Then DH would die. ;) He hates people looking at him -- but, I guess if we had 20 kids he would have to get used to that! LOL! :lmao:

Oldest dd (24) always laughs when she hears me say *I only have 5 children.* She has said to me *You know most people think more then 2 is ALOT.* :rotfl:
We have started adding *And they all have the same mom and dad* Because we found out that most people thought it was a yours/mine/ours type situation.... Until they saw everyone together! :rotfl2:

Great looking family, Steph

I'm from PA and also not a Phillies fan. There is another baseball team in PA, although most of us have been trying to forget them for 15 years.

Oh I'm aware of the other....their new ballpark was on my list a couple years ago to get to. I loved the ballpark and the view of the city. I have friends here in Ohio who are die-hard Pitt fans; be it baseball, football or hockey....Pitt is only 3 or less hours away from us.

Yes I believe we are so you better have one of our cell numbers to give us a ring while you are there :) I was REALLY hoping to get a ball game in too so we'll see if I'm gonna lose out on that one :guilty:

I might still have your cell #'s, but if I don't I'll let you know. I will also give you mine.

Sorry I had to jump out of chat yesterday, a visitor turned up then we ended up going out for the evening.

This past week has been a little eventful to say the least...

My aunt (Mum's sister) in the UK has been unwell for sometime and was diagnosed with anorexia - she's in her 70's, they couldn't find anything physically wrong. They finally admitted her to a psychiatric facility and gave her another batch of tests and found it actually wasn't all in her head, she has pancreatic cancer which had already spread to her liver. This was last weekend they finally diagnosed that... and by this stage she was so weak and sick they couldn't even move her to a hospice - they gave her 2 months max to live.

I was then working away in Auckland, Monday-Thursday, and once I arrived in Auckland, one of the first emails from Mum was that she was catching the first flight to the UK on Monday evening - she always said she'd never go back to the UK for a funeral but was hoping she could at least see her sister before she passed.

I then got promoted at work on Friday - finally - good news!

I also on Friday spoke to my brother and he said the title for the property is now done so we should hear from the lawyers this week about buying the land in the country - only been waiting since Christmas for this.

Mum emailed to say she would be coming home next Thursday but we got another message this morning saying that she was at her sister's bedside as at this stage they were talking hours to live.

If you are religious feel free to say a small prayer for my Aunt for a swift and painless passing. That is all I am wishing for her at this moment. Although she lives in England, I have very fond memories of her when we visited and I will be sad to know I won't see her again.

A real week of ups and downs.

So sorry to hear about your aunt....

Hard to celebrate something with such sad events surrounding you, but congrats on your promotion!

I will definitely add her to my prayer list. And I will remember all of you as well. Family suffers a lot in these situations. You're all being prayed for.

We still have some old blue laws on the books here in NY - can't by alcohol on Sundays before 12 noon.

Indiana here. Cannot buy alcohol on Sunday at all. Period. Zip. Nada. Zilch.

Shelley, this is a fun event an may I quote Brownie Olympics slogan "Everyone goes home a winner". This will all be for fun. I will probably tone down most of the clues based on your statement. I still intend to throw a couple in that will make you think. We are all on vacation to get away from thinking right. Its suppose to be a fun family event and I hope you will join us Shelley.

Roger....I think the hunt sounds like a lot of fun! The kids will get a huge kick out of it. :thumbsup2

Well, I mean - looking at the picture you can understand their confusion. Here you are with a whole bunch of kids who look alike, and then you have this one with the giant ears and nose, unusual features, only 3 fingers on each hand and who insists on wearing a pointy hat and dressing in a funny red robe. I mean, you can't really blame people for wondering....:rolleyes1

I knew that!

It was a great response! Very diplomatic! ;)

Edited to add: I sort of got the idea that THIS was thread the OP was talking about, hense the reference to 1000's of pages!

Maybe we should start a "Captain Jack's Repo Thread -- Lite" and promised to post no more than one post a day on that one?! :)

Ah me.

When I first got on this thread, I was amazed and confused and overwhelmed as well. I dropped it for a few months and then came back as things got nearer. It is fast paced, especially when we're pirating to the next thousand, but everyone has been exceedingly cordial, imho.

If you feel you are "too inexperienced" to do the hunt, consider doing it by yourself with your family. Then you get the opp. to find the items you can without the pressure to compete with others sooooo much better at knowingn the ship than us rookies :) Still could be a fun family activity to find things together as a group.
that's a thought- but we'll have to see if the kids let us take them from the lab- they are so insistent they want to stay in there this time. LOL

Hmm... now that you mention it, I don't recall seeing them on the bar menus last summer. But none of the bartenders had any problem getting them for us (from any bar on the ship), so I guess they kept the top-secret chocolate smoothie making machine operational even after taking it off the menu (probably the crew trying to keep it all to themselves).

I don't recall the exact price, but I see a bunch of bar charges of $4.50 and $5.00 charges from last summer (and in our group it would be either smoothies or tea) so that would likely be it - though that might include VAT taxes (did VAT apply to drinks?), so it might be less on our cruise.
thanks for the info! Okay no wonder I never heard of chocolate smoothies- they were trying to keep it a secret! Well no more I tell you, NO MORE! :rotfl:

awww you're so sweet!
don't be offended if we don't participate- it doesn't mean there is anything wrong with the hunt! I think it will be a lot of fun. :)

Thanks for sharing the pic! Very nice looking family!
are all of you going on this cruise- even the adult kiddos?
I showed Rita the picture and she's excited about seeing your DD on the cruise (and even before that at her party! I replied to your email btw) :)

Congrats on the promotion, but I am so very sorry to hear about your aunt. She will be in my prayers.

I got you beat. We lived together for 11 years before we got married.
We had bought a house, had 2 kids-and then remembered we forgot to get married along the way. That was 8 years ago so we have been together almost 20 years now. :)

Congrats on the milestones.

I was stalked. I was on actually on another date and DW managed to invite herself in on it.

oooh sounds like a story! popcorn::

:lmao:

I know some county's in Kentucky are completely dry, or were...we would vacation at some of the parks down there when we were growing up...my dad was frustrated trying to find some beer. He saw a guy carrying a 12 pack and asked the guy "where did you get the beer?". The guy responded, "What beer? I don't know what you're talking about." and kept walking. He went into a convenience store and was pleading with the guy to help him locate some beer. I guess the guy finally said, "Leave a $20 on the front seat of you car and take a long walk." When he got back from his walk, there was a 12 pack. :drinking1

Sounds like something my father would've done! :goodvibes

Prayers for your Aunt and congrats on the job promotion.

I just know my DS would ask the servers at dinner & they managed to get him one every single night. :sad2:

Oh sure quote ME mentioning the thread "that should not be mentioned!" ;) :rolleyes1 :rotfl:

From what I understand, we are not allowed to have sub-threads to this one, which is why we have the website where people are free to chat about cruise plans. :confused3

We are a friendly lot though! :goodvibes

Since we have to have a mixture of banter and cruise related information, I have finally gotten this activity off the ground. I have wanted to do a scavenger hunt on the boat since last year. In the past I have made pirate maps for the kids and hid them around the house with clues leading to the next map. I tried to think of a way to transfer this idea to the Magic but I would really need to be on the Magic to come up with really good clues. Also having people stationed around the ship handing out the next map seems to be way to involved. So I did some research and discussed with Cherie and I think I have come up with a workable idea. I am open to comments, suggestions and help on making this a lot of fun. So here goes my idea.

  • We will make up teams out of those that sign up to participate. Depending on the interest the size of the teams may vary.
  • Each team will need one digital camera/team.
  • Each team will be will be given a list of items/places on the Magic that must be photographed with one of the team members in the photo.
  • First team that collects all of the designated photos and returns to the starting point will be deemed the winner.
  • The list of items/places may require some thought and knowledge of the ship.
Example: Paintbrush
Since this would be an easy one, the team would head off to Animators Palette and take a picture of the paintbrush outside the restaurant with one of the team members in the pictures. Trust me the actual list will not be this easy and will require all of your cunning pirate skills.

I would love to have a few volunteers that would be interested in coming up with items/places on the Magic for the list. Also help at the end to verify the winner. If you volunteer for this you will not be able to participate in the actual scavenger hunt.

I am thinking that this activity would be great on the sea day following Aruba. By that time people will have spent enough time around the ship to be familiar with most of areas.

This is a Great Idea Roger , ummm I mean Mr Cotton ....lol

Just stopped by to say hello..running around like crazy here trying to get ready for tomorrow. We are on our way out to a DVC Getaways Event...fun stuff to look at what you can do with your points (and I am sure to try and sell a few more but we are waiting for the villas at the GC to open) and some giveaways.

I am sure I won't be able to ketchup when I get home but I am sure if there is something important I will find it.

Have a great evening!
