uh, I really don't want to have to do that. :(
I need to find out for sure the changes- am I right they are proposed to actually change on May 10th and our TOAL is due on the 9th? wonderful...

The thing is she has to miss some school but I don't want to leave her out since it may be our last "big" vacation before she's grown! I mean when is a TOAL gonna happen again? It is after all a TRIP OF A LIFETIME LOL
But what is the point in her going- missing a week of school, missing summer band camp, etc. if she gets to go only to be bored to tears? :(

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Final Payment isn't due until the 19th.

What about someplace out west that is typically a ski destination? Lake Tahoe, Big Bear, Aspen, etc. They have great activities (and great deals) to boost year-round tourism & it is closer to your part of the world.

Thought about those. Surprisingly there's no availabilty for June.
I think I've just about decided on Vegas which is weird because I've always said it is not a vacation spot to take kids. But we could do some of the non-Strip stuff and relax at the hotel. Plus DS loves Todd and his family so if we got a chance to hang out with them, that would be cool.

I don't know what you mean about "maybe just turned 15"- just turned 15yr olds aren't 13/14yr olds like they are talking about not having in the stack anymore- they are 15.. not 13 or 14. Doesn't matter if they just turned 15 or not- they are 15 not 13 or 14.
Anyway, not all 14yr olds are like you describe.

My DD is only 14 and she is in High School this year... It is a big difference in just a year and the stuff her friends talk about are like :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: If you don't think they are exposed to all kinds of stuff..you're wrong..... Our HS has lots of kids in both heterosexual and alternative lifestyles and they make out in the halls and stuff (don't even get me started on that. :scared1: ) My dd has to deal with alot in HS..... You'll see next year....

My dd is also one of the youngest kids in her hs class.(ie she doesn't turn 15 until the end of May) so in august even if she were going she'd be one of the youngest 15 yo's. The kids i know she'd get along with better would be 14 and therefore both kids could not join in the same activities. GWIM.

Last cruise it was the same...SHe was barely 13. THe other girls were still 12. The 12yo's could still do Lab stuff ...She could not....

And Ocean Quest was a joke......

Hey on another note...

SNA is closest airport right? But I looked at the flights and it cost a bit more from here to SNA than from here to LAX.
is either one easier and/or an "important" amount cheaper or more expensive than the other to get from airport to disneyland? I mean I don't want to spend more on flight to get to a closer airport- if the flight is cheaper to LAX and even though it's further away maybe it's bigger and has more options for transportation to disneyland? anyone help me out on that so I can make a decision on our flights?
(I have to also consider that first me/3 kids will be flying in and need to get to disneyland- HoJo's actually.. and then a few days later DH will have to do that also- on his own)
help please!

I'm flying into LAX b/c it ended up being significantly less expensive for me. I believe there are shuttles from LAX as well as SNA for reasonable rates....similar to what MEARS in Orlando was prior to Magical Express. http://www.wdwinfo.com/Disneyland/transportation.htm
or
Transportation from LAX or SNA

Disneyland® Resort Express - Scheduled pick up from both JWA and LAX airports from in front of the baggage claim areas. (800) 828-6699.
Super Shuttle - Van shuttle service, reservations required. (714) 517-6600.

Hopefully Roger comes on here and posts a link to his blog about the different airports. (the link i have is on my computer at work.)

I'm flying into Long Beach.... Jet Blue... Direct flight for us.....Gonna love the TV and satellite radio. I could have flown SWA but they don't have any direct flights. (I'm not up for another 2-3 hours travel time.) SWA has most of their cheaper flights to LAX. They do go to Ontario but usually more $$.

Long Beach is a small airport so less chance of getting lost for me. The drive to DL is closer than LAX and doesn't look too bad. Hey we've survived DC traffic for over 6 years. LA can't be that different.

DD needs some answers for her Homework assignment. If anyone is interested inhelping???
place in order the importance of these inventions with 1 being the most important
toothbrush, car, microwave, cell phone, personal computer

Which invention(doesn't need to be on this list) is the most important to you and why?

She also needs your age and gender.
Thanks for those of you answering

personal computer
car
toothbrush
microwave
cell phone - yes I have and use one, but hate that everyone thinks just because you have a cell phone that you can be reached any day/time and get angry if you don't answer

most important = heart and lung machine, without it, my mom's heart surgeries wouldn't have been possible and her life would have ended prematurely

female, 38

That's what I thought! and then I noticed on our papers from our TA it says final pay due the 9th.
hmmm
so if you use a TA you need to pay in full early?

Yeah, I'm sure I'll see next year but not all places are the same and not all kids are the same. Just because she'll be exposed to more of this next year doesn't mean the first time I want her experieincing it is on our cruise before she's in highschool- yanno? I'd rather not have to be worrying about exactly what my daughter is seeing, experiencing, learning, etc. from the older kids while I'm trying to relax on a vacation! LOL

both my then 12yr old and my then 8yr old weren't all that impressed with Ocean Quest to be honest...... the novelty of it wore off after the very first full day.

Maybe it should be 13-15yr olds.. together. and 16-18yr olds together. Cause I can see how a just turned 15yr old would be better grouped with 14yr olds- I can see that.
And kids can be so different- physically, emotionally, maturity, etc. -oh boy do I know it... WIDE ranges in all those areas in our middle school here. I know it's difficult for them to figure out age groups but it would be nice if they weren't so strict with it- such as if a child barely turned 13 and isn't super mature (in many ways) they should let them be with 12yr olds doing stuff they'd enjoy instead of sticking them with kids up to age 18. :( I mean for crying out loud- my daughter just turned 14 and she's STILL more in the "age group" (in all ways) as 12/13yr olds... so for sure just turned 13yr olds are not ready to be grouped with such older kids. :(

You could run up to Victoria, BC. They've got whale Watching & some cool museums, as well as gardens, tea at the Empress and good shopping.

no availability

everyone is coming up with great ideas, but unfortunately I'm not having much luck finding anything available

Happy Birthday Cruisin' Mike!

Happy Birthday mate

I'm so hoping that DCL will go once the Magic has been in drydock after our cruise. I've got everything crossed and then some for Alaska to be on the 2010 itinernary.:goodvibes Just think - people won't have to worry about excursions here - personal tour guide - cheap......:goodvibes.

I'd love it too, but I don't think this dry dock would be long enough to equip the ship for Alaska

I completely agree with this. You would be surprised at how young the kids are "doing things" these days. At the grade school I used to work at,the janitor frequently found used condoms on the stage(curtains always closed) and on the playground. This school was Pre K thru 6th at the time. Scary stuff!

Saw a 12yr old girl on the Maury show. She had a 5 month old baby and was testing a 13 yr old boy for paternity. He admitted they had been having sex for 2 years. Turns out he wasn't the father. :scared1:

hmmmmm, sounds like you're turning into a pirate also...

mucho wishes for a speedy recovery

Thanks fellow pirate! ;)

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Glad you are still laughing Coral!!! My face broke out too!!!:headache: Go figure:rolleyes1

We are talking it is gynormous!!! :scared1:

That's okay Coral,we still love ya! ;)

Thank you! I need all the love I can get! :)

Tomorrow will be a great day for you.:goodvibes And those earrings are gorgeous on you!!!!:thumbsup2
the zits unfortunately are making the rounds....woke up this morning with one on my face....not enough makeup to cover it up :scared1:

I have to say I have not had a pimple in a long time. Them suckers are nasty!
I do love :lovestruc my earrings though! Lot's of hard work went into saving the $ for them.

m&m's mom- can you please help me catch up... what happened for you to need stitches? ack!!!!!! I'm so behind on everything that has happened!

I had a tiny bump on the side of my nose that turned out to be basal cell cancer. Had to get it surgically removed on Monday which left a pretty big hole on the side of my nose. Plastic surgeon got creative on fixing and I look mighty pretty these days. :rotfl2:

You know I am so naive. I just cannot imagine that happening although here in Dallas they just caught a 12 year old dancing in a strip club. :sad1: Of course I am sure no parent oversight anywhere.

:wave2: Hi!
Actually, Long Beach is the closest airport to the port.... but SNA is the closest to Disneyland. It's not that bad a ride from LAX to Disneyland. We've rented a car and done it, and have also used Super Shuttle. If you want something more private, you can rent a private Super Shuttle or use ExecuCar.

Are you renting a car or using a shuttle? You will have to factor in rental or shuttle costs too. I think the rentals run about the same, but a shuttle from LAX will cost slightly more. There's a Disneyland Express from LAX but I don't have any experience with it.

SNA is definitely closer, only about 20 minutes away. It's a smaller and easier to get around airport.
LAX is 45 minutes on a good day, 70-90 minutes on a typical day. It's a higher capacity airport, therefore getting baggage and getting through security can sometimes take longer.

With all that being said, I'll fly into either. But I am from CA and am used to the traffic.

1) What is your favorite flavor of ICE CREAM or substitute favorite DESSERT

Twist Soft Serve

2) If you could have any car as your own "FREE" to use for a year - what would it be?

Is gas included? A stretched (limo) dark green Humvee with a inside window divider so I can throw the kids in the back and not hear the Miley Montana music.

3) If you could visit any one place on the planet for 7 days - what destination would you choose. All expenses paid however, you cannot take any physical souveneers back with you.

I'm in for an African safari

4-5-6) If you had Aladdin's lamp and 3 wishes... what would be your 3 wishes? The same limitations apply as in the Disney version - you can't raise the dead, you can't make someone love you, and you can't wish for more wishes.

Probably the typical good family health, Republican bank account and Democrat social life.

7) Tell us something about yourself that you've never posted here before.

I have driven in a demolition derby (real county fair redneck type)

If you're interested, you can actually drive to DL from LGB without ever getting on the freeway. Super easy and doesn't really add much time to the drive.

edited to add the blog link http://goofyonthehiseas.blogspot.com/

I love the Long Beach airport! It's so small, it's impossible to get lost....and the luggage comes out outside!

Sorry I've been MIA. Still catching up after company and having been sick. I am really hoping I can get caught up and stay that way starting next week. I feel like I'm missing everything!!

I do believe that some TA's require payment prior to the final DCL date. Mine uses the DCL dates though.

This is directly copied from my confirmation email

Final payments are due 90 days prior to arrival on May 19, 2008. Cancellation penalties start on that day.
