everyone...I think we've now moved into Acceptance...What's the next step? :)

Joel, I was just ketching up, and hoped I wouldn't read of your wife's layoff. What's the next step? I think it will be through the door way that is about to open for your DW. Remember, when one door shuts, another one opens.

I commend you and your dw for the sacrifices you have made to be with your children. I agree they are at an age now that leaving them in childcare will be much easier. And look at the bright side, you will get to spend much more time together as a family.

Thanks all, couldn't take it anymore today so I left work early. Hazel is going to call my orthopedic doc and see if I can get in to see him.

Andy I'm so sorry you're in pain. Maybe a shot may help
The last time Rich went thru this he pulled out the crutches until he saw the Dr. But his was easily fixed as he had fluid buildup.

And look at the bright side, you will get to spend much more time together as a family.

:thumbsup2 That's what I'm hoping most. She's taught Tuesday night, Friday night and Saturday all day for most sessions. So...there was no such thing as a weekend (which has been tough). I always tried to do something fun with the DDs on Friday nights (out to eat, movie, last weekend we went to hit golf balls at a range), squeeze in some time for home maintenance/cleaning on Saturdays, then Saturday night when DW gets home, she's ready to crash through Sunday. Might actually be able to have some nights out now, visit with friends, and do a family weekend overnight once in awhile :goodvibes .

Sounds great. Good luck!

Maybe a mini-meet with MR and her blender.........:rolleyes1

Wishing you and DW all my best...........:grouphug:

Thanks...sorry about your knee. Hope it gets to feeling better.

Strange that we're all talking about knees etc because yesterday I went to see my Ortho' Consultant for a follow-up appointment (I had knee surgery in 2005 following an incident in work). I am in constant pain with my right knee and take pain-killers every day. Having had physio for eight weeks to strengthen the muscles in my leg, he is now referred me to a rheumatologist as I have raised levels in my blood. From personal experience I can recommend a holiday to Florida or a Caribbean cruise as the heat works wonders on my knee :thumbsup2

The consultant is talking about going back into my knee in the future with ultimately, a knee replacement.
David

Yes David I agree!!! My knees never seem to bother me when I am in Florida or on a cruise.:woohoo:Is that telling us something.:confused3

Yes Judy I forgot Lisa is the mother but with like all us naughty children, we do need to be disciplaned.:lmao: She does a good job of that!!!! Tom and JR the quibbling brothers and Captain Crash is our eyes!!!:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 Glad you agree Andy is the heart of the board and Lil' Grumpy is our conscious of this thread.

Thanks to all for the warm responses.

Hmmm....DeVry stock jumped 6.39% today! Investors love the belt-tightening of a company. http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=DV

Unfortunately, that means DW and 8 other faculty members were announced to being laid off today:sad1: . She'll be onboard until June 30th, then receive 10 weeks of severance pay, so that puts us into September.

It was a great job for our DDs. Although she was full-time w/great salary, she taught evenings and Saturdays so she was home during the day for our DDs. It seemed like we were single parents at times because we'd pass in the doorway as I came home from work and she left, but we took pride in never putting the girls in daycare. Fortunately, they're 6 & 8 now, so I think the more critical time has passed and they may actually enjoy a few hours with kids their age after school should we need to do so to accomodate a new job.

I'm sure she'll find something. She's pretty marketable with 11 years teaching CIS (computer information systems) courses, some computer forensics background (I'm very careful what websites I visit:lmao: ) and a nearly completed PhD. She could likely find something working with a company versus teaching that pays much more than she earned teaching, but she just loves teaching and the flexible schedule. Her PhD is focused in Distance Learning (Online College Courses), which it's ironic because they cited the increase number of students doing online courses as a reason to let her go.
:goodvibes
Thanks again everyone...I think we've now moved into Acceptance...What's the next step? :)

Now just keep the faith. Things sometimes happen for the better.:goodvibes

Your comment about "crossing anything" made me do a Google search. This was the funniest item I ran across.

This is not meant to profess any political views but it is really funny! :lmao:

I think you hit the nail on the head!

I think I should be offended, but I am not smart enough to tell.

BTW, I did have some awards to give out that I saw today.

For Tom, The "statistical linear regression" badge.
We figured that if you actually know what those three words together mean, then you deserve a badge. Statistics rock!
47stats.jpg

For jonesing, The "I AM actually a freaking rocket scientist" badge.
For members who can utter the phrase "It's not rocket science" with authority.
60rocketscience.jpg

For me and the other geeks, the The "I may look like a scientist, but I'm actually also a pirate" badge. Drinks rum. Into pillaging and stuff.

Woohoo & congrats! Sounds like your market is depressed yet and it is still a seller's market. Down here in the HV it is hit or miss, we've seen homes that have sat for months and other that have gone in a few weeks. The days of multiple showings and multiple offers are gone for the time being. I'm hoping that they come back by the time we are ready to leave (2 to 5 years in all probabilility).

What a cool site those come from

but you missed some good ones

00OOTSSOERAAAP.jpg

The official acronym, we don't even have ones that long on DIS! It stands for

57feces.jpg

The "works with feces" badge. (or maybe just worth using when someone posts some of the stuff!)

59martini.jpg

The "has done science whilst under the influence" badge.
This can apply to both achieving moments of intellectual clarity or actual performance of an experiment whilst under the influence. It presumes talking about science under the influence a given.
(and certainly fits in around this group on a number of levels - shame they don't have one with a blender on it)

49expert.jpg

The "world's foremost expert on an obscure subject" badge.
In which the recipient is the leading expert in a fieldthat few others share an interest in.

31useless.jpg

The "I've done science with no concievable practical application" badge.
There are probably more who are deserving of this badge than you would expect.

Hi Everyone!!! Happy Thursday!

I didn't DIS yesterday and I missed you guys........

Yesterday I had a dye/highlight job and tonight I had my Rosacea treatment.........and you know what?????????

MY FACE HURTS AGAIN!

Hey Judy don't forget me.....the crazy alcoholic Aunt of our family :rotfl2:
