Hi

I need your opinion...I am really debating of bringing my laptop.. the major reason I am bringing it to make it easier to just download my pics..

Do you think this is a good buy.. so I will not have to bring my laptop.

or do you know of something else I could get instead...

Interesting heated thread over on the main board about hammock hogs
So what does everyone here think about this situation. Personally the hammock never really appealed to me as I don't find it that comfortable.

I really hated the Hammock Hogs last time I was at Castaway Cay - I really wish Disney would do something about it.

This is pretty typical of what it looks like in the LA basin most of the year. That is why we live outside (north) of this. Not to say we don't get smog, just less than living in this all of the time.

Back in the 80's I worked a few summers at a summer camp near Lake Arrowhead (above the smog line). Whenever I went home, I'd drive into that - at times it was like driving into a visibly brown river (and I believe things were worse back then than they are now, but I'm not sure).

That was the primary reason for me to move to Northern California - it's far from perfect, but it's better.

That looks like an interesting book. Did you read the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People first, or does this one stand on its own?

The 7 Habits of Highly Defective People

1) Be Reactive
2) Begin With No End In Mind
3) Put First Things Last
4) Think Win-Lose
5) Seek To Be Understood
6) Synergize? What does that word mean?
7) Sharpen the Saw. Use it on your enemies.

OK, I have done the budget for the on-board expenses.
I have about $900.00 on my Disney Rewards card, $654.00 suggested full tip for 4 and I am budgeting $750.00 for total tips which will allow me to tip extra. That leaves me an additional $150.00 for whatever.
In addition I have $4700.00 saved for expenses. That will be a total of $4850.00. Divided by 15 days it comes out to about $325.00 per day.
I am not doing spa villa but will be doing a few spa treaments- basically massages etc. I will probably have excursions at Acapulco, Cartegena and CC to pay for. All other excursions are already paid for.
I think I am in good shape and if I want something in addition to this I will still buy it.
Does this appear realistic?

I haven't actually worked out my budget yet, but one line item you might consider - laundry.

No, I don't mean coins spent while fighting for washers at 2:00am. I mean the "let Disney do it" laundry service. DCL doesn't gouge nearly as much as a high end hotel does. For $10/day per person you can pretty much stay in clean clothes the entire trip (and travel a bit lighter). It's a luxury, but hey - this is TOAL, right?

This was a promotion from my Disney Visa Card which gave me 5 times or 5% of every dollar I spent on gas, groceries, drug stores, and dining for the months of January, February and March for Disney Reward D:flower3: ollars. Usually there is a threshold amount but this time it was from the first dollar spent with a cap of $100 extra Disney Dollars. I did not receive any as yet so my account is being audited so I can get my extra money!! I am over $200 to put on my shipboard credit!!!:woohoo: :cheer2: I hope this makes since.:confused3

Wow, what a great deal! We never get picked for these type of promotions and DH and I each have our own account. :sad2:

Apparently the battery life was so good it was worth repeating.

Did I mention he thought the battery life was good?

Hey, I am working on 4 hours of sleep (total) for the past two nights and my 12th cup of coffee. My crash tonight is going to be lethal. My kids had better not do anything to rouse my ire or my corpse.

I've never used a hammock on CC -- I don't even remember sitting down on the lounge chair for more than a minute! It seems to me that there has to be a middle ground between someone putting a pair of shoes on a hammock all day to reserve it, and a person taking someone's things off the hammock because they went to get lunch . . . but clearly this is just going to be one of those threads that gets people all worked up . . .

Yes, when you log in and it is time, you should be able to go to your wish list and click "book it" and it goes much faster . . . for this particular cruise, there is no telling, though! When I have done it before, if you have put something like a particular spa treatment or Palo brunch or something on your wish list, all available times will show and you click on the one you want. If it is an excursion that only has one time, just that will show up and you click to book it. It's a great system provided the computers aren't too bogged down to work!

Thanks. Let's hope it will be that easy :thumbsup2

My Zune is 30 g. Too bad I can't use that for my downloads. Still need the computer link.:sad1: I'm bringing a few cards. Got them for really good $ last year so have lots of room. I was hoping to take DSs but now he tells me it is broken? Wonder how much to fix it? May be worth the expense.

I enjoy James Patterson, but for a two week cruise, I think I'd need about 4 or 5 of his books as they are such quick reads, much like Dan Brown. For this cruise, I might pack Lee Child's newest Jack Reacher book. I also enjoy John Lescroart's Dismas Hardy series, and am currently reading books by David Baldacci. I typically pick an author and stick with them for a while.

My DS started reading the Percy Jackson series which is very similar to Harry Potter (each book is a new year -- summer camp instead of Hogwarts and the kids are children of Greek gods instead of wizards). I went ahead and read them just to see why he liked them so much. The newest one comes out next week and he can't wait to start reading it.

I wlll have to mention this to Megan. She is always looking for a new series.

The new Janet Evanovich is due out June 17th. I doubt that I'll be able to "save" it for the trip, and even if I could wait ... I'd probably get it read on the cross-country flight out to CA. BUT, I'd be willing to bring it along and let someone else read it. You'll find me on a deck w/a book at some point every day ... one of my ideas of Heaven. I was worried about having to pack myself enough books for 2+ weeks of vacation. This book swap would be awesome for me :worship:

Is it the # series of one of the "filler" books? I would love for it be the #13 book.

Doing the Happy Dance!!!

PIF

YAY!!!!! Congrats!

That's a shame that she's not willing to admit that you can learn just as much outside of the classroom, especially on a cruise through the Panama Canal and especially during the first week of school! Our principal told me the first week of school was mostly about learning how to walk down the hall! :rotfl:

Kim

:rotfl2: Oh no, she thinks missing 1 day is detrimental to their future development. :sad2:

Hey Coral.... You have three peeps right?

So thats $30 a day x 15 days = $450

for only $200 or for my bar tab....i'll do your laundry for you.... :rotfl:

Good point. What I did last time was wash my clothes at home but let DCL press them for me. It was half the price and they did a GREAT job! I may go some simple stuff but will definitely use DCL services a lot.

I know we briefly touched on the subject of sharing books onboard
Time to revisit it again?

Who is interested and how should we go about setting it up?
I guess we should also have a plan for anyone who wants their book back when the other person is done

:goodvibes

Haven't finished ketchup, so apologies if things have moved on considerably since...last night! I'm still up for book swapping & will not want my book(s) back. I thyought some-one talked about hanging a bag on a fish where you dropped off & picked up books?

Thanks for the tip..i told my DD about it (she has read and reread Harry Potter until the pages are falling apart!) and she says it sounds great..we will head over to Borders today and get Book 1.

thanks!

:rotfl2: Yep- 3 peeps! I am not sure what I am going to do. I hang up almost all our clothes and never put them in the dryer. Can't exactly dry too well in the inside dungeon we will be in.
I also am not spending my time in the dryer room. I get cranky if I do not get my beauty sleep. :rotfl:

I just got the mail.
I already have the girls passports! :cool1: :cool1:
