When I did my first Panama crossing cruise it was with Princess cruises, we did Cartagena on the Carribean side, but we also had another port on the Pacific side in Costa Rica.
I was thinking about it today so google maped i and looked up and down the cost and found it, it was:-
PUERTO CALDERA COSTA RICA
Its a pity that DCL didnt break up the sea days and early start out of Acapulco with a stop at this port.
Maybe drop one of the other Mexician ports stay longer in Acapulco and call at this port.
Whilst the Port was rather industrial, there was a considerable amount of good quality shore trips from there.
We went into the rain forest, (and it did rain) in a nature reserve, and it was so lush, and we saw many native animals.
But there was also:_

Would have been a nice place to call.
