Hope everyone in Illinois and Kentucky is safe and sound from the early morning earthquakes.

We went to the Celebration all you can eat pie event two years ago. The kids LOVED it and ate LOTS of pie. Lisa's Gymnastic Regionals were on this weekend the past two years. We head to Huntsville AL on Saturday for her meet Sunday morning. This meet determines which Level 10 girls can advance on to Nationals in May. Please say prayers and pixie dust for her on Sunday at 8am that she competes at the level she is capable of.

Best of luck!

So here is something…
I just got off the phone and I’m going to be published.

OK, in a book only media nerds and coerced undergrads are likely to read, but I’m going to be published! In grad school, I wrote and independent study (our term: co-dependent study) paper with a classmate about patriotism and consumerism post 9/11. Nifty things like flag-waving ads by companies that were off-shoring jobs, etc. ANYWAY, it was just accepted as a chapter in an anthology about pop culture and 9/11. YAY!

Awesome - congrats!

Evening,,

What is it with Thursdays?

Two back someone set fire to my place of work,

One back stuck around the other end of London on the M25,

Tonight had to go to London to see Doctor for DD, and her ear issue is back again,

Ah well,,,,,

I am taking next Thursday off,

Thanks for Pirate newsletter,

So those deck party dates confirmed?????

Prayers for quick healing!

There’s always one in the bunch.

Next week(Wednesday -Friday) Tyreak will be heading to VA and NC on a college tour. They are going down on a charter bus, spending two nights in a nice hotel and will visit 7 HBCUs.

The best part? The trip is FREE. :yay: All of the schools have agreed to waive the application fees if the students fill out paper applications while they are on campus.

Well, tonight was parent/teacher conference night. I informed the dean, and academic AP about the trip. They were fine with it.

Five of his six teachers were also fine with the trip. They all said he could make up any missed work. (I did not request this). He will miss three exams during the trip. Two teachers will allow him to take the exams when he returns to school. (I did request this)

One teacher will not allow him to make up any missed work or the exam. She insisted that I should not allow him to attend the trip. She informed me that the days would be marked unexcused.
She said this isn’t a school rule, but a state/city rule that has been in place for the last 30 years and applies to both public and Catholic schools. (Tyreak attends a Catholic school)

I took this same trip with the same youth group when I was in high school. I never had a problem getting the days marked excused and being allowed to make up missed exams. This agency has been doing these trips since the early 80s. They’ve never had an issue with the kids (they attend public, private and Catholic schools) being marked unexcused or not being able to make up missed exams.

Tyreak and I both love this teacher. However, I was furious with her tonight. I can’t understand why she would have a problem with him missing school to go on a college tour.

I wonder how she feels about the track team missing two days next week to attend the Penn Relays?

Did you talk to the guidance counselor? Usually college visitations are considered excused absences. Unfortunate that one teacher must be making it miserable.

Planning alert!!!
For those of us waiting for Southwest to open their flights for our return home, they are supposed to do so today. There's nothing up on their website yet. I heard that they usually open for booking at 11 am EST, but I don't know that for sure. I'll be checking them every so often today.

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
I love it! Of course we are all way more obsessed with this cruise than they are.

Ya, can you imagine coming into work every day... One of the TrOAL people called again...One of the TrOAL people emailed again... jeeze people we don't have your itinerary, ya know we have thousands of other people cruising too. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Just needs a tall-ship or two in the harbor!!

Too funny....I was talking to my boss and a co-worker this week and he was asking me when my cruise was this summer. He had forgotten that we were going through the Panama canal. He said so you're going to start in LA, visit Disneyland and cruise for 15 nights and end up in Florida. He asked if I was going to DisneyWorld. When I told him not this time, he said, "Whew...for a minute there we thought you were a Disney fanatic".

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

so i can't have the winery ship a case to the ship?? HMMMM. Since I am not bringing my kids and it is only DH and I, can i borrow a large number of kids to carry my wine???:rotfl2:

Congrats M

sorry about your day andrew..

perhaps we can set up a rent-a-kid program... gotta raise funds for the TOAL.

Hope everyone in Illinois and Kentucky is safe and sound from the early morning earthquakes.

We're doing okay in Schaumburg.:thumbsup2 Just a few things rattled on the nite stand and shelves. Thanks for asking Tom.

He is a member of our group and posts here from time to time.

I didn't remember the name or sig.
I guess I should have also mentioned that one post into the thread and there is already snarkiness.

Good morning everyone! I guess we had some rockin' and rollin' in the midwest this morning. I slept right through it. Hope you are OK Paula. Cheryl did you feel it?

51 and going up to the 70's! Spring finally.

Apparently we have a priest on our cruise. He's taking a poll asking who would be interested in Mass or a non-denominational service onboard.

- Schools don't get paid for absent students, so every absence costs them money.

- She's a power tripping bureacrat who believes she knows better than you what's good for your kid.

- She's an anal perfectionist who will always do what is in the "rules" rather than what is right.

Ah... there are probably dozens of other reasons all equally stupid, and all of which assume that somebody else knows better than you do.

I've met some wonderful, creative and flexible teachers over the years - but I have little respect for those who lose sight of what is truly best for their students, or assume that they have a monopoly on that judgement.

You said it for me. But I'm sure the Track team and other sports groups don't have this issue. Schools tend to look the other way.

We're doing okay in Schaumburg.:thumbsup2 Just a few things rattled on the nite stand and shelves. Thanks for asking Tom.

Rich was talking about it this am. I figured Ccheryl slept right thru it.

M, In regards to the snarkiness of the post, I agree it is off base. This offer was made to those who are wanting to participate.I personally don't get it. When we were on our last cruise it was the same time as Hannukah. There was a Rabbi and his family onboard and he held services on the ship on Deck 2 .All were welcome. There were some non jewish cruisers there checking it out as well as some officers. The ship provided lots of potato pancakes etc..The poster needs to get over it! I for one don't see why offense was even taken.:confused3 :confused3 Just another crank like DJs teacher.......TGIF
