It was just supposed to be a fun question...seems I do very well at upsetting people. I appologize. And btw..I am not in a suite.

Sorry maybe i worded it wrong... I've accepted that the suites get preferential stuff (as concierge)

but i have a problem with how as a society we have this "pay for better treatment" mentality being applied to services that everyone should have equal access to.

Yes the rich are getting richer but those of us in the lower income levels are pretty stagnant if not loosing salary every year.

Our department is not getting any raises this year...yet our health insurance and dental is going up... I can't do without that.. Now i have to do with less.

We are going to WDW for a week next month. I have had our WL ressie for a while. When AP rates came out I tried to apply them to my ressie. Well, I got 2 days at the AP rate and the rest at rack. I have been calling every day to see if any AP's come open. A WDW rep told me there was basically not a room to be found in all of Orlando while we are going to be there. :scared1: Now I know they are not all going to WDW but YIKES!! This is our 1st trip during the summer and that was making us nervous enough. This should b e very interesting.
Since we go frequently, we are not going to stress it.

I had just read that thread and responded!

I think it's wrong and IMO it doesn't make RCCL look good that they ban someone who gives them a bad review and refuses to remove it from the internet.
Yes I agree that if things were THAT BAD for them that they shouldn't want to continue to cruise with RCCL anyway- but that's not my point. LOL My point is that this doesn't give RCCL good advertisement.... who wants to give their business to a company willing to go to such lengths as this to keep people from complaining about their service and/or posting negative reviews? That doesn't sound like the type of company I'd want to do business with... (and if you read the entire article you'll see others were asked to remove negative info also- not just this one couple)

You can read my post for my other comments on this. LOL

Asking to remove a bad review that's fair is unreasonable. Asking someone to ammend it after compensation is offered to demonstrate a positive response by the cruise line to compensate them for their trouble would be fair, however it seems like RCCL is more upset by that than the original bad review?

By this measure, DCL's responses to the numerous booking complaints has been quite benign. As far as I know, Tom is the only person officially on the trouble maker's list. :rolleyes1

(Personally, I find this surprising, as I myself have a history of getting on pretty much any trouble-maker's list available. It's just been difficult to pull it off with DCL because everytime I hit them with a tough challenge, they ultimately come through with flying colors....)

With the rising cost of fuel, groceries etc. it does feel like we are taking steps backwards. I know what you mean.

Desiree's question is interesting, though. I personally would not pay extra to book early, but I'd bet many people would if they have lots of expendable income.

Now, I do think I'd pay in full earlier if it meant I get to book earlier.

I just finished looking at everyone's excursions on the pirate site. I am doing at least something with almost everyone. :thumbsup2

I just read the article. WOW.... Counselor TOM... you're really gonna get some DCL staffers in HOT water - maybe deseredly so - for the way they treated you.

With the exception of one, I have the highest compliments for the way I was treated by DCL and the politeness and helpfulness of thier customer service and other staff.

Yes, I'm much happier today, sleep works wonders.

Same here! Even though we are in a suite I didn't PIF until a week before it was due... I just wanted to make my ressies before the CC members. ;)

Our last cruise (the 10nt Southern) we PIF a year in advance -- when we booked the cruise. I would have loved to have booked everything and been done with it then!

I took French from the 9th grade all the way through college, and almost all I remember is how to call someone nasty names. :rotfl:

That was my favorite class in high school as well. One day the teacher was absent and the student teacher said, "I'm going to teach you all what you really want to learn in french. How to cuss and how to pick up others."

Wow. :thumbsup2

Did we pay attention that day! And not one of us said anything to the teacher when she came back. We were hoping for more. But that never happened.

So..a question...

DH and I were discussing last night about the total chaos that was Sunday Night/Monday morning.

The question is....how much would you pay additional just to get to book your excursions/spa/Palo at say 110 days (before anyone else). This amount is only to have the privledge to be "front of the line" and say DCL only offered it to 5 cabins to book this privledge.

I'm with Diane..... I'm paying top $$$ for the cruise as it is and could sail elsewhere. Why should the rich get more priority over the rest of everyone?

Not all of us can afford suites. Next you'll be asking if we want to pay extra for housekeeping... or better yet maybe they'll force all cat 10-12 customers to eat in buffets only with no wait staff.

Well....

.... since I'm a well established skin flint in these parts - I figured there's no harm in tossing in my 2 bits here...

< dramatic collective Groaning may now commence >

Let me begin by saying OUR sailing is a good deal considering what some of the other Disney sailings are costing my family on a per day basis WITH ports that are a bit out of the ordnary for Disney. AND... let me add that no other line has many of the special things we find so endearing... and there are MANY distictive differences.

Having said the preceeding... let me also confess that on the day we paid off this sailing (last week friday) we put a deposit on another cruise for 1/3rd the cost. Granted Disney is 15 nites versus 7 on this other unnamed line - but it also is the 2nd best cabin catagory on thier ship versus our Disney sailing in a humble window cabin. If we had taken a window on the newly booked voyage - the price difference would have been such that we could have sailed 4.25 weeks versus the 2 weeks on Disney. So it's slightly better then half the price of Disney. Plus - the ship sizes are nearly idenical with 89,000 versus the Magic at 83,000 tons ... however, the new booking is on a ship that was launched under a year ago and is their fleets' current flag ship.

Is Disney worth the 2:1 window for window difference? Well... obviously, we think it is worth the difference. And also, it is OK to try this half priced cruise line too. We've never tried it before - so how bad could it really be? We're going to find out.
< gulp >

Seriously, our position is we love crusing with The Mouse. That much is obvious. And the price... well... we know to each is their own ... and ya gotta respect that. Including that The mouse has priced thier "experience" the way that it is. I think it is within reason how they've priced it - however for some it will be kind of expensive while for others it will be cheap. As such - we have a "routine" in which we cruise - and we're happy with it. We try to sail roughly once a year with Disney but sort of skipped last year on account of a shift in priorities (we concentrated vacation time with family who were ill).

At any rate, we're comfortable with our window on the Magic - and we're thrilled to be going. We would probably not pay anything extra for booking early and might view charging for he privilage of being among the first as tolerable. Especially if it means every other cabin saves $20 or Mickey Bars remain FREE for all. However, if they began to charge for Mickey bars - I might view it as petty... while others might be Ok with it. So you see - to each is their own opinion, eh?

Put another way - wouldn't it be interesting to have DCL charge $500 for the privilage of being the 1st twelve to book... and IF they took that $6,000 to offer it as a $6,000 REFUND to someone on each sailing on a random basis!? Now THAT would be nice in my opinion... something they could promote the HECK out of and cost them nothing except the $6000 in lost revenue ... or from another POV... it would be comparable to having another vacant cabin on every sailing... or $306,000 annually allowing for 1 week in dry dock. OR... how about allocating that $306,000 for 6 weekly $1,000 service excellance awards to the staff that works so hard to deliver a great experience for us? THEY would most certainly appreciate the strength of this kind of bonusing? Yeah... the Mouse should not need another Dime - unless it results in at least 9 cents of value or free liquor for the rest of us!

At any rate ... may I now suggest that the collective goans may now subside.

We could always go back to those grand old days of three classes, where each class has its own dining room. Third class has the most fun down below, dancing their quaint immigrant dances. Second class acts as a filler between the two classes because they aren't very interesting. First class lives in thier luxury suites but are secretly miserable. And every hour or two a Leanardo DeCaprio look-alike stands at the bow and yells "I'm king of the world" for everyone's entertainment pleasure....

Seriously, I too am annoyed by the increased income disparities brought about in part by government/society choices. But at least as far as cruising is concerned, I am glad that for the most part, the fact that I choose to "slum" it in a category 11 does not mean I'm going to be locked below decks if the ship hits an iceberg somewhere in the Carribean....

That last part required a math alert! ;)

TPullingHerHairOut01BGIF.gif

BRAG ALERT!

DS9 is FAST. Like scary fast.

His school has a running club that meets once a week in the spring & they have a track meet with 2 other schools. That was last night.

DS9 (3rd grade) ran the mile in 7:20. Only 3 5th & 6th graders beat him.

THEN after running the mile he ran 3rd leg of the 4x100 relay. He got the baton in 3rd place - handed it off in 1st by about 10 meters. Not sure how fast he ran in the relay but he's run 14 sec. 100 meters in practice.

THEN he ran the anchor leg of the 4x400 relay. He actually lapped the last place team along the last stretch.

DH has always been a runner (track and cross country in HS), he usually finished 2-3-4 in track races, won a few. And DS isn't too far off the times DH was running freshman year of HS.

The dude is FAST!

Wow...I would be proud to!!

Fish extender list signup

Attention all pirates!
If you plan to have a fish extender, please PM me with your room number or GTY category
I will periodically post the list and will revise as cabin assignments come in

As a reminder: this is not a competition, and no one will judge the quality/quantity of your gifts, if you choose to give them out . . . it is about having fun and getting surprises in your fish extender. All you are promising when you sign up is that you will have something with pockets hanging on the metal fish outside your cabin door and would accept/appreciate goodies being left for you. I will also post on the pirate zone planning boards, but would prefer getting PMs here with the information.

A final list, organized by floor, will be available by a week or so before the cruise. Any last minute cabin reassignments/upgrades can be listed on my cabin door (6050) during the cruise.

This makes a TOAL even more enjoyable!
