The meet looks FUN!! Keep sending the pictures, if I can't be there I want to live vicariously. ;)

What in the world did you aution off for that kind of money.:confused3

A small auction this year - only 370-some odd items. (down from 640 last year) They range from a week at a house in Jamica (with cook, maid, and pool boy) that will sleep 10. Also other sorts of trips - many parents donate a week at their vacation home (the ones that have them). We put together a trip to Disneyland this year too - tickets, hotel, the whole 9-yards. Dinners for 8-12 people in different cuisines (these sell really well). This year we had - Greek, Indian, Limoing around Napa, etc.

To the usual sorts of smaller items - hand made cards by the 5th grade, vet packages, there's a jeweler who alway donates some of their over stock, lots of wine, various services, a handmade book of poetry from the 10th grade. The teacher for the class of 2013 (7th grade this year) is a silk artist and her class always donates hand painted silk scarves or something. There was an amazing silk sarong this year that I wanted - but I didn't get it. :guilty: One of our parents is chief judge at the CA State Fair wine competition. He often donates two tickets to hang out, and slurp and spit with the judges.

There are sign up events - tamale making party with one of the Spanish teachers. And, of course, the event that kicks off the school year - the Rolling Gnomes party. (The Rolling Gnomes is a group of dads who formed a band. They're really quite good. They perform once a year - at this party.) That sort of stuff.

As I suspected - we didn't pull in as much this year, only $96K gross (not counting ticket sales). I think everyone is feeling a little pinched. But it was a really FUN night - and we all had a good time. The auction, and the Rolling Gnomes party, are the only real opportunities the parent body as a whole has the chance to get together and socialize.

:yay: :yay: :yay: GREAT PICTURES!!! I'm so glad you guys had fun and what looked to be a totally AWESOME day!!!

It's so amazing to go to one of these Mini-Meets and then have that feeling of having known everyone forever. I'm glad it worked out that way for all of you.

So I'm guessing that our Captain over-took the POC boat?? pirate:

OK guys, sorry about the posts earlier. I was posting from my iphone and getting sick while at it.

OK - here's the gossip from my point of view:

As you know - I got there late. Due to some tumbleweeds that were slowing down the traffice here in lovely, windy SoCal and the lovely 5 fwy. Actually arrived there on time - was in thru the turnstiles exactly at 5:18. I looked at my clock. Got to the BB at 5:30 - managed to say hi to everyone that was there. Must admit I was a bit nervous but was greeted so heartedly by everyone that I felt as if I came home after being gone for a while. It was crowded and we waited a few minutes to be seated but we ended up being seated on a main thorough walkway. We had 3 tables. One for the kids which we ended up sticking the big boys on kiddie duty and you know what? They were ALL FANTASTIC! I really want to say to the parents on here that you all are doing a fantastic job raising your kids. EVERY KID tonight was so respectful and curteous that I was sooo impressed. We are going to have a wonderful cruise!

Anyway, we had 3 tables - one for the kids and 2 adults tables. I managed to post that we had just ordered dinner. Darn! Why did I think of taking a picture of the menu? :headache: Anyway, it is a bit expensive - to me - I am not a red meat eater but the most expensive was Filet Mignon - $38 - I think - I think the prime rib was $34. DH had the Prime Rib and I had the pork chop about $29. I had the salad and dh had the gicken gumbo. The "salad" was actually a wedge of salad with bleu cheese on the side, pepperoni cubes and croutons. I had ranch but the other option was sherry vinegerette. So we had interesting conversation and Todd entertained us with magic tricks. I hate magic only because I know its not magic but for the life of me I can't figure it out. Drives me

Anyway, we almost bet Todd a mickey bar to throw a peanut - AKA a roll - to see if he could bonk anyone on the boat ride on the head. Hey - who said the adults had to behave? Anyway, after dinner, we order dessert - the cookie boat was $9. - :scared1: But it sure was good! :teeth: And thats saying a lot for me - I don't chocolate sauce or chocolate chip cookies -but Steve and I devoured ours. OH yeah! I ordered the pirate: punch which gave me the option of a flashing, blinking Hook or :tink:. Guess what I got?

So then after, we departed and decided to take a wee :boat: ride thru - what else? But POC! :rotfl: After all, can't have the Capt not visit his home away from home. So - here comes the Capt and his posse of 21 total. BTW, the boats hold a max of 22 people. We were short one - but then again as the Capt said - we are never short one! :lmao:

Oh and BTW, just so that anyone knows - DO NOT ENCOURAGE DH - STEVE - he needs no encouragement around you guys! :lmao: And mind your kids - he is a big kid himself. If the kids are acting up - look for the big kid that has riled them up. That be him!

OK so now - I have no worries - I hoped he would talk and I even caught Chris's dh - Paul and Steve talking so that is a good sign. I'm going to have fun.

Although SOME PEOPLE started in on the RUM and didn't tell others! Had I known - I'd of left 3 hrs early! :rotfl: RUM anyone? But where has all the rum gone? Anyway, dd is asleep and I have to download from pictures from the laptop so its takes a bit longer. But I will post some.

Oh Yeah, tomorrow 3/16 - the WBPC is holding a DL Breakfast meet and thanks to this group - DH is no longer fighting me on meeting people. So this one was a good one for us! I hope it goes as well as this one did. (Although I still think we are much more fun!) :ssst:

Ok - so here I go to post pictures.

Oh and I forgot to take some pictures although I am under threat not to post a certain picture - which I PERSONALLY WILL NOT POST - ;) but if it ends up here - can't help that! :rolleyes1

Bottom line folks - this cruise is going to be AWESOME - oh and yes - we did the rallying call - TAKE WHAT YOU CAN!

No diners answered the Capt's call but the rest of us sure did - I'm sure we got a couple of looks -
but who cares! We had some fun!!!!!!

Drat!

I missed a Great Pirate Party!

...avast, thar mates... the seas have been fair though in San Diego....

... except fer da incredible thunder we just had - must have cracked right overhead a half hour ago and woke us all up...

... da rain is only moderate with moments of intense down pour....

... but thats' clearly enough to prevent us from doing anything outside if it persists.

Aside from that it was a typically wonderful time yesterday with my BILs' family. (photos below)

So, I was trying to put together a posting this morning at 5AM... but I sort of fell asleep after the rain and thunder. It's now 10:20AM and we're just pulling out o the room. And we've got what appears to be blissfully beautiful weather (if not cool). So we may venture forth a bit - who knows. On the way home we plan on stopping at Disneyland (50-50?) - maybe we'll run into DIS meet stargglers?

Diane - I was 18 and on my way to basic before I stepped foot on a plane. My family has 6 kids and only one working parent so we too got a bit crafty with excursions. My dad would take us all out on Sunday to the local park or beach and we would spend some hours there. LOL - one Sunday - I remember we came back from the beach hours late - EVERYONE was starving and we had pancakes late at night - ok - it was about 7:30. Then off to the bath and then bed. I thought it was the perfect ending to the perfect day. No one really fighting - getting along as well as six kids can in a cooped up shell (who had RV's back then? :confused3 ) Anyway, come to find out years later - we stayed so long because my father got shorted on his paycheck that week and mom had NO food in the house except flour batter. She didn't know what to do until she came up with the idea of pancakes as a "special treat". We ate like horses that night and I don't know what happened that week but we certainly all ate. Things were rough and we never really "travelled" far but we did do something local every sunday so I have no idea where I came up with this "wander-lust" of mine. Years later as an adult - I tried to instill this practice with my DH - he did not want any part of it - so instead he introduced me to the finer things in life - little by little. BOY! Bet you he's sorry now! :lmao:

In response to wondering if we are spoiling our kids - yes - we probably are but I think that we've done the best we could. My kids have seen that my childhood was rough - their aunts and uncles have had problems. They also realize that they have had privileges that their cousins don't have and to this day, I have not seen them lord it over anyone - (probably cuz they know that I'd knocked them upsides the head - J/K ;) ) They will eventually realize but it will not become verbal until they are adults.

I have not heard it per say from the kids yet - oldest are soon to be 22 and 21 and while they haven't exactly said - wow - thanks for sacrificing mom and dad - they do always ask if we are taking a "family" vacation (on my birthday and anniversary of course! ;) :rotfl2: ) They complain bitterly but when they converse with other and tell them where they have been - they have said - wow - I guess I've done a lot of things. So far - they are all extremely jealous of the youngest as she has by far done more traveling then they have - and at a younger age.

In closing - yes - we may be spoiling them but don't think of them as spoiling - think of it as "expanding their minds - the Disney way!"
Their experiences and memories with the family will go a long way to producing happy memories and fulfilled adults. So yes - I do spoil my kids wholeheartedly - and how else are we going to get them off to college so that they can earn their OWN money for these vacations? if they don't experience - they don't know! :rotfl:

I can remember having Cheerios cereal for dinner, because there was nothing else in the house. Not that us kids minded, but I can't imagine how stressed my parents must've been.

I do have to say though, that my kids really do not talk about their vacations with their friends. In fact they've come home from school to say this one was going on & on about their trip to Disney World & I've asked, "Did you say anything about your trips to Disney World?" and they reply, "No Mom, that would be bragging!" Good answer! :thumbsup2

As for the college part, I always say the same thing to my kids. "If you really enjoy all these trips & plan on doing the same with your kids, you better go to college & get good jobs!" It's a great incentive! :goodvibes

J.R. Now I am jealous of you!!!!:goodvibes You deserve a great trip!!!

We always went on DH overtime money to go on vacation.:thumbsup2 I was 19 before I went on a plane and I paid for it!!!:sad2:

My children are 38 and 34 and yes.......they talk about all the great family vacations we had. :cool1: :cool1: Most were spent going to WDW but several other placees too!!! I look back on my childhood and all my parents did was save to retire!!!:rolleyes1 I am so glad we lived before we retire!!! :rolleyes1

Glad to know they still talk about their vacations! ITA about "living" before you retire. It's how I always get DH to agree to these vacations. I tell him all the time that the kids are growing so fast & why wait until we are too old to go out and enjoy these great trips!

I hope everyone is feeling better!!!:flower3: I think you needed a little rest too!!!

I think we all need to quit sharing our germs and use Perell (hand sanitizer) before we type.:rotfl2:

We've been lucky in the sick dept here, but I am definitely knocking on wood!

I was told by someone very wise......You never spoil a child.......they are just loved more!!!:flower3:  :flower3:

I like it!!!

Cheryl you would be proud of me. :thumbsup2 (and congrats on the tag fairy) I went shopping this afternoon and got everything at least 30% off with another 30% off from a coupon...so pretty good for someone who doesn't like to shop. Most of it was for the cruise. Had to get DH a suit (he doesn't like to dress up and his previous suit was too small). Then we got a new garment bag. I got some black dress shoes and a new swim suit.

Still anxiously waiting for pictures from the mini meet. I am really so jealous. It is finally a little warmer here, but it was so foggy this morning I couldn't even see the street from my front porch.

Hope everyong is getting over all the yuckiness that is going around. So far our family has fared pretty well. Knock on wood.

And I went for the interview on Wednesday and it looks like the job is mine. :cool1: They are going to have to work out the details. They didn't think they would find anyone internally and were expecting it to take 3-4 months so they don't have the job flushed out. For now I am going to work in that office part time and my current office part time. I think this will work best for all concerned. I can see if this is what I really want and they can see if I am what they are looking for. I just hate the drive. This office is a few miles further (25 vs 15 miles) from my home. I live between the 2 offices.

Congrats on the new job!!! :cool1:

Kevin and I are so jealous! Everybody is going to know everybody and we won't know anybody...waaaaa! :sad1: ;)

Ah well, we can't just pop over there either, it has to be planned, then the flights, the time, the cost, the school holidays etc, I am glad they are all enjoying themselves. Nice pictures.

My family will have a mini (mini) meet at Disneyland Paris in May, just us really so really mini, unless anyone fancies a trip over?
