8/17/08 Captain Jack's Repossession Repo Cruise to PC thru TPC Part 12

Well, this is in regards to DD's class. Her assistant teacher is now doing her student teaching to get her degree at a different school for the second half of the year. They didn't have anyone for a month. Parents volunteered to go in & help but were turned down by the teacher. Our letters sent in January resulted in them hiring a substitute to be the assistant in that room. Four weeks later she was told by HR at central services that because of the fact that the person student teaching is still being paid, there is no money in the budget to put anyone else in that classroom. That is the stupidest thing that I ever heard. Where is the money from the new lottery going? This can't be the only classroom affected like this in the county. My child & the others in that room are being denied their right to the proper faculty/student ratio to help them learn properly. The other two classrooms have assistant teachers. Now they have suggested that one of them will split their time between the two classrooms. Now instead of 20 kids being at a disadvantage...there will be 40 affected by the school board's stupidity.

Also, the parent survey came home today in response to our letters. What a crock! It is a 21 question generic survey with bubbles to fill in. No room for comments or details regarding problems.

Not just your school district.. ours too.. the taxes are going up and up and up and where does the money go??? In a shoebox??
The School district is firing teachers and increasing the classroom size and IMHO decreasing the quality of education...

Did I tell you guys that the day before we left for vacation our DD (17) gave her 2 weeks notice at her Drug Store job?? DH & I were upset, not because she resigned (it's a horrible job), but because we wanted her to find something else first. She has a car that she needs to gas up and insure. No money, no car...simple. Well today is her last day on her old job and she secured a new job at the local pancake house as a waitress. I don't know if that's that job for her either, but, she is only a high school kid....................................



SO we definitely must have a NY/NJ area Mini-Meet at this Diner!! That will Freak my ST out!!

OK, time to vent again, this week is really starting to get on my last nerve.

I went into the office to drop off the meter book that I finished and to pick up my paycheck this afternoon. My boss' secretary was at her desk and we started some small talk about my trip last week. Then she says to me, "Did you happen to hear that it appears the retirement age is being pushed up to 60 for current as well as new employees?" The last I heard, those of us that were already in the retirement system could still go out at 55, but if this new proposal goes through, unless I want to take a pension cut, I will have to hang around until I am 60. Then the secretary tells me that our prescription co-pay is going up the 1st of May, and that we can only get a 30day supply of medication for each prescription. As it is right now, we can get a 90 day supply for each prescription.

I almost dread going into work tomorrow, for fear of more heart wrenching news...............

OK, time for me to take a chill pill and cool off a bit.........................

Oh No Andy!! I have been counting down retirement with you for nearly three years now......they can't do that can they?? Just change it for those within spitting distance? I hope you find out better news through your own research.

I'll second (or third, or whatever the # is up to now) that... We ended up going Cat 10 because I wouldn't take a 9 GTY - there are too many of them I wouldn't want to stay in. I still don't like having a 10 GTY.

ps. remember this is the crowd who 15 months out has already located liquor stores, drink recipes, party locations, etc.

OMG!!! Do you have a school board that governs the school district????? I use to camp out at the school board when I did not like what was going on. I was a real pain in their ****side. Maybe it is time to stir up a little trouble and contact the local paper. Education is the key to all the doors of life. I hope you wrote all over the little bubbles.

You know, I had no idea what you were talking about until I saw Andy's post. (GoofyforGoofy) I'm sorry but I never even considered the tragic accident when I read that thread. I was only looking at it as people venting about some of the questions that get posted on the cruise board. I remember when someone asked where the reserved section of CC was for concierge...for example. I know many of the people who posted on that thread and I seriously doubt that they even considered the tragedy when they posted their comment. I feel badly that it never entered my mind when I read it but I come to the boards to get away from the stress of every day life.

That is the spirit I took it as well. Poking fun and the sense of entitlement of some and the obsessive overplanning of others.

I cruise with a man who knows the exact location of the nearest lifeboat from any place on the ship, makes sure that our life jackets actually fit, and jumps out of a sound sleep everytime the pitch of the engine hum changes in the middle of the night.

We are in the same boat too.. Literally and figuratively.. The company annouced that the pension payout was cut for all so we will be getting a lot of money less per year now..

So I had my first swim lesson yesterday. There were only 2 (later 3) of us. The instructor wanted to know how much we knew about swimming, what we wanted to learn, any fears etc. So naturally my fear is drowning and I need to know how to not sink (turns out my freestyle stroke wasn't too terribly bad). My classmate, a rather lithe, much too in-shape lady says that she's going to do a triathlon!!! WTH!?!?!?!? I thought this was a beginner's class!!?!? Turns out she needs instruction to improve her stroke and get her off using the noseclip (she hates water going in her nose) because they aren't permitted in competition swimming.

Lesson went well but now I've got a stuffy nose and sore throat. DW also has something because she wasn't feeling well last night.

You Go Guy! Awesome facing your fear like that! (but sorry you & DW are not feeling well)

Sorry about all the bad news. The prescription thing happened to us in January and they changed our prescription plan to a tiered system - so if you get a generic you pay the lowest amount, if you get an approved (on the insurance companies list of drug companies) brand name you pay the middle amount, if you get a brand name that isn't on the list you pay the highest amount up to and including full payment. This is even if the drug you need has no equivalent at any other company!

I try to look at it this way, we at least have insurance when there are so many out there who have nothing.
