I am so maaaad at NBC for airing that wackos video! I think they are just as sick as he was. Are there no morals in the world any more! I don't buy the "public has a right to know" thing. If nothing but out of respect for the families who lost loved ones. It makes me angry that they are playing into that kids plans. Then we wonder where people get their ideas. Sorry for venting, I'm off the soap box now.

DD's teacher sent out an email about what she would tell the kids if one of them brought it up. I haven't watched much news this week so I don't think dd really knows.

The first thing I thought after the initial shock of seeing his pictures was that thank goodness it got delayed in the mail with the wrong information. It would have been even worse if it had been received Tuesday morning. Much more wasn't shown due to editing than what was released. The thing is...NBC isn't the only news station that has shown the video and pictures. The other stations could have petitioned for access to the information under the freedom of information act. I also have to question if some other stations would have edited the material as much as NBC did.

Both of the kids know what happened. They have watched the news with us. We have talked about what happened at Daddy's college and cried together. They have code 300 drills every month at school and know that it is for when a bad person comes into the school to try to hurt people. Now they have connected what happened at VT to the reason they have the drills.

this person's video and writings, resulted in more emotional pain..

When were you stationed in Norfolk, LG? That was my hometown. DH Chrisva also lived there when he was younger.

I ended up staying up later than I planned last night because I found a very moving article from the Washington Post about the final moments of the victims. It is well written and thru the tears made me feel closer to those who died and suffered that day. It is thoughtful and chilling all at once.

Of course, none of this was ever covered by the news, the princple and the other administrators who locked themselves in all kept their jobs and the whole thing was handled as if it never happened.

How terrifying for all of the students! The administration sounds like they followed the CJS guidelines for leadership.

Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts for Elizabeth. She is really relieved at this point that they did find a reason for her pain and that she knows there is an end to this in her future.

HOUSTON -- A building at the Johnson Space Center was evacuated Friday afternoon after a man with a weapon was reportedly inside, KPRC-TV reported.

Johnson Space Center security officers and Houston police, including a SWAT team, were dispatched to the scene.


NASA spokesman James Hartsfield said the building was "one of the smaller" office buildings on the JSC campus, where Mission Control is based.

He declined to speculate on how a person would get a gun inside NASA security or what his motives would be.

The identity of the armed man is not yet known. Houston police said the man is a white male, and he has barricaded himself in a room on the building's second floor.

There are no reports of injuries.

NASA is a secured facility that requires approved access, KPRC reported.

"If you are an employee and have the correct badge and the correct sticker on your car, you can generally drive right in," former astronaut Dr. Bill Fisher said. "If this were a contractor or a NASA employee, that person would have almost unlimited access to the Space Center once you're through the gate. For someone who is not a NASA employee, they have to go through a number of security checks and they would have to get a special badge."

Johnson Space Center was established in 1961 as the Manned Spacecraft Center and, in 1973, renamed in honor of the late President and Texas native, Lyndon B. Johnson.

JSC has served as the nerve center for the Gemini, Apollo, Skylab, space shuttle, International Space Station and other programs.

About 3,000 employees people work at the center; most are engineers and scientists.

More than 12,000 contractors from about 50 companies work onsite or in nearby office buildings and other facilities.

There are about 110 astronauts based at JSC for training.

We had a similar problem with Jakob. His Dr administered a reading test when he was 8. He read the paragraph out loud correctly, and the dr showed it to us. Every word with more than 4 letters had the interior letters reversed. (Boat was Baot, for example) she then showed him a second paragraph which he read correctly. It was the same paragraph spelled correctly. with the two paragraphs side by side he was unable to identify any differences in the paragraphs. Well, he did notice that one word was misspelled.

Basically, he was reading with only the right side of the brain. the right side recognizes the first and last letters and the lenght of the word. The left side recognizes the interior letters. Both sides of the brain don't integrate until 9 years - so she wasn't terribly concerned, but did prescribe several courses of physical therapy focusing on balance, and cross body integration, she also wanted him to swim a lot - that cross body thing. (This is the reason our school delays having children read. Though spelling is started off right away. Of course, by the tiime they start "reading" they've pretty much figured it out on their own. It makes for a pack of 3rd and 4th graders who are voracious readers.)

Unfortunately its the 24/7 media world we live in. Do you really think the President would have been there if it wasn't a convenient photo op? All the "experts" get time on TV, all the politicos line up to give condolences or roll out the little too late plan that really couldn't have prevented it from happening. Stepping off the soap box also....

With all that is going on with VT it seems to have gotten lost in the shuffle, but today happens to be the 8th anniversary of the Columbine Shootings. The high school itself is closed and all the other CO schools are holding outdoor prayer sessions for those who lost their lives as well as those at VT.

This week is also anniversary of the Oklahoma City bombing.
