JperiodspaceRperiod - yes we've missed you.....we haven't had our daily groundhog reports.....also miss you in chat....thanks for checking in

I can't find my groundhog post on my computer. I thought it was in a scrap doc on my desktop. It must be somewhere near my marbles.

Was I ever in chat? I can't remember. Honestly.

Good morning everyone!!! I have about 400 posts to ketchup on. I am soooooo depressed. :sad2: It is freezing here, The temperature got into the teens last night. We are only going to be in the 30's for days and days!!!:sad2: Our average temperature should be at 55 degress. I HATE living in ILLINOIS!!!

Morning, hope it warms up for you soon, I will blow some of our hot stuff to you.

In London we are currently hotter than the coast in Spain, Rome in Italy parts of Greece.

All windows and doors open to let the heat out! and we have this into next week.

7 emergency questions

1) What 2 things would you grab and run with BY HAND (aside from a spouse or child/children) if an emergency evacuation moment arose on a cruise ship? Hmm wallet and document folder.

2) Same question at home (keep answers interesting - but NO personal secret info revealed please - for your protection!) i gotta go with the dogs.... (abby & casey)

3) Do you have an "Emergency Plan" established for your family? IE... if you lost touch with one another in a huge public emergency do you have any plans or understandings with loved ones?
Not yet

4) Do you get thrills or chills from Movies depicting "EMERGENCY" themed thrillers? Like the movie "Speed" or "Earthquake", or movies with tangental emergencies as in BACKDRAFT or similar? Nah they seem cheasy... But i remember seeing Towering Inferno (TV movie) as a kid and was always scared of high rises.

5) Do you know or have you in the past been trained in any first aid? Can you do CPR in a pinch? Do you know your rights and liabilities? Nope, but DH took a course in college.

6)Have you ever performed emergency 1st aid ? nope there too

7)What was the last "emergency moment" that you personally experienced?
Last summer, there was a motorcycle accident in front of our house. I thought it was a little kid but it was the owners teen daughter who had "popped the clutch" and took off across the curb and right into the side of our neighbor's car. She was only bruised a little but ok.

I just got back from taking my mom to her local library to drop off some hard boiled eggs for the kids Easter Egg Hunt that will be held on Saturday. On our way there I saw a sign on the side of the road and stopped the car to take a pic of it, which I have attached below. ;)

After leaving the library we had to stop and my Uncle Al's place for a few minutes. My Uncle Al lives a mile behind my mom's place. This area was the area that got hit very hard by the tornado on February 2nd. I had my camera with me, but I could not bring myself to take any pics of what I saw. It's been two months since the tornado went through, yet I still had tears coming to my eyes from what I saw a few minutes ago. One of the trailers that was destroyed was the one that my brother Pete and his girlfriend were looking to rent last fall, the family that was living in that trailer are all gone. :sad1:

Looking at what I just saw, gives me a new appreciation for what I have, it may not be much compared to what others have, but it's mine, and I'm thankful for it!!!

That is so sad Andy - you're right, it does put things into perspective.

It reminds me of when DH and I were on our honeymoon - we drove through Homestead two months after Hurricane Andrew went through - the devastation that we saw left me speechless.

Ok, now I feel like a real idiot for my comment.

:wizard:

No one ever knows what is going to happen, on a UK dis thread last year there was a disscussion about a Virgin flight to USA, leaving late each day for two weeks, I commented that wasnt good service by Virgin. ( and unusual for them).

The next morning the 'security issues' at UK airports started ( liquids) and one 'poster' thought it would be good to make a dig at me that for saftey and security it didnt matter if planes were delayed.

It annoyed me as how could I know what was going to happen, my comments were correct in normal circumstances and a genuine way, on the knowledge I had at that time, I wasnt party to Mi5's investigations.

The cruise incident is not good two people lost their lives, and the ship went down quickly. But due to other very 'visable and terrible' news stories in the UK at the moment it hasnt made it to Air a lot.

My DS13 is currently failing physical education. He forgot to do a take-home quiz on volleyball rules.

This is the same kid who would have had straight-A's in the fall except he got a 'C' in BAND. (Because he didn't turn in his signed practice sheets -- which we parents never even knew existed)

How do you get A's in Math, Science, Reading, Social Studies and a 'C' in band!!!

:wizard:

That's what we've been asking ourselves - how the h*** do you fail health? It's an EASY A! Come to find out he's hasn't been doing the work, not paying attention in class, etc., all because he doesn't like the teacher. When he was described to me it brought back vivid memories of some of my college professors - you know the ones, sit or stand at the front of the room, recites some info at you, gives you an assignment and that's that - basically a talking robot. We've been trying to get it into DS's thick skull that the teacher doesn't care whether he passes or fails but he needs to. So, no video games and no Yu-Gi-Oh tournaments until we see the next 5 week progress report.

Hello -and good morning everyone!

I'm very limited on time - as it's Spring Break here and since the kids are free of school ... we're all gonna follow Mom on some of her business day today and monday so we can begin our "off time" the moment she is done - and when she finishes up we'll be closer to where we ultimately want to end up. We have family visiting from Maui for Easter... so this enables getting together quicker today. But this also means more driving and running around.

I'll not be on for tonights' chat - and saturday we have an Easter Egg hunt and dinner at Church so I expect to be gone most of tomorrow, then come Monday-tuesday and thursday-friday we're traveling on business then going to Vegas for a day ... partly for business and partly pleasure (we never gamble - and do NOT look on gambling as a form of entertainment - no offense intended to those who enjoy gambling in Vegas).

At any rate, we got a prety good deal for hotel in Vegas with Hotwire. We took a 4 star for only $75 (87 with fees and taxes) and got the Westin off Flamingo. It was selling for $185 + 9% taxes if booking directly when we bought through Hotwire... so the savings was a little over 50%. PLUS, the place is more our preference with a small casino and lack of provokcative cocktail hostess attire. The pool is smaler then we like but it's contemporary, mildly upscale and HEATED. So that suits us fine.

Aside from all the "me" stuff... I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. I hope to visit on the thread this weekend... probably late saturday and sunday evening if I'm not too zonked on returning home. I'll try to add another edition of 7 questions now before I sign off for this day...

Busy busy busy! Happy Easter to you and yours - hopefully we will see you at chat next Friday.

Oh, we win the evil parents award easily. We take one gift that comes in multiple pieces and wrap it in separate boxes. (I wanted to take a lego set and split up all the pieces and wrap them in separate boxes -- I am thinking of buying a small lego set for Easter and putting each piece in a different egg and scatter them over the house!)

We'll wrap video games and then put them inside shirt boxes so the kids think they are clothes. We'll hide gift cards in pockets of pants we buy them so they think they are getting clothes.

If I am spending this much on Christmas, then, by golly, I am going to get some enjoyment.

Now I like that philosophy!!!

7) What was the last "emergency moment" that you personally experienced?

1 - kooky looking life vest and my camera so I can record the events

2 - laptop and my purse

3 - yes, but not because I'm ultra prepared, but last quarter my son had to put one together for a school project

4 - nah, you can keep the adrenalin junkie movies, give me the sappy love stories (or anything with Johnny Depp)

5 - EMT trained but never employeed as one, so yeah, I can do the emergency medicine stuff

6 - not life threatening first aid, but helped deliver a baby when I was doing my ambulance ride along

7 - probably my smashed finger in the car door a few years ago - I think that was one of the only times I've ever had to go to the emergency room
