My youngest DS eats and writes righty ... but plays baseball and golf lefty :confused3 Actually, he throws righty, but can bat either lefty or righty. DH, my older DS and I are all righty. The first time I took my youngest on the golf course, I handed him one of his brother's clubs and told him how to stand and hold the club ... he looked up at me and said, "Um Mom?? I'm a lefty, remember?" :headache: :rotfl2:

Today will be a better day, today will be a better day, today will be a better day ... perhaps if I say it enough, I'll believe it enough to crawl out from under this rock ... :confused3

Morning all. Have an exciting day planned. Shopping for Tiara, formal wear, T_S***, fabric for Fish extenters, Fish extender gifts. Wow lots to do. Can you help me with who to contact about signing up for the FE exchange. :thanks:

Scene from American Beauty.........

Annette Benning: "I will sell this house today, I will sell this house today, I will sell this house today".

Just don't start hitting yourself in the face (like she did) if you don't :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Seriously, I hope you have a better day

we were on 10 day southern sept 2006 St Lucia,Barbados,Antigua,St Thomas &CC. We did a zip-line in St Lucia and can't wait to go in PV this trip.

So was I! And the rest of my family. ;) :yay: :yay: We had a WONDRful trip!!

Did you tell the people to go fly a kite!!!;) ;)

We were on the 10 sothern with Stephanie!!!:cool1: Do you recognize me??:confused3 :confused3

Of course Jon told them *NO*.:rotfl2:

Everyone saw YOU everywhere on the ship!!! :rotfl:

I plan on reading a ton of board information and getting more familiar with everyone. I don't want to overdo things. I have had many surgeries so I know the routine. Thanks for the advice.:)

You may not want to know us too well..... ;)

If you see me lying out on deck 9, please check whether or not I am breathing before you toss me overboard as a corpse. Another way to tell the difference is that I am considerably whiter than most corpses.

Having long since given up on getting a tan (not to mention being driven at least two shades more pale in terror from all the reports indicating that anything more than 45 seconds of sunlight increases your chance of getting Melanoma by 500%), I find I compulsively slather on sunscreen at the slightest hint of daylight.

Speaking of which - anyone have recommendations as two which sunscreen is best nowadays?

Someone after my own heart!!!! I use sonBLOCK not sunscreen. I'm totally ok with being white. DH is naturally a little *olive skinned* and so is 17dd. Everyone else is more like me......

I use Neutrogena Sunblock, Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch in either the 55 or 85 -- they came together in a pkg from Costco. :)

Haven't had a chance to catch-up, so don't know if this has been posted by anyone else. Here's a copy of an email I received today from DCL:

Thanks for posting this. They must have had a ton of complaints!!!

AC, what's that? We don't own AC. In this crazy town the philosiphy is that there's "only a few miserable weeks" and so people don't build houses with AC. Even the houses worth a million $$ don't have AC... But we're discussing that huge expense and having something run to the bedrooms at least because we can't stand being hot at night! Oh we also have no ducts in the house since the heat is all radient...

We wanted to put in central air when we bought this house while we were converting from electric to gas, but also had no ducts and nowhere to put them. We just have AC's in the bedrooms

So do I take that like a WANTED POSTER or just because I did not want to miss a thing!!:rotfl:

That might go for me too!!::yes::

In the central valley we need AC in the summer.....lots of days over 100. I hate being hot and sweaty and I can't sleep if it's hot!!!

Thanks for all the birthday wishes. As birthdays go, this one ranked right up there with the time in 4th grade when I had the measles, but I'm still alive, and now that I am coming down the back side of the hill, I guess every day I wake up should be considered a good day, right?

 We're glad that you're still alive. :)

This is a great answer. I am also really looking forward to all of those days of no cooking or cleaning!!!! Just doing laundry once if I can help it.

Me too! I don't mind cooking thaaaat much (if I have to) but hate laundry.

BTW....we finally ended up with a new car that was just dropped off at a dealership 40 miles away!!! Our dealer switched out another car to get this one for us. I guess the 5th time was the charm!!! :faint: :faint: We bought it while it was still on the truck!!!::yes:: ::yes:: It is tucked safely in our garage now!!:woohoo: We got another little Vibe by Pontiac!!! It is really made by Toyota for GM.:thumbsup2 This is a 2009 and we had a 2005. John drives far to work and we had 46,000 miles in just three years. Not exactly a luxury car but it does give us 33 miles to the gallon of gas!!!:worship: :worship:

Congrats on the new car (FINALLY), Cheryl

This is not something I have seen mentioned. Do any of you tan before you go so you won't get too burned? I know I just had surgery and I will cover those areas. BTDT.:confused3

I just bougt my first Rash Guard yesterday. I am usually a tanner, but was told to keep out of the sun for a year :( . I have also begun a nice collection of big floppy hats :rolleyes1

I will definitely lay in the sun for a couple of days before we go. Not because I'm worried about burning, but I don't want M to mistake me for a corpse & plop me in a lounge chair to hold her spot! :bitelip:

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Hello to all. I got home from the hospital this afternoon. All is good. I don't think I will be down for long. I have spent the last three hours catching up. Thanks for all the well wishes!

Welcome to the newcomers. This board is so much fun! We will have to keep doing it after the cruise by talking about the 'let down', laundry, getting the weight off, paying off the credit cards and all those things that happen when we get back to reality!:(

Glad your home and resting. Take Care :flower3:

Lately baseball is getting to be such a pain in the add with all the games, it's hot, DS doesn't want to go & now the coach! I was saying to DS at dinner, "Why don't we just forget about Little league next year & try Tae Kwon Do or something?" He said he'd rather try wrestling, but he agreed that he's fed up with baseball. Don't you know tonight he hits one all the way to the fence & the coach let him pitch for the first time ever & he did so well that he let him finish the game. Guess what? DS just loves baseball! :headache:

Congrats to DS, Diane. That's all it takes to boost that confidence. DD has been playing soccer since she was 4 and got her first goal ever last Saturday. Of course, with her, soccer is for socializing

Hello to everyone. I have been following this forum since it began and want to introduce ourselves.I'm Chris and my DW is Carol we booked this trip the day it opened and will also be sailing with DD Carol SL Bob and 3 GC Mike14 Matthew6 and Mikala4.The two youngest are extra-special to us and will share that story later. This is our 6th DCL cruise and can't wait. The information and chat here and at the pirate zone has been a great help for me planning this trip and want to say thanks to all who have put so much time and effort into making this happen.

:welcome: :welcome: :welcome:

We wanted to put in central air when we bought this house while we were converting from electric to gas, but also had no ducts and nowhere to put them. We just have AC's in the bedrooms

We're looking at a ductless system that has a unit outside and runs coolant through small tubes to each bedroom and each is individually controlled. I can stand hot days, but nights when the house doesn't get below 85 are just miserable. You can do stuff during the day to cool off but not at night. When I was pregnant, I slept with a wet washcloth and still woke up and drank a whole glass of water which just contributed to the having to pee in the middle of the night.... I was only a few months pregnant too! Can't imagine having a late summer or fall baby!

Christopher....this is great news, thanks for posting!

And I meant to say this before to June....good to hear your surgery went well. Hopefully your recovery will be a quick and easy one!

Dd's "lucky" number is 11. Every sport she plays, she HAS to be 11. But for good reason. She was born at 1:11 on 11/11.

It just so happens I was born a little after 9am on 9/9, so guess what my "lucky" number is? And my Godson's birthday is 10/10, so we have all 3 months covered! :)

That's cool! My brother was a smart kid - when he started playing footbal in about 3rd grade he chose #83 for his jersey. Even at that age, he realized that double numbers and numbers ending in 0 or 5 are popular & if there is someone already on the team with that number, you lose it. He figured if he picked 83 it would be his for life & it was all the way through HS football and college rugby!

I tried to convince my kids to pick an oddball hockey number, the didn't listen. They #80 & #70.

I had pre eclampsia with my Drew too! My legs were the same exact size from my lower calf to my toes. And I had pitting edema, so dh would poke my ankle and watch the spot SLOWWLY fill back in. He said "Oh man, you are like silly putty!" Nice, I am having your kid here!

Must be the name - it was my Drew as well. We drove from San Diego to St. Pete, FL in my 7th month (2 cars, so I had to drive). We would sit on the bed in the hotel room at night and actually watch my ankles & feet swell. I was the same size from my thigh to my toes - couldn't even get flip-flops on my feet!

It is amazing that we have 2 kids.

I am a right handed person in a left handed household :rotfl:
DH, DD, DS are all left handed. Even the dog scratches with its left paw

That's crazy!

Connecticut is like that! When we moved there in 2001, any house built more than 10 years ago didn't have AC - and all the newer houses were out of our price range McMansions. Most houses there have baseboard heat so not many people add a/c later since you would have to tear the house apart to put in duct work. Those were some hot summers!

Yeah, it's gettin' crowded under this rock.

Funny left hand / right hand story -
My parents were concerned that I was starting K when I was 4 - was off the charts on the early admission test I had to take, so they assumed I was intelligent - & despite hours of instruction, I just couldn't tie my shoes! Maybe I wasn't as intelligent as they thought. This was a problem. I had ugly Forrest Gump leg braces, so they couldn't just send me to school in buckle shoes. I had to learn before school started. Well, both my parents are left-handed. At some point, after weeks of trying to teach me, my Mom realized what the problem was. She re-taught herself to tie righty, showed me once and I got it!

morning everyone!!!

so glad to hear we won't be the only "white as a ghost" family!!!! I keep DD white and protected. I did too much damage to my skin back in the 60's and 70's!!!!!! I have been worried about this trip and whether or not to get a base tan for her, I hope I am doing the right thing!

the handedness thing: back in grad school, I did a handedness study with freshmen. I had to run them through a series of tasks to determine their true handedness. My prof. was doing the twin study. Anyway, one theory is that all true left handers are actually twins where the right handed twin was not viable. Twins are mirror images of each other as far as the "whorl" of their fingerprints and hair growth pattern, etc... I always found that really interesting. If true, does that mean that right handed is the norm??????:rotfl: not gonna get into that!!!!;)

have a great day everyone!

Where did you live in CT?

Things have changed regarding A/C around here. Everyone I know has it, at least in the bedrooms.

People have gotten so weak around here, they have let school out 1/2 day 2 days this week because of heat. It was in the 90's - hot, yes, but you're not going to die. They did not let us out in the 1970's - what's so different? Those were the days, we walked to school, 5 miles, uphill, both ways, fighting off bears with a looseleaf notebook....;)
