We celebrated May Day in the Kindergarten yard yesterday. I thought you might enjoy a few pictures. Particularly those still suffering with sn*w. There aren't so many places where you can see these old traditions.
Here is the 7th grade entertaining us while the Kindergarten prepares. They're practicing for the whole school May Day festival tomorrow when they'll play for the 8th grade who, dressed in white and wearing flower crowns, will dance the May Pole. Yeup - those 14 year olds really do, even the boys, it's a rite of passage for them.
Ah, here comes the Kindergarten. Led by Jaren and Riley spreading the rose petals.
And here's our little one. The moms who's youngest child is celebrating their last kindergarten May Day get to help make the flower crowns. I helped Issac with his. It was really fun.
First some singing and skipping around the May Pole.
Then they get the ribbons. Nothing fancy, just more singing, and skipping around the pole.
Finally the kindergarten gathers to watch...
As the parents take their turn. There's Daddy, taking his turn around the pole. Of course, the gorwn-ups have to do a more complicated dance. It's great fun.
Happy May Day Everyone!!
