Wanted to say hi and introduce ourselves as we'll be sailing with you all in August. We consist of myself, DH, DS (10), DD (8), DD (turning 4 on 9/1, debarkation day!) and DS (1). We have been booked since day one, and I can't believe this trip is almost here! We haven't even told the kids yet about the cruise...we'll be surprising them on Easter!

We'll be flying to LA on Aug. 12 and staying at the Grand Californian for 5 nights (gotta love those DVC points!). Haven't booked airfare home yet...still waiting for SW to open up their flights.

Looking forward to getting to know all of you in the coming months.

Kim
WELCOME WELCOME.

I know what you mean. I read about this cruise a couple of weeks before it was open for booking. I had not been on a DCL cruise before and have always wanted to go on a Panama Canal cruise. I emailed my whole family but the timing just did not work for anyone other than us and my parents.
When we decided to book I went over to the Meets board and sure enough there was already a thread going. I posted some before 1/31 but it was already up to a couple hundred posts 2 weeks before booking. :scared1:

Since folks are reminescing (misspelled horribly - I kno)... about those days around original booking - I must confess to being seriously intimidated by the intensity of posting too. I simply tossed on a few postings and COULD NOT keep up for the life of me. I do recall having tried to catch up in reading from the BEGINNING at one ppoint when things slowed t=down - but that didn't last beyond the first few thousand postings I think. Then the thread took off a little and I realized it was IMPOSSIBLE.

So - I try to follow as best i can. When I miss a few days or a week I'm almost certain to miss a few days - if not a week or so of postings. These past few weeks since december were a mixed bag with all that's been happening - with the sicknesses circulating, visitors and lite travel. Alas, I think it's mostly been being sick at one point that messed up my keeping up with things here.

And on another point - I noticed a number of remarks on the pricing here. Don't tell the DCL execs but I felt it was a square deal to get a PC transit for a price that was comparable to 2 seven day voyages WITH ports of interest to me. We had sailed a few Eastern rotations consecuatively (another misspelling) and I was getting weary of repeating those again. Even though one of those easterns was a "special" with san Juan that got modified by Hurricane Francis into an impromptu 4 nite western. With the only nice thing of that being we got a nice combination of credits, discount on future sailing, refund and upgrade to a veranda. The net effect of which was akin to sailing for free because of Francis. Alas, it really wasn't free.

So - we are quite excited to sail on this voyage - it's a square deal of sorts and offers a lot of appeal as a new port rotation - and we somehow managed to get a number of family members and local friends to join us! So that alone marks this as an especially memorable trip to be.

Anyways - as for the day yesterday - it was a nice afternoon of skiing for the kids - as the slopes were very lite with slow spring skiing conditions. As such, it only ran us the cost of renting equipment since the kids were free and alicia had that ski free coupon from buying the 8 vitamin water bottles. I would count today as a "perfect day" to have spent doing something unusual as a playdate with one of Julianna's class mates. Tomorrow/today we trade playdates with her girlfriend hosting a day at the beach as her Dad rented a house down there. Then in the evening we've got Easter services to attend to round out the day. Tomorrow we head on ou for Disneyland to escort our pre-school teacher into the park as she upgrades the pass generously given by Todd. Friday we were gonna go too (that's yesterday) however, I messed up and found we were blacked out. That's how we ended up skiing impromptu yesterday.

OK... enuf of all that...

Hey thanks! And true to my word, I did finish up the main body of my thesis & sent it along to the professor. I told him I would have the conclusion to him by Monday sometime so I am under the gun. Which is a good thing!

After I worked on my paper I went to the mall with the fam, ate at the food court & bought us all Easter outfits since we will be having dinner out Sunday.

Now I am relaxing with a well deserved glass of wine if I do say so myself! :goodvibes

Kudos to you, Diane!! :thumbsup2

g'mornin' pirate:s

Baseball practices today. I love Little League. So cute!
I need to go for a bike ride, get my car washed, finish shopping for Easter dinner, take the kids swimming, dye eggs, clean the house.

OK, now I think I'll just crawl back under the covers....

I agree that we should make room but the car hassles, parking and those hawkers in front of the church! :scared1: Makes me want to pull a Jesus in the Temple so its best I stay away at these times. But she's not having any part of it. She was aiming to have me go on Friday but I said last week and this Sunday is good for me. (Gosh - I'm going to burn in heck for this aren't I?)

The Catholic rest of my family went to church last night. I went to the gym. I'm Protestant, I would have felt more guilty if I skipped the gym!
I go every Sunday, but I usually skip the rest.

DH actually fasts on Good Friday and boy was he grumpy last night!

Nope - don't apologize - she is a very good grandma - so I keep telling myself but she is allergic to strong women! :lmao: You - I just plain like you! Your fun! :thumbsup2

My MIL has the same thing going on. It's 'cute' that I got a masters degree, but she doesn't understand why I wouldn't be happy with some part time job at the kid's school, like she had. And all decisions are deferred to DH.

FWIW my theory is that she missed an entire generation (or 2!) of the women's movement. She's not ancient (60), so she should get it. But she had boys, so she missed the whole 1970's-80's, encourage your daughter to be what she wants to be thing. My IL are from the first wave of baby boomers (as are my folks), but think much more like their parents generation. Interesting.

When I was younger I prefered tarts!!!!:lovestruc

In clear heels?

Well funny you should ask M! I was going to hold of mentioning this till I really was complete, but I've worked on it diligently for the last 2 days. I actually contacted a professor who agreed to be my "reader" which means he'll grade it etc. & he is waiting for it as we speak. I plan on giving the kids lunch & then getting to it. I will most likely send everything but the conclusion since that is still a work in progress, but I am adding a little bit here & there before I send the intro & body.

The other day I went to the local Community College I attended to have my transcripts sent to the University so I can apply for graduation next week. I have until April 1st! I work great under pressure!

Probably much more than you wanted to know, but I'm so proud of myself this week!

Diane that is wonderful news!!!:goodvibes

Thanks for the insight! I can't believe there was a meet thread for the cruise before you had even booked it. Did it start before or after the cruise was officially announced?

I remember booking the cruise in January 2007 and logging on to the DIS that day and was amazed at how full the meet thread already was. Unfortunately, it frightened me and I stayed away for about a year, but am glad to be back.

Glad, you got over your fear and joined us:thumbsup2

PS

We have had sleet this morning, very old, and snow forecast for 7am Sunday through the morning!!!

:santa: :santa: :santa: :santa: :santa: :santa: :santa:

Someone just canceled a Cabin Cat 8 gty on our cruise, thread on main forum.

Now HAIL here!!!!

And I will definitely save a seat for ya! I told my DH that some of us were going to keep watch for stingrays so he says we should call ourselves the Raywatch girls!
:lmao: I love that:lmao: Can I be a Raywatch girl too:confused3

Well, I had to laugh at this - because bottom line - she does have a knack for doing this to me - . But being the good, catholic, obedient (:lmao: :rotfl2: ) DIL - I just keep mum - (her day is coming!) but you - I like you! :thumbsup2 And your much prettier than she is - so I'll substitute you for my MIL if that's ok with you! ;)

OMG, I've got the same deal going with my MiL:headache: She knows she can get away with a lot because, in her words no less, I'm too polite to say anything:rolleyes:
I really want to be close because we love the same people, but every time I let my guard down she says something to remind me that I'm not really a member of her family:sad2:
My folks go to extremes sometimes to make sure that my DH feels part of the family. Sometimes I want to tell them not to bother cause my DH doesn't appreciate it, but I want my kids to see how it should be:confused3 My folks were a bit annoyed at the way I was treated by his parents. If they knew it all they would be furious. They are still very protective of their kids (even though most of us are middle-aged now:rolleyes: ) Anyway, your comments struck a chord with me. Glad to know I'm not alone with the MiL issues:goodvibes

My visit to the dermatologist was fast. In and out and biopsied and everything:confused3
Dr decided to biopsy a new mole that I had near my ear. Awkward place cause I can't really see it. They told me that if I didn't hear from them in 2 weeks that everything was ok. Well, had a bad deja vu feeling from that. A friend of my Mom's died because someone forgot to call her about her abnormal mamogram:sad2: One of the reasons I tend toward paranoia:confused3 I'm calling in 2 weeks if I don't hear anything sooner.

The biopsy site is healing fast and the dr gave me some acne med that is working well too so I'm a happy camper for the most part. I didn't get a chance to ask about a chemical peel or the photo therapy treatments they had available. Does anyone have experience with these ?

Funny, I recently ran out of the expensive facial moisturizer that the woman at Red Door had talked me into buying. Sure enough, my acne started clearing up:rolleyes: I'm sticking to my regular stuff from here on in.

We are starting our Easter celebrations today. This afternoon we are going to my MIL's. She has an Easter egg hunt for the kids every year....and it's a good one! She doesn't bother with any stinkin' jelly beans. No. She puts CASH in each egg! Go kids, go!

Then we will take her out to dinner and to the Smucker's on Ice show, starring Sasha Cohen! I am very lucky to have an awesome MIL. She is the BEST!

Tomorrow we will get up to find our baskets from the bunny, go to Mass, and then celebrate with dinner at my parents.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

HAPPY EASTER!!!!

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: I was going to object when you put down my Easter favorite (jelly beans), but I do agree, cash beats jelly beans:thumbsup2
Besides you can buy a lot of jelly beans with the cash;)

My MiL isn't my enemy (My mantra when I get discouraged). I do get a bit jealous of those (like you) with comfortable relationships with their MiL, though. Have fun:goodvibes

I did get a good buy on the Olympus 770 on Amazon. $250:woohoo:
I didn't get the color I wanted, but I'm happy that I waited to get the lower price.

ok way back on page 166 here - be back in a while! Missed chat tonight so have to ketchup here.

You were missed in chat! :goodvibes

I was in the chat room, but I was MIA for most of it. I got a long phone call from my sister & as I told some of the folks, I ate a lobster roll at the mall food court & I wasn't feeling too well! Remind to NEVER get a lobster roll at a food court again! What was I thinking? :sad2:

:lmao: I love that:lmao: Can I be a Raywatch girl too:confused3

Absolutely! The more raywatch girls the better! Can never be too careful with those flying rays. Right Cheryl? :goodvibes

Sorry to hear about all the MIL stories. I was lucky that my DMIL adored me. My DH was her little baby, but I guess she thought I was good enough for him. She was good to me & great to my kids, but unfortunately she passed away. DFIL was another story, he was just nasty to everyone. Doesn't matter now I guess since DH & I are both orphans now.
