Thanks, M, for your post about the sunscreen. I was able to pick some up, along with a few bottles of Finding Nemo sunscreen for DD. My Dollar Tree also had temporary pirate tattoos!

Can someone explain the fish extenders thing to me.

I think I signed up for Secret Mickey, is this different?

How do I go about making a fish extender? Does anyone have any pictures? I am seriously craft challenged...

Here's a pic of ours! I'm a terrible seamstress so, don't look too close. ;)

I need to add dh's name to ours (right next to mine) -- Zircon.

I have bought a couple of hundred fish extender gifts so far. I am ready for at least 2 days of deliveries to everyone!!! I got some great deals on Ebay for some really nice gifts! On the 10nt I was able to put pins in since I got such a great deal on them!!! So, far not this time but, at least one of the gifts has the same value! :goodvibes

The "gifts" that we leave...do we mark them with who they are from or does it not matter? I just want to make sure that I do this correctly.

Thanks!

Desiree

Some people do, others don't . . . it really depends on what you are giving and how easy it is to label . . .

I saw that the WB assigned days. Honestly I'm not sure I like that. I just spread mine out over a few days, whenever I had a few moments to deliver. We didn't get something every day on the Med repo but it was spread out enough without assigning anything.

I know I won't be up to assigned days -- I deliver when I have *down time*. Which is usually a couple of decks at a time.

GO STARS!!!

Does anyone have any idea how many fish extender gifts are needed per person? If everyone participates, it could be huge - aren't we well over 150 DIS families? Are we all exchanging with everyone or are we breaking up the list or something? I guess I'm getting concerned about the cost - even a cheap 50 cent gift (and I would prefer to do something nicer than that!) would add up to at least $75!:scared1:

Pamela

Which is why I started buying last year. :goodvibes I've bought about 200 @ about $1 each..... I'm really excited though since one of the gifts (I think I have either 50 or 75 of them) is valued at $5!!! SO, far everything I've bought is a Disney item.

We got all kinds of great things on the Sept '06 10 nt -- stickers, temp tattoos, little bubbles, magnets, all kinds of cool things!!!

It was pretty cool. I think the neatest part was that over half of the 24 finalists found each other via discussion boards and we were able to get to know each other during the experience. Plus, we had a whole board here on the DIS that would give us encouragement and hung in there with us through the whole process. It was a really great life experience.

I am a big believer in "everything happens for a reason" so I am just waiting for the next big adventure. Oh, I know what that is, THE TOAL!!!!

Got about 50% of planning done, I am feeling pretty good. I actually made a full list of the things I need to finalize and a (WATCH OUT, SCARY WORD COMING) budget.

So I am feeling pretty good. Plus, I have all the packing done. GO ME!

Sorry, you didn't make it. It sounds like it was a great experience and that you met some nice folks. :goodvibes

Do you have any idea how many people usually participate (percentage). Even only 50% puts us at 75 to 100 families (I don't have one of Tom's great newsletters here right now to check the latest count). I really wouldn't personally feel comfortable just throwing in a few pieces of cheap candy and then receiving lots of nicer stuff - if it is totally outside my budget, I'll probably just opt out of the "official" event and maybe just give surprise gifts to all the DISers on my deck or something....

Pamela

On the 10nt Southern with the first gift I gave out I did one for every Dis cabin. After that (I think I had 2 more gifts to give out) I did only the DISers that participated on the board or had children.

I am so excited to be officially involved now, especially with a drinking committee, I mean fish committee. Yee haa!

Also, I did not laugh at yours, I actually thought to myself that I could possibly try that. Not likely, but possible. How did you do it without sewing. I am sure I have a sewing maching somewhere in my house...

I am capable of using a hot glue gun and/or stapler. I am fantastic with a Calculator though! Good think I am in the banking industry...

Here's mine. No sewing involved. Just a hot glue gun and scissors. I folded a long strip of fabric over a wood dowell. Glued the sides together to make a seam. Used a different fabric and cut pockets, then glued those to the big strip. Wrapped some ribbon around the ends of the dowell and there you go. Oh and used stickers to put my screen name on it.

Thanks for the info..We have a Disney outlet store here. I think I will look there for some items.

Have a great day!

DD is going on her own. I would seriously go over the edge if I sent her and something happened to her. This way - I could keep an eye on her on the flight there and back the rest is in God's hand.

If you did decide to just fly her out.... I could help out on this end if she lands at Dulles. And if you needed an emergency contact in the area don't hesitate to ask....

All the best, !!

pirate: 'ing for a speedy recovery.....

Even one per cabin sounds like a HUGE undertaking if we are actually talking 150 to 200 cabins!

I don't really think we will have 200 cabins....

and many families have 2-3 cabins which may account for some. The gift i am trying to get is a "one" per family kinda thing so would have to share.

It will depend on how someone signs up for our list.... (i'm personally hoping for the 50 range as my item will be bulky and i'll have to mail it out ahead of time.

I almost wish I was rejected earlier for the mom's panel! I made it to the last 24! So I had a phone interview and everything, THEN was rejected! It was such a sad time for me. As soon as I hung up the phone, I knew I wasn't going to make it because I really just babbled and babbled and babbled. I am a talker, but I can usually control myself. I was just too excited I think. So I had a little bit of sadness about the whole thing. I was in an email group with about 15 of the other 24 finalists and I think they did a great job of picking the Mom's Panel and everyone of the finalists that I "met" was wonderful!

I am so happy for them but I think it is a really hard job that you don't get paid for, so in the end, it is probably better that I didn't make it. (Plus, the week that they went for training my son was super sick and I lost hearing in one ear and was pretty sick too).

Anyway, that was my super exciting experiece, I didn't sleep for days as we had a lot of waiting between moving to the next group. Sigh...I still wish I could go back and redo that interview...

PS, I keep telling everyone that I am glad I didn't make and in reality that is true, but between you all and me, I still wish I would have!

:thumbsup2

Blah, blah, blah, refund. We owe. Waited for that reason.

DW and I got a refund, so that was sent out long ago. I mailed out the kids' yesterday since they had to pay PA income tax for interest earned. Whatever happened to no taxation without representation?

2) I was just checking to see if anyone was paying attention. I do NOT have any packing done. Just messing with y'all.

I was paying attention. After I picked my jaw up off the floor I read this one. I was amazed that you were all packed. We have a couple "cruise boxes" going, but nothing officially packed.

Give what you take!

Back up your can!

Sounds like a new chip dip! SpreadSheep, try some today.

I think I'll pass...but thanks anyway Tina!

Hey guys - for those of you in the know - we got some results back FINALLY and it doesn't look good - so I may be a bit absent but I'll be popping in and out.

Sending best wishes your way.

We got two things from ebay. One of them was valued at $25 (not that I would pay that much for it) that I got for under a buck! The other was less, but I still think it's a cool thing.

We'll probably ship the one gift to the hotel, then repack them into the suitcases. That's what we're planning to do with the sunscreen too. Twenty bottles gets pretty darn heavy!

Even one per cabin sounds like a HUGE undertaking if we are actually talking 150 to 200 cabins! The cost is huge and the amount of space in the luggage could be huge. Most cruises that do this seem to have 10 to 30 cabins which is very do-able - but the shear quantity here is starting to scare me off. :scared1: I would love to do it, but I can't afford to spend $100-$200 or more on this plus the cost to bring extra luggage ....  I could probably handle 50, but 3 to 4 times that amount is just scary.

Pamela

i feel the same way PAM.

That looks great Monica!

PS I saw yours and Trevoy's brick from Disneyland over on the DL boards. We have one right outside the Magic Kingdom at WDW, but we don't have the cool little acrylic replica!
