Very cool. We saw the tall ships in 1976 in NYC. It was really nice.

ATA just filed for bankruptcy!
effective yesterday it seems...

Check your tickets if you have reservations with them! They've ceased operations entirely - so it's not as if they are operating while in reorganization....

Regretfully, I have 4 tickets to Honolulu with them for December ...

... $1500 or so that I'll have to see about wrangling in trade with another cooporating airline that serves Hawaii. The ATA home page lists the options open to me (? us) and we also have a chance of getting a refund through our credit card it seems - according to the home page - but who knows?

I gotta get on this now!

Is this Aloha??? They posted this on their website on Monday. United and another Hawaiian airline is covering the flights as we have been told.

Good luck Crash. Aloha just folded earlier this week and so those passengers are scrambling too. A friend of mine was supposed to fly to Honolulu next weekend and is having a heck of a time finding anything decent. They could fund an extra vacation with the cost they have to shell out for replacement tickets.

There's some nice information on this thread

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1777187

and it seems that if you paid by credit card you can just get refunded . . . however, you are still stuck with getting replacement tickets, of course. Sorry about this, Crash.

Wow! Super-cool! :cool1: :cool1:

I've always wanted to see one of these events. There have been some in Chicago (probably smaller since there are only so many tall ships on the great lakes anymore) but have always had conflicts and couldn't make it downtown. I think I need to buy more memory cards for my camera!

April baby too - see I knew I liked you.

Last year I didn't buy insurance until July, so no it's not too late. And it wasn't overly expensive either. I had to find one that would cover existing conditions since because of my mom's heart troubles and we only paid $312. That was to cover us for 3 weeks, 1 in Paris and 1 on the cruise. There were other less expensive options, but I liked the benefits that this one offered.

I just bought our trip insurance earlier this week. The only thing we lost by not doing it immediately, is coverage for pre-existing conditions. We do have trip cancelation coverage (for things like a sudden illness or a death of a close family member) We added some extra medical since an emergency evacuation from some of the areas we are going to would probably be very expensive. Our total for 2 adults and 1 child was $361.

A friend forwarded this to me today:

Subject: Proposed Mastectomy Law Change (written by a surgeon)

I'll never forget the look in my patients eyes when I had to tell them they had to go home with the drains, new exercises and no breast. I remember begging the Doctors to keep these women in the hospital longer, only to hear that they would, but their hands were tied by the insurance companies. So there I sat with my patient giving them the instructions they needed to take care of themselves, knowing full well they didn't grasp half of what I was saying, because the glazed, hopeless, frightened look spoke louder than the quiet 'Thank you' they muttered. A mastectomy is when a woman's breast is removed in order to remove cancerous breast cells/tissue. If you know anyone who has had a mastectomy, you may know that there is a lot of discomfort and pain afterwards. Insurance companies are trying to make mastectomies an outpatient procedure. Let's give women the chance to recover properly in the hospital for 2 days after surgery. Mastectomy Bill in Congress it takes 2 seconds to do this and is very important .. please take the time and do it really quick! Breast Cancer Hospitalization Bill - Important legislation for all women. Please send this to everyone in your address book. If there was ever a time when our voices and choices should be heard, this is one of those times. If you're receiving this, it's because I think you will take the 30 seconds to go to vote on this issue and send it on to others you know who will do the same. There's a bill called the Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act which will require insurance companies to cover a minimum 48-hour hospital stay for patients undergoing a mastectomy. It's about eliminating the drive-through mastectomy' where women are forced to go home just a few hours after surgery, against the wishes of their doctor, still groggy from anesthesia and sometimes with drainage tubes still attached. Lifetime Television has put this bill on their web page with a petition drive to show your support. Last year over half the House signed on. PLEASE!! Sign the petition by clicking on the web site below. You need not give more than your name and zip code number. http://www.mylifetime.com/community/my-lifetime-commitment/breast-cancer/petition/breast-cancer-petition

This takes about 2 seconds. PLEASE PASS THIS ON to your friends.

Lorri: hi!

thank you for sharing that! I signed and passed it on!!!:)

For figuring the amount, I just did the trip total (there was the option to do it by person or the total value). I added up the cost of the cruise, airfare to and from, and hotel deposits (only the non-refundable part of the hotel since most you can cancel with 24 hour notice - so I just counted the 1st night deposit)

You'll still get hit with looking at a couple different policies. We used Travelex Travelite this time (and for our last cruise). We have also used CSA in the past. I always try to read the details on the stuff like travel concelation, delay, etc. since that can really vary from policy to policy.

I'm still usually a little freaked out when I make the decision and buy since I feel like I don't really know exactly what is covered and what isn't - I usually just tell myself that it HAS to be better than NOT having coverage and hopefully, we will never need it. My biggest concern on this trip is having enough medical coverage since we are going to be very far from home.

Anyone have any experience introducing a new cat to the house with an existing cat? Any advice?
We got Sprinkles (see below picture) from the pound a few years ago. Well a kitty started hanging around our neighborhood a couple of weeks ago. Apparantly no one knows exactly where he came from but no one is claiming him (Well DD's said a woman came over and told them that is was her cat but "we could keep him" :sad2: ). She said she lived a couple blocks away but no way to know who she is now.
He is just precious but I really do/did not want another cat. Well after a few days DH set up a bed, food, water, litter box and toys in our garage. He is a HUGE cat lover and many cats have made it in our house via Bill. Well here comes "Tiger". DH brought him in today and he has been asleep on my bed all day. We have kept Sprinkles in another room all day and she will NOT be happy there is another cat in our house.

I am absolutely amazed at the skill of the plastic surgeon I went to.
I looked like a train wreck last week after the surgery. Now, it is just amazing! He took a pretty substantial hole in my nose and in a week and a half it looks almost normal. He hid all the stitches in the curve of my nose and you cannot see any marks. It still just a bit red. Wow! I think I am going to start saving for some more work that guy can do on me. ;)

Yes, I've got another set of maps. Just PM your info.

As for insurance, I entered my total cost of cruise, airfare, hotel. I didn't go exact just rounded up. Then when looking at the options, I go for one that has medical evacuation separate from the medical. If we are out in the middle of the ocean and you need to get off the ship, a helicopter could get quite pricey. I don't want my actual medical costs getting eaten into by the evacuation cost. I also pay attention to what is covered under the trip cancellation to see who will cover the most.

Can someone point me in the direction of a tip calculator? I know there's info on the main board but I just don't feel like venturing over there today.
