OK, I have a question that's off-topic...(well, if there is such a thing as "off-topic for this thread...LOL)

But here goes. I would like to know how many of you take advantage of friends and relatives for free babysitting EVERY time you go out and need a sitter. I only ask because it seems that EVERYONE we know has kids. All of our close relatives (brothers, sisters) and all of our friends have children. And we have none (at least for the time being, hopefully we will soon!)
So I feel like we are the "go-to" folks whenever our friends and relatives need a babysitter. And it's always free. It's not like I would ever expect any of them to pay, but no one has ever even offered to pay. And don't get me wrong. I don't fault anyone for seeking out free child care once in a while. But it seems like every weekend we are being hit up by someone for free babysitting. I just recently started feeling a little bitter...And I feel bad for feeling bitter about it all. But I am. I guess maybe I'm tired of watching other people's kids, and I want one of my own!! If I'm going to take care of kids with no pay, I'd like to at least get to claim them on my taxes!! :lmao:
(that tax thing is just a joke, in case some state worker is reading this...LOL)

We don't get asked too much to babysit mainly because they think that my DW might keep them. (possession is 9/10ths of the law right?) :lmao:

I was at Walmart today and saw a POC head thing that you could hang on your door. It was motion activated to either alarm or tell jokes. It took batteries, so I couldn't try it out. How annoying do you think that would be in the hallway? It says it has a 6ft motion detector.:rolleyes1

I saw that at ours a few weeks ago. How long do ya think it would last on the door before some "had' to have it?

:surfweb: Hello everybody!

I've been  with the flu since Friday...haven't even thought about touching the computer. But, I'm on the mend and yes, I've resorted to reading the summaries.:scared1: I know, taking the easy way out...:rotfl:

Looks like spring might actually be approaching...going to 52* here today and up to the 60s Wednesday and Thursday.

Happy Birthday Patty

Hope you feel better soon. I know how you feel. But it will get better. Sending you pixiedust:

That was easy, only a couple pages to read, now I can eat my lunch!!! :thumbsup2

Leftover sketties, right out of the microwave!!! :lmao:
I read this and thought you were having Skittles for lunch. Wondered why you needed to microwave candy. That's what I get for skimming. :rotfl:

Hi everyone. Just getting caught up from my day off in Santa Barbara yesterday. It was a beautiful day and lots of fun with one big exception. A large glass canister got knocked over at the candy store we had stopped at. Next thing I know my DD is screaming and her toe is bleeding all over the place. A shard of glass must have grazed her toe and left a pretty nasty cut. At first I was worried she might need stitches, but thank goodness DH is the calm one. He scooped her up and we took her back to the car and applied direct pressure until it stopped bleeding and then we bandaged it up really well. Fortunately we had tennies in the car as well so we were able to put socks and shoes on her and save the rest of the day. I did let her stay home from school today so she can stay off of it and give it more of a chance to heal. I don't handle these situations so well, can't stand to see my babies hurt. To cap it it all off, a lady standing outside the store made a rude remark to my DH as he was carrying my screaming DD out. I think she thought she was throwing a tantrum over not getting candy. Suffice it to say my DH's response was not too nice and once she saw the blood dripping off DD's foot, I think she felt very bad and embarrassed about being so snotty. Just goes to show that you can never jump to conclusions.

Thanks, she is doing better. She just freaks out a little whenever I need to change the bandage. She doesn't want to look at it. This girl will never be a nurse or doctor that's for sure!

Hope her foot heals quickly.

It was lots of fun! We went for luch so there were quite a few families. It's probably not a place I'd take kids in the evening. Way too wild and party oriented from what I hear. Especially during spring break.
Yeah we have done that a couple times. It is not a place for kids at night. Way to wild.

HI All, just a drive by posting to let you know I haven't fallen off the face of the earth but I've been really sick. Started last evening and continued all night into the early hours this morning. I still haven't had anything solid to eat and the liquids are going through me.

Anyway, I won't be around anymore today and I'm pretty far behind so I will probably rely on the summaries to get me through.

Hmm, must be the DIS water. I hope you are feeling better soon!!! Sending you some pixiedust:

Laura,

I heard a CD at my mom's one time. The father on the CD was telling his DD's date he didn't have any problem going back to jail if the boy tried any funny stuff with his DD. I have used that line a time or two myself, you should have seen the boy's face, he didn't know if I was kidding or not, it was priceless!!! :lmao:

I also told Angelina her first date was going to be her Honeymoon.........:rotfl:

She asked if she could go on a "date" when she was 12, I said, "Yea, right, come back and ask when you are 16!"
Mark had a friend who told his daughters dates to remember that what ever he did to his DD, the dad could do to him. :rotfl:

Helloooooo Everyone and Happy Monday!!!!

Guess what???? I came home from work, exhausted I might add, turned on my TV and it's fried, kaput, finito.

Ran to Best Buy to buy a new TV :scared1: :scared1: at the prices of TVs now :scared1: and while on the way to BB, ran over a nail and got a flat.

I think I better go to bed now :rotfl: :rotfl:
Gee, rough day. That is not good at all. Hope you have a better day tomorrow. I think you might need to break out that blender.

And here I was excited today because we were in the upper 50's.............:lmao:

Me too!!!:cool1:

Now that I'm finally ketchuped, I just wanted to say:

party: Happy Birthday Patty!! party:

Good Luck on your interview M! :thumbsup2

I see there is a group interested in ziplining in PV. It sounds fun, but I think my DD is too young. We are thinking of the Pirate adventure on the Marigalante or the excursion to Las Caletas. I would be happy to help coordinate a group excursion for one of these if there is interest.

I don't think we'll be hitting Senor Frogs again. This is a picture from last time. It was fun but now I can say I did it once, I don't think we need to do it again!

Notice my DS is the only one not sporting a balloon hat. He's way too cool!:cool2:

Mary this is a great fun pic of your family!!! Now you see that mile high drink you guys have....do you still have the straw.....that'll be perfect for drinking right out of the blender! :lmao:

Oh Mary and I just read about your DD's injury....sorry she got hurt and hope she's better real soon!

Oh Lorri not the dreaded Stomach Virus!!! That thing is like the black plague......take good care of yourself friend and feel better!

It is hot! My DS was so happy to head to water polo practice tongiht. He couldn't wait to get in that pool. It's a nice break after the cold (for us) winter we've had here.

I can't believe I wore black today! :lmao:

Did the horses enjoy their swim, too? ;)

Drive-by ketchup! Thanks for all of your good wishes. The interview went well. They aren't looking for anyone to start before July 1 - so we will be keeping in touch & I'll go visit when we get to DC. It sounds like I am pretty high on their list so far, which is good, but they also aren't looking for a committment for a few months, so I can keep looking.

OH - thanks for the suggestion! That book looks good. I think I interview OK because I can think on my feet (so to speak). I once got a job because I had the best answer when someone on the interview panel rolled an egg across the table to me and said "Sell this egg to us"

You're not being selfish and you don't sound horrible! What they should understand is that once baby comes along (no matter how) your lives and your relationship as a couple will change. Mostly for the better, but it will be different. You should take the time you have now to enjoy being a couple.

If you were pegnant, it would be perfectly acceptable to withdraw slightly from social obligations to have 'couple time'. Maybe you could tactfully remind your friends what it was like for them during the last few weeks/month as a childless couple.

**********

OK -AND everyone who is sick...just go get better already! Same for everyone who is hurt! (pixie dust to all! :wizard: )

OH and happy birthday to a few of you! :cake:

Hey M so glad the interview went well......you know you are so intelligent, charming and witty, how could they not want you!! Oh yes, and I shouldn't forget to mention that you also love

And here I was excited today because we were in the upper 50's.............:lmao:

If its any consulation to you - its supposed to 'cool' down to 84 according to my DH - course if it makes you feel better - last week I was cleaning up the closet and decided to pack away the shorts as this was winter right? WRONG! Yesterday was hot -today hit 94 and all my shorts are packed away except for the old raggedy jean shorts which I KNOW.....better than to get caught in. So DH says its too hot to cook - lets go out - we eat and realize DD needs to be picked up - DH gets sick on way and guess who has to step out and pick youngest up? :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

So here I am in ol'raggedly jean shorts - one size too big - with a tank top and overshirt on - I get out of DH's car ( a BMW no less - I know I know!) :confused3 but who should I run into but the Principal in her 2 pc suit and the mother of all cattiness - Room Mother Supervisor! OUCH! :headache: I can just hear the talk now...... :chat: :hyper2: whispering.....and she dresses like hobo!!! :hyper2: :sad2: In my defense - I was actually working on 3 things when I left the house - and I was distracted! :sad2: Oh well, love me or hate me - I'm too old to change! ::yes::

Good night everyone. I am going to turn in early. This time change is not going to beat me. Talk tomorrow.:)

Hazel made beef cubes, mac & cheese and green beans for dinner tonight.

Angelina is so excited about her job interview with Build-a-Bear tomorrow after school. She found out they were hiring from friends at school that had just given the store their two weeks notice.

Good Luck to Angelina tomorrow!! That sounds like a good job for a stinky teen Andy. My DD works at Drug Fair...nothing but sick, cranky old people......are you sensing a trend in my family :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I just ordered 2 sets of these. I hope it is fun. I had a GC for Barnes & Noble that I had forgotten I had.

Pirates of the Caribbean 2 Pirates Dice

Pirates of the Caribbean Pirates Dice. Think you can see through your opponent's lies? This dice set includes 4 pirate cups and 20 die that are similar to the ones shown in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. The dice don't lie but you might have to in this fast-paced game of trickery and deceit. Do you have what it takes to be a real pirate? To stay alive in Pirates Dice, you must bluff or be bluffed. To win in Pirates Dice, you must double cross your way to victory. "Never trust a pirate!"

Paula can we play this on our TOAL on Secret Deck 7????? If you lose you must take a swig.....(alcoholic or non of course)!!! Sounds like fun!

Holy Crud, excuse my French, but it's nearly 10pm here on the east coast, where has the night gone? I'm heading off the bed as well, wishing everyone a better day tomorrow for those who need it!!!!! :thumbsup2

Night All

Well...

... I have not finished the mailbox yet. I found I could not mount it as planned. It would have exceeded the USPS standards so I went to check with the local post master ~ he/she was not in - so I just decided to mount it a different way to get the overall height down. Then my spouse was running behind and I had to divert ot pick up the kids. BUt I did manage to knock off a half dozen other errands aside from the mail box being effectively 1/3rd done. At least now I've resolved a number of issues on the mailbox.

SO - I see it has quieted down a little. Normally by this time I expect to see a dozen of more pages posted and I start thinkin' ... am I gonna have any chance of catchin' up?

Now to switch gears a bit - on dinner. For me it's gonna be left overs I think. We have just a little bit of Chinese Curry Chicken and some "Daddy" style home made chicken (seasoned salt and Foreman Grilled). If this is not enough some rice and veggies then I was thinkin' of running out to Vons to a) pick up the rain check "Free Movie Tickets" we're owed along with some ground Turkey to whip up some more Turkey Joes. I still have a little sourdough bread that needs some Turkey Joes to polish it off.
