That is our problem, also. We made the mistake of buying the really good *spinners* and they are a little heavy empty.....I may have to buy a couple of inexpensive large suitcases.... It will drive dh crazy that our luggage won't match! :rotfl: :rotfl:
I love the spinner bags we got, they are so much easier to move around with. But I'm not sure I want to pay extra to bring them. They are heavier. Darren refuses to talk about packing issues at this point:rolleyes:

I want to join in on this too. I have been good for the last 2-1/2 years with only small glitches at WDW and the holidays. I have really been making a big push since the first of the year. Now looking at your picture Laurie I think that I can take you in the first week. I now have a 10 pound cushion and I will still be in my ideal body weight range.

Now from the show the Biggest Loser I know not to compete with a guy where weight is concerned:sad2: It would have to be percentage gained or something. Not that I really want to win something like this. You can have the title of biggest gainer if you want:lmao:

I could tell you. But, then I'd have to kill you. :rotfl2:

Must be the y chromosome:thumbsup2

DOH!!!!!!! I was going to suggest an evening picnic at Gravely... (DH loves it there and room for the kids to run around) but 6 may be a little late. (5 would be better)

If that doesn't work how bout something near Tysons. It just makes for a long night trying to get out of the "city" when it takes us an hour to get home from DC.

Tysons sounds good:goodvibes

UGH, sometimes this Mom stuff really stinks :headache: My oldest DS has been told that he is dangerously close to NOT coming on the TOAL with us. He's a smart kid, just ZERO motivation, scatterbrained and super laid back. He's dropped letter grades on his report cards because he "loses" or "doesn't remember" his homework. He actually sits down every night and DOES the silly work ... but then can't be bothered to turn it in.

Lately, he's been "stretching the truth" regarding his work and his homework. He's always been a really good kid and never given DH and I any real reason to doubt what he's telling us ... that is until NOW  I got a note from a teacher last night ... or should I say I FOUND the note in his backpack, he "forgot" to give it to me. He's failing Reading because he's missing 3 of 9 assignments that he told DH and I that he did at school and just turned in late :sad2:

We laid down the law and made it clear in no uncertain terms ... that we are MORE than willing to take his cousin and leave his sorry self back home if he continues down this path. He's only 11 for crying out loud
The lying about school work and not turning it in-mine does it too:sad2: Off and on for the past several years. We found that keeping in touch with the teacher by email the only way to ensure he keeps up.

If it is close-ish to us, I might be able to make 5-5:30 and have DH & kids join us a bit later. DS9 has a baseball game that should end at about 5.

Tysons Corner is fine with me & probably a bit more central for everyone. I have no idea what is around there, though.

Gravely is the park just north of Reagan/National Airport just off the parkway. Great place to watch the planes come in. (Literally over your head).. Just don't leave your car alarm on :rotfl: if it's motion sensitive...

Most of the landings (or many more) take place in the 5-7 range.

Tysons has a few chain type restaurants in the mall and a decent food court.
In Tysons we usually do PF Changs or Maggianos (if we can get in). There is another one that we went to that was good and easy to get into, but I forget the name of it. It was a backup after we couldn't get into any of the other places.
Have you guys gone to Dulles air and space museum yet ? I keep trying to get into the observation tower to watch the planes, but the line is always too long:guilty:

Yeah but it's offset by the fact that Lynette had cancer and her boys burnt a restaurant down and Bree's husband almost killed Mike. :guilty:

Don't forget about Carlos going blind and Gaby trying to ditch his seeing eye dog:confused3 I love that show:lmao:

i sure hope I have the same luck.

Yeah! I am still afraid to use it at work. I somehow manage to offend half the office whenever I go in. I think that might be why I got to telecommute so fast. :rotfl2:
So that's how it works:idea:
Actually I don't qualify for the telecommute program at work until July, but hopefully I'll be working at home by September

Just trying to gauge how many people are actually really interested in doing this one night ... For those that are new or those who havent seen this talked about , there is a interactive script that goes along with Pirate of the Caribbean " Curse of the Black Pearl " Its very similar to Rocky Horror Picture Show , it's very fun to do and I am sure we would all have a great time doing this while they played it on the Dumbo Tron or (Ariel View ) to others ...lol I am trying to get a hold of Rachel the CD now to see if we could set a night , but this may one of those things that we may not know the night till we are on the ship. I am pretty sure they will have no problem showing the movie for us

...So What say you ?

If you are planning to do this , please go here and print the script for yourself and loved ones and pack it with you when you head to CA for our TOAL ...

Tom, Is this something we could add to the Pirate Zone ???
I'm in:thumbsup2 Sounds like fun:cool1:

FYI - anyone interested in a Cat 8, keep an eye on the DCL website, there should be one popping up soon.

I've just sent a note to my TA to cancel my parent's cabin.

I know some of you were reading that with dread thinking I'm canceling mine.

Nope.

I haven't made any job decisions yet. But I did decide that I'm going ahead with TOAL. It may not make financial sense, but I'm too emotionally invested in this cruise to miss out on it. I figure if I find a job within my current company, then it would make no difference. It would be as if nothing ever happend with my job. If I do end up getting laid off, I'll have my severance and can collect unemployment until I find another job.

The only reason I would cancel now is if something came up with DS. I'm off to search for trip insurance in case this does happen.
Glad you're going ahead with the trip:goodvibes Too bad your parents can't make it though.

Can someone explain what goes on in the Oceaneers Quest? Megan will be 12 and will be in that area. Is it like a normal kids club w/ full time activities?
I did not take the girls on the qualifying cruise. We have cruised on RCCL before, it is like that?
Is everyone upset just because they thought their kids were going to the Stack and now they are going to the Quest?

I'm not going to worry about it at this point. I figure they should know well before our cruise if the new set-up is working or not. We can always launch an email campaign in July if looks like they don't have it right:confused3

:cheer2: :cheer2: Happy birthday, Steve!:cheer2: :cheer2:

I will say it again. I am so glad Adam is graduating in a couple weeks:banana: I have never understood how any of them are able to work on the assignments and then just not turn them in:confused3 But they do.

When Porky's was first on HBO, my parents decided that my brother and I were too young to watch it, so we had to go to bed. We snuck back down, and hid under the Christmas platform so we could watch it. (The platform was 8X8 and took up most of the living room. It went right to the door to the dining room, so we were able to crawl in unseen.) Anyway, we got to a really funny part, and I was trying not to laugh, but I lifted my head up pretty quickly. I hit it off the tip of a nail that was poking through from holding down the train tracks. My brother had his hand over my mouth so tight that I couldn't breathe, let alone yell out in pain. So we got away with it, but it was a painful experience.

OUCH!!

Question about booking excursions - Do you have to do the online check in before booking excursions?

Thanks for any info!

Penny

I used to have big lime green scarfs tied on mine but the handlers would tie big knots in them (I guess they bugged them) and they got all ratty & torn. Now I'm thinking of putting some Mickey stickers all over them, but I doubt they'll stay. I wonder if I put glue over them if it would hold them better?

Sam's has some pretty rolls of wired ribbon for about $8. I don't know how well the stickers would stay on.

Yeah but it's offset by the fact that Lynette had cancer and her boys burnt a restaurant down and Bree's husband almost killed Mike. :guilty:

Wow, busy day at work and I can't sneak on for a few minutes and I end up being about 20 pages behind!

Here is some pictures of my siler dollar sized snow from yesterday!!

Looks like you got our snow from this past weekend. Unfortunately, we may get more this Thursday so look out this weekend!

We had the same thing earlier this year and found out that it was the teacher who was making not only our son, but many other kids in the class, feel like they were worthless. After trying many alternatives, we finally had to make a difficult decision to not only change teachers, but change schools. In hindsight, it was the best thing we could have done and wished we would have done it sooner. Fortunately, our school district allows you to attend any school as long as you get the appropriate approvals. Now our son is motivated, happy, turns in all homework and went from getting C's, D's and even F's (mostly for failure to turn in homework and not paying attention) to all A's and one B. We knew from assessments that he had the talent if he would just apply himself. This new teacher really makes all the difference!! We're all much happier.

FYI -
I haven't made any job decisions yet. But I did decide that I'm going ahead with TOAL. It may not make financial sense, but I'm too emotionally invested in this cruise to miss out on it. let us know about that insurance....I'm really looking forward to meeting you and thanking you in person for sending me the DL maps! Hopefully it'll work out.

I had the same dread last night when I told DD13 that it did not look like she was going to the Stack. Much to my surprise she was elated that she was going to Quest. I think that we have a bunch (big numbers) of 11-13 yo just in our group, so I am sure that they would have taken that into account on making this decision.

Many of you mentioned that you talked to your kids last night. So did we and both our kids were excited about being able to be together in Ocean Quest. I think our DS who will be 13 on the cruise was very nervous about this anyway. I trust that Disney will really create a new age appropriate schedule for OQ with visits to the lab, Stack, sports deck, movie theater, etc.....

Time for another round of the 7 question game...

1) What do you look forward to doing on our first day at SEA? Relaxing at Quiet Cove with my DW, a book and a BBC!

2) What have you signed up for (or are considering) among the various DIS diversions offerred here? IE, have you considered the Secret Mickey or Mickey Ice Cream Eating race? We are really looking forward to the Lush Tasting! My DW wants to do the Fish Extenders.

3) Have you picked up your air fare yet? If so - when are ya coming into town? We only have tickets to get to LAX on August 12th. We're still waiting to book our return tickets.

4) Doing anything special or out of the ordinary for this sailing (anniversery - or ??? being marked) My DW celebrates her birthday August 25th-the day we cross the Panama Canal! The day before we leave on the TOAL, we'll be celebrating our 18th Wedding Anniversary. Also, my belated 40th Birthday. My B-day is excursion booking day for CC members. I've asked (politely demanded) that I not get a present for my B-Day as the cruise is more than enough present for me!

5) What movies have you seen lately (or last) in the theater? Nim's Island

6) What was the last song played on your MP3 player?... orthat you recall listening to last? Kenney Chesney - Live those Songs - Live Version

Question about booking excursions - Do you have to do the online check in before booking excursions?

Thanks for any info!

Penny

Penny, if I remember correctly you only have to be registered onthe DCL site. You can fill out the online booking stuff anytime from the 19th on.

We had Brent in 2005 for our Mexican cruise. I question that I have is whether Ian will be on the ship? The kids loved Ian.

I love him too!

That's great news that the kids won't be counted as absent while on the cruise. My kids will also miss the first 6 days of school. We are flying home on Tuesday so that we can celebrate DD's 4th birthday at MK on Monday.

Coral, we are in TX also. Your post confused me a bit...do you know if this is a law for all TX schools or just something your school is willing to do for you? Our principal didn't mention anything like this when I told her my kids would be missing. She didn't seem to have a problem with it, but it sure would be nice if the kids weren't counted as absent in case they need the days later for sickness.

Kim

Kim-
I am pretty sure it is a TX law at least. You are not actually considered enrolled until you show up the 1st day. I have that confirmed by 2 separate principals in N. Dallas area and another in Abilene.

Monica, sorry about your parents cancelling. I hope they enjoy the reunion (if I am remebering correctly) I am so glad that you are still planning to go.

My DW just had to take off to my MIL's house to be with her while a serviceman visits tonight.

Her wiring went berzerk tonight....nothing works or when she flips on a switch something happens somewhere else in the house. For example, she turned a burner on her stove on and a light came on the living room. Her Microwave doesn't work nor does her washer and dryer. She called the KB Homes emergency number and was told that it sounds like a ground wire got cut. I had never heard of such a thing, but it would be making me very nervous.

It's a fairly new home -- finished construction 2 1/2 years ago.

Actually feel like there is some improvement today. Had some strength back in my index finger and thumb :thumbsup2
That's C6 or something, right:headache: Same fingers I had problems with too. Consider steroid treatment if it doesn't get significantly better.

Serious non-cruise question I forgot to ask on Saturday....

No image posting from crackberry :(

Tom, I forgot to ask Ellen your pirate run secrets on Saturday:rolleyes:

Congrats on the pirate:goodvibes

I was one of those parents who dreaded telling 13 year old DD that she wasnt going to the stack - I broke the news to her last night and surprisingly she was OK with it. Could it be that she realized that she is lucky to be going on her 8th DCL cruise when all her friends are in school and it doesnt matter where she hangs out - probably not but who cares - as long as I dont have to deal with an attitude its all good.

She has our 8/15/09 Tortola Cruise to look forward to when she will be 14 and can then go into the Stack.

I had the same dread last night when I told DD13 that it did not look like she was going to the Stack. Much to my surprise she was elated that she was going to Quest. I think that we have a bunch (big numbers) of 11-13 yo just in our group, so I am sure that they would have taken that into account on making this decision.

Glad to hear both your dds didn't get disappointed. :)
